CHAPTER TWENTY NINE
INDIGO'S POV
“Girl, there you are! I've been looking all over for you.” I squealed as I sighted Winter sitting by the empty staircase. “Oh…what's wrong?” I asked with concern as I got closer to her, tears filled her eyes and I could only wonder what was wrong.
“Nothing…nothing at all. I'm fine.” She quickly said, wiping back the tears rolling down her face.
Her scent was particularly strong today, I could get almost everything, she was deeply hurt.
“You can really talk to me,” I placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You're always there for me when I need you, now I want to be here for you.”
She turned her face to me but swiftly looked away. “You won't get it.”
She stood and walked away towards the bathroom stalls and I followed closely behind her.
“How wouldn't I get it?” She turned on the sink's faucet and splashed water on her face, her eyes big and puffy. “I could try Winter, please –”
“Stop it! Just stop it! You think you're all that don't you?” She blurted out with anger, her hands quickly flew to her mouth as though realizing what she had just said. “I'm sorry Indie, it's really hard for me to say but I promise one day you'll know.”
I hugged her back, wrapping my hands against her frail body. It made me realize I didn't know that much about her after all.
We mostly just talked about school or the Alpha's or how things were with me. If I was a bit more considerate, I might have known what the problem was.
“I'm sorry too,” I slumped my head on my shoulder feeling ashamed.
“Sorry for what?” She muttered through sniffs.
“I should have been more considerate but it turns out I've only been such a suckish friend to you,” I pulled back slightly to look at her, tears welling up in those big light blues. “You're one of the best things Shadowbrooke academy's given me and I've sucked at taking better care of it.”
“This isn't your fault you know.” She giggled.
“It is,” I held both her hands. “From now on everyday will be about you.
She flicked my forehead playfully, “But I love listening to your life and stories you have to tell. It's the best part of my day. And you're also one of the best things Shadowbrooke’s given me.”
After a while, Winter has gained back her composure. Her once pale face had turned a bit pinkish here and there and I couldn't help giggling.
“So, tell me all the gossip.” She beamed.
“I'm getting way better with my powers now, the other day I formed a whole wolf. I'm more than sure that if those damn shadows show up they'd better prepare themselves for a fight!”
“Really?”
“Yeah, it's weird because I feel so much more powerful than I ever have before. I feel something beating within me, something I can't explain.”
“Woah…that Ancient Prophecy you told me about, you think it has anything to do with that?”
“I can't say for sure, well you know until the Goddess herself comes down and tells me herself.”
“Wouldn't that be something?” She laughed.
We continued chatting as we strolled to our next class, but just then I bumped into someone and her books fell to the ground.
“Ah–I’m really sorry about that.” I bent over immediately not looking at who it was to gather up their books.
“Maya?” I heard Winter call out, I lifted up my head and my eyes fell over a pretty odd looking girl.
Odd wasn't the right word, she was absolutely striking. She had sharp orangey hazel eyes, considerable long light bright hair, a perfect face, she was model like.
“It's been ages since I've seen you around the Academy,” Winter said as I stood with the girl's books wanting to give it back to her.
“I've been quite busy back at home, today is my first day back to school after a long while.” Her voice was soothing and metallic. She glared at me as I handed over her books, a cold glare that made me shiver in a way. “Thank you.”
“This is my friend, Indigo,” Winter gestured to me. “She's new to Shadowbrooke, and Indie, this is Maya, my long time friend. She's quite influential in this school.”
Maya's cold glare didn't break from me, it felt like I was getting sucked in and losing breath. Uncomfortable was an understanding not to talk of the ominous aura I got around her.
“Pleased to meet you.” She said with a small smile, stretching out her hand. I knew the smile was fake, they didn't reach her eyes.
“Yeah…” I responded trying my best to hide my discomfort as I took her hand. “Nice to meet you I guess.”
“I'll see you around Winter.” She finally said and continued forward.
“Isn't she lovely?” Winter asked with a smile. My forehead twisted with lines of worry, I really didn't have a good feeling about her.
“Who is she?”
“One of the members of the Sanctum’s child. She's pretty much a loner, she appears and vanishes and just reappears like nothing’s happened often.”
“Is that so?”
“Pretty much, you don't like her?” She leaned in to see my expression.
“Uh…we better leave before we miss our class.” We walked on as I tried to shake the bad feeling I got at the back of my neck. It was a tingling sensation I was familiar with, it felt exactly like when those shadow things attacked us.
“Oh yeah, I wanted to mention something to you as well. It's pretty odd though.”
“What is it?” My curiosity was piqued.
“It's the full moon soon, and a certain someone has three mates. It's obvious they care deeply about you if they haven't tried making any advances.”
She was right, around full moons or even before wolf mates were in full breathing and bedding was almost a necessity. The fact neither of them had mentioned it truly showed how much they were holding back because of me.
What would I do? I couldn't even form the image of bedding the three of them. What would I do? I–I liked all of them so much.
Suddenly tears rolled down my eyes, my feelings, this mate bond fogged and messed everything up.
I didn't know what to do.
