69. MASON
I loved our traditional dresses on my mate. Seeing her in them made me want to go out and buy her a few more. Although Angel hadn’t complained once about wearing them, I knew that she was much more comfortable dressed in pants and a T-shirt.
Now that she officially belonged to us, I didn’t have to worry about overwhelming her whenever I brought her gifts. The original plan was to buy her stuff and hide it and then slowly gift it to her while we were courting her.
And then Lucas came and ruined all my carefully planned plans.
I grinned, not feeling all that mad at him anymore.
Lucas should be glad that he hadn’t fucked things up for us when he marked her without discussing it with her beforehand. She was the one good thing that has happened to us in a very long time.
Angel’s hand on my arm tightened the closer we got to the throne room.
I glanced down at her. “Okay?”
She looked at me and then stopped.
My heart dropped to my stomach when I saw the look on her face. She could back out of getting married, but our marks branded her skin, marking her as ours.
“What’s wrong?” I asked her. “Did you change your mind?”
Angel shook her head.
She reached up with a shaky hand.
Gripping her hips, I bent my knees slightly to make it easier for her to reach. She pressed her cold palm against my cheek and gave me a smile.
“Don’t look so worried,” she said softly. “I haven’t changed my mind.”
“It will be okay if you have,” I told her. “You already belong to us. Getting married to Lucas is just a formality.”
“I just thought of something.”
“What?”
She licked her lips, eyes darting over my face. “On earth, humans are not permitted to marry more than one person. I was wondering if it’s the same here?”
I frowned at her.
“It doesn’t seem fair that I’m only getting married to Lucas when I’m mated to the three of you.”
The frown cleared as understanding dawned. Pressing my hand to hers, I pulled it away from my face and pressed a kiss to the ring on her finger.
It was the first time seeing it which assured me that he hadn’t given Arabella’s old ring to her.
“You want to wear three rings?” I asked her.
“I will.”
“That won’t be very comfortable.”
A strange emotion filled her eyes. “Aren’t you jealous of Lucas?”
I took the time to carefully think over her question. There were times when we were young that the emotion ruled me. I was jealous of my big brother because it felt like he was loved a lot more than me. He got more than us, especially attention when he agreed to take over the Kingdom after Nate refused. But I had learned that despite that, Lucas didn’t turn into a selfish prick like most people I knew.
“I used to be,” I told her honestly. “But that was when I was younger. I’m not jealous that Lucas is King or that he’s the one who gets to marry you.”
“I wish there was a way for me to get married to all of you,” Angel said softly.
I smiled as I gripped her hips and jerked her body against mine. “You’re the queen, love. I’m sure that you can do anything you want.”
“May I point out that I’m not queen yet, and I don’t think that I have the right to make that kind of change.”
My lips parted, the words on the tip of my tongue, but I changed my mind and smiled at her instead. Pressing a kiss to her forehead, I gripped her hand and guided it to the crook of my arm as I started leading the way to the throne room.
Everybody was probably waiting for us already. I knew that Lucas was eager to give Angel our last name.
I glanced down at her as we walked and tried but failed to hide my smile. Angel was thinking about what I said, I could almost see the gears turning in her head.
Our people were going to love her.
She was going to be much better than Arabella.
Pausing in front of the door, I looked down at her. “Are you ready?”
Angel sucked in a deep breath and slowly blew it out. “Let’s do this.”
I opened the door, my smile widening as I took it all in.
Lucas had gone all out even if it was supposed to be just a small ceremony.
The red carpet had been laid out with rose petals on either side of it. Lucas had even moved the chairs to the side so there was space for the wedding officiant and them at the very front of the room. A table with various plates of food was placed to the side, also decorated with flowers and sparkly material.
The wedding officiant was already there with Lucas by his side, dressed in his formal wear. Next to him stood Nate, also dressed to perfection.
Debora stood to their left, looking slightly uncomfortable.
I placed my hand on Angel’s and squeezed as we moved towards them.
Lucas turned and I watched the emotion play over his face as he stared at her.
It hit me then how different his relationship was with Arabella. He never looked at her the way he was looking at Angel. Their relationship had been nothing but a formal transaction. I had thought that when Lucas and Arabella announced her pregnancy their feelings had grown for each other, but I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Thinking about pregnancy…an image of Angel swollen with our child flashed through my mind. I couldn’t wait for that day to come.
Reaching Lucas, I took Angel’s hand and placed it in his before I moved to the side to stand next to Debora. Lucas pressed a kiss to her knuckles and together they turned to face the wedding officiant.
“It is an honor to be here today to join King Lucas and future Queen Angel in royal matrimony.”
I tuned him out as he continued talking. My mind slipped back into the little fantasy I had created when Angel was pregnant with our babies. We were going to spoil her a lot and our kids.
Will they look more like her?
There was a big possibility that they would be shifters like us, but I wouldn’t mind if they were human like their mother. They would be loved either way.
“I now pronounce you husband and wife,” the officiant said, snapping me back to reality. “You may kiss your wife.”
Wrapping an arm around her waist, Lucas dipped her before he claimed her mouth. She giggled but it died down as the kiss deepened.
Nate cleared his throat, making my eyes snap up to his. Our eyes locked and held for a few seconds. We were both thinking the same, but we didn’t voice it.
I smirked. “Now that business has been taken care of, can we eat?” I asked. “I’m starving.”
Breaking the kiss, Lucas gave me a playful dare, but he wrapped an arm around her waist and led her over to the table.
I should have known our mother wouldn’t allow us a day of happiness after finding our mate.
The doors were thrown open and three guards entered the room with the four council members behind them and behind the council member were none other than our mother.
