Chapter 24
Chapter 24
TWENTY FOUR
AUTHOR'S POV
The question still lingered in Indigo's mind, weaving through her thoughts and tugging her toward something she couldn’t escape.
As she looked at the three Alphas standing beside her, she realized that if she was going to face the future, they all needed to be on the same page.
She thought long and hard about the matter of the prophecy and she finally admitted that it wasn't too far-fetched. Too many things were just too accurate and she needed to know what Lyriq and Valtor might think.
Taking a deep breath, she finally spoke. “There’s… something I’ve been meaning to ask you all. Something about an ancient prophecy.”
The words hung heavy in the air, silencing even the gentle night breeze around them. Valtor and Lyriq exchanged curious, almost wary glances.
“What prophecy?” Valtor asked, crossing his arms. His gaze was as sharp as ever, but a spark of curiosity softened his otherwise stern expression.
Beside him, Lyriq arched an eyebrow, his usual cold demeanor giving way to genuine intrigue. “Something you haven’t told us, Indigo?”
Gage nodded subtly, as if urging her forward. He knew parts of it but had left it to Indigo to share.
Indigo swallowed, her fingers nervously twisting a strand of hair. “I didn’t mention it earlier because… honestly, I wasn’t sure it was even real. I didn’t want to believe it.” She glanced at Gage, whose gentle expression gave her courage. “But I think it’s time you both knew.”
She looked back at Valtor and Lyriq, who had both moved closer, intent on every word she was about to say. “There’s an old prophecy… a legend, really. It speaks of a female wolf who’s destined to mate and join all three packs and rule as one–Together.… a rule of glory.”
Lyriq’s face went rigid, and a flash of something fierce flickered in his eyes. “One ruler?” His tone was skeptical, almost challenging. “And… you think that’s us?”
Indigo hesitated. “I don’t know. It’s just… it seems strange that I’d end up with three Alpha mates. And now, with all the attacks happening… it feels like there’s more to this than just some coincidence.”
Valtor scoffed lightly, though there was no mocking in his eyes. “So let me get this straight. You think the Moon Goddess herself has set this up? For us to be bound together… under you?”
Indigo opened her mouth to reply, but Gage stepped in, his voice calm but serious. “It’s more than just a legend, Valtor. There are records, old texts that go back centuries, which speak of a time when all the packs would be united under a single Alpha leader.”
Valtor’s skeptical expression shifted slightly as he processed Gage’s words. “And you believe it?”
Gage nodded, his eyes steady. “There are too many signs. Too many things align.” He looked over at Indigo, and a softness entered his gaze. “It’s something we can’t ignore. Not anymore.”
Lyriq’s expression remained unreadable, but his eyes were calculating, like he was weighing each word. “So if this is true… What does that mean for us? For the packs? Talking about the packs, aren't there four?”
“You don't see Kymir here, do you?” Gage asked and the question lingered heavily.
“I was mates with him before he rejected me.” Indigo blurted out and this took even Gage by surprise. “It still said three Alphas in the prophecy with or without Kymir.” She defended.
Indigo bit her lip, casting a glance toward the night sky. “I’m not entirely sure. The prophecy is vague, but it speaks of glory… and strength. Maybe it means peace, a way to end the bloodshed between the packs. Or maybe…” She hesitated, feeling the weight of her words. “Maybe it means war. If there are forces out there who want to stop this, who see us as a threat…”
The silence grew thick, and a tense energy crackled between them. Valtor took a step forward, his expression serious. “And what exactly are we supposed to do about this, then?”
Gage’s gaze flickered to Indigo, then back to the others. “We need to prepare. Train harder. There’s something—or someone—out there who doesn’t want this prophecy fulfilled. The shadow attacks were just the beginning.”
Lyriq’s jaw clenched, and he shifted his stance, arms crossed tightly over his chest. “If the prophecy is real… and if they’re targeting Indigo because of it… then she needs more than just training. She needs full protection, round-the-clock.”
Valtor nodded, his usual smirk replaced by a look of cold determination. “Agreed. We’re not dealing with ordinary threats anymore.”
Indigo took a deep breath, her mind racing. “I can’t expect you all to take this on just because of some old legend. I’m not even sure I believe it fully myself.”
Valtor scoffed, but this time there was a hint of softness. “Believe it or not, Indigo, we’re in this together now. You’re stuck with us.” His smirk returned, though his eyes were serious. “Prophecy or not, no one’s getting to you without going through us.”
Lyriq’s lips quirked in a rare smile. “Well, at least this bond has some perks,” he muttered, glancing at Gage. “I never thought I’d say this, but… working together isn’t the worst thing. As long as we keep her safe, that’s all that matters.”
Gage stepped forward, placing a reassuring hand on Indigo’s shoulder. “You’re not alone in this. Whether you like it or not, we’re all in this together.”
Indigo’s heart swelled at their words. She looked at each of them in turn, feeling the strange, undeniable connection she shared with them. Despite their differences, despite the chaos and uncertainty, she felt… stronger with them by her side.
It couldn't be all that bad.
Finally, she nodded, her voice firm. “Then let’s face whatever comes. Together.”
“You must be tired after all of your training. You should head in first, Indie.” Gage insisted and the other concurred.
“You think so?” She asked to confirm and they all agreed.
“Thank you all for everything today. I'll see you in school tomorrow.” With that she left, leaving the three Alphas still sensing the need to speak alone.
