Chapter 41 The Elder’s auspice
"Rever, you eventually made it, ” intonated Elder Corvin, his voice gravelly yet oddly warm as he saluted Rever in a shadowed alcove deep within the ancient gravestone chamber. “ Sit down, son. We’ve important to bandy before the night’s gone. ”
“ Thank you, Elder, ” Rever replied, his tone heavy with prostration and a tincture of apprehension. “ I was n’t sure I’d find you then. I — I need to know what these signs mean, what fate is tryin’ to tell me. ”
Elder Corvin’s eyes, deep as night wells, flitted with a uncommunicative light as he sluggishly settled onto a worn rustic bench. “ You’ve seen the foreshadowings, have n’t you? The vaticination that speaks of a wolf born under a accursed moon, one who shall herald both destruction and the chance for concinnity. And, if fate be kind, that stopgap may rest on a future that lies with youthful Sharon. ”
Rever’s brow furrowed as he leaned forward. “ Sharon? I allowed that vaticination was about me, or my own family’s ruin. How can it be tied to her, the bone I’ve tried so hard to cover? ”
The Elder’s voice softened, yet carried an unyielding graveness. “ hear, Rever, the vaticination is like an old song with numerous verses. It does n't speak of one single fortune, but of integrated fates. The wolf born under a accursed moon — the bone who bears the weight of woeful heritage — may well be you, but the pledge of concinnity, the stopgap for a new dawn, might be set up in the heritage of another soul. Sharon carries that implicit, whether you see it or not. ”
“ Are you sayin’ that my pain, my loss might lead to a future where Sharon’s light can mend our broken pack? ” Rever asked, his voice pulsing between unbelief and hopeless stopgap.
Elder Corvin jounced sluggishly. “ Aye, that’s exactly it. The vaticination tells us that from great anguish, indeed from the darkest curse, a spark of concinnity can be burned . It speaks not only of ruin but also of the mending that follows. You, Rever, are a deliverer of grief, yes — but you're also a keeper of the honey that might unite us all. And in Sharon, I see the possibility of renewal. ”
Rever’s hands gripped tightly as he plodded with the enormity of the words. “ But how can this be? My own family was torn piecemeal by treason and blood. I’ve lived with that loss every single day, and I I’m not sure I've the strength to forgive, much lower to make something new. How is it that Sharon’s future can be the key when every shadow of my once riots of despair? ”
The Elder leaned closer, his tone intimate and laden with a quiet wisdom. “ occasionally, the fiercest storms yield the richest crops. Your family’s woeful end, as painful as it was, has set a foundation for change. The curse of the moon, the dark auspice it has marked you and may have doomed you to walk a lonely path. But it has also opened the door to possibilities that others would noway dare dream of. In the interplay of darkness and light, you must see that the burden you carry might also be the catalyst for the deliverance of our pack. ”
Rever exhaled sprucely, his voice low and reflective. “ I flash back every agonizin’ moment the riots, the fire, the treason. It’s like I’m visited by my own recollections every time I close my eyes. And now I hear talk of this accursed moon and this wolf vaticination, and I ca n’t help but wonder if my suffering was all for nothin’. If all I’m fated for is further heartbreak and ruin. ”
“ Not so, ” Elder Corvin combated forcefully, “ for the ancient words say that indeed in the darkest hour, a single light can guide a misplaced soul home. The vaticination may have been forged in the fires of despair, but its ultimate communication is one of stopgap — a stopgap that stands on the point of concinnity, a stopgap that might veritably well rest in the hands of one who has been wronged, yet still believes in the possibility of redemption. ”
Rever’s eyes, dark with inner fermentation, searched the Elder’s face as if looking for some sign of consolation. “ And what of Sharon, Elder? You speak of her as if she’s formerly a part of this vaticination. How can I trust that her future holds the concinnity you promise, when all I’ve seen is pain and treason? ”
The Elder’s voice grew gentle, nearly tender. “ Sharon has her own scars, her own battles fought in silence. But within her, there lies a strength that you’ve only begun to see — a spark of adaptability that defies the atrocity of her history. The foreshadowings speak of a duality, where the burdens of bone can come the stopgap of another. In her retired heritage, in the fractions of forgotten lineage that bruit through her dreams, lies the pledge of renewal. maybe it's her fortune to rise above the abuse, to reclaim a part of herself that was stolen, and in doing so, come the lamp of concinnity our pack so desperately needs. ”
Rever’s voice faltered as he admitted, “ I’ve been so consumed by my own grief, my own guilt, that I’ve slightly had the strength to see beyond my own pain. I’ve seen Sharon suffer, and I’ve wanted to shield her from it all. But if what you say is true, also perhaps in her reclaiming her identity, she can also help mend the broken pieces of our future. ”
Elder Corvin gave a slow, measured nod. “ It's a heavy burden, but it's also an occasion. The vaticination of the accursed moon does n't mandate doom — it offers a choice. You may continue to dwell in despair, letting the ghosts of the once mandate your every step. Or you may choose to see the possibility of redemption, to believe that indeed from the ashes of anguish, a new morning can be forged. ”
Rever looked down at his calloused hands, the weight of his recollections pressing down on him. “ I wish I could see it that way, Elder. I wish I could cast away the recollections of fire and blood and embrace a future where stopgap still lingers. But every time I close my eyes, the faces of my family hang me, and I feel like I’m drowning in the veritably grief that formerly consumed me. ”
The Elder’s tone was both fostering and compassionate as he replied, “ also let those recollections not be your chains, but your assignments. Flash back the pain not as a burden, but as a memorial of what must noway be again. The curse of the moon, the auspice of the wolf — they are n't just labels of destruction, but also of the adaptability that arises from suffering. In you, Rever, there's the implicit to guide not only your own fortune but that of the entire pack. ”
A long silence fell as Rever milled over the Elder’s words, his inner conflict laid bare in the quiet of the ancient chamber. Eventually, with a measured breath, he said, “ So, you’re sayin’ that my fortune is n’t sealed in gravestone? That despite all the ruin and treason, I can still find a way to lead us toward something better? ”
“ Yes, ” Elder Corvin replied vocally, “ the vaticination speaks of a path that winds through darkness and despair, only to crop into the light of concinnity and stopgap. It's over to you, and to the one whose future you hold dear, to decide which path to walk. Do n't let the accursed moon cast its shadow over your heart. rather, let its darkness make the light you seek shine all the brighter. ”
Rever’s voice grew steadier as determination began to inflame within him. “ I’ve spent so long trying to forget, to bury the recollections of that accursed night. But maybe it’s time I faced them, not as chains to bind me, but as assignments to guide me.However, also perhaps there’s a chance for redemption, If my pain can be converted into a lamp for our pack. ”
The Elder smiled noiselessly, his eyes twinkling with a blend of pride and anguish. “ That's the spirit, Rever. Embrace your history, learn from it, and let it forge a future that honors the offerings made by those you loved. And flash back , in the shade of fortune, every thread — no matter how dark — has its place in the grand design. ”
Rever bowed his head slightly, absorbing the weight of the Elder’s words. “ I understand, Elder. I'll not let my anguish be in vain. I’ll fight for a future where the pain of history gives way to the stopgap of hereafter where Sharon, and all of us, can find concinnity in the midst of chaos. ”
“ Go forth with courage, Rever, ” Elder Corvin intonated, his voice echoing in the stillness. “ Let the auspice of the accursed moon be not a herald of despair, but a clarion call to rise above the darkness. Your trip will be long and fraught with pitfall, but the path of concinnity is worth every step. ”
Rever’s eyes shone with a admixture of determination and newfound resoluteness as he rose from the bench. “ I’ll flash back your words, Elder. And I’ll make sure that the heritage of our history, as painful as it is, becomes the foundation for a unborn erected on stopgap. For myself, for Sharon, and for the entire pack. ”
“ May the old spirits guide you, ” Elder Corvin muttered as Rever stepped down, his heart lighter yet burdened with the knowledge of the challenges ahead. “ And may the auspice of the accursed moon lead you not to destruction, but to the concinnity that we so desperately need. ”
