Chapter 10 I'm Cursed
Rever
Sharon was sitting on the steps leading up to the front door when I returned to Fania's house two and a half hours later, Ina rickety old carriage I had gotten from one of the members of the higher council, it wasn't only old and rickety, the horses were also old and almost lame, it was far from ideal, but it was the best I could find. We would have to make do until we got to the next town where I could exchange it for a better one, or commandeer anyone I could find.
She had her raggedy old cloak wrapped around her shoulders, and even before I brought the carriage to a stop I could tell she had been crying.
No more. I silently promised her.
This is the last time that btch or anyone else will make you cry, the next person who tries will have me to answer though.
I didn't get a chance to say any of that out loud though, no sooner had I brought the carriage to a halt than the door flew open and Vienna came running out, nearly tripping over her dress.
" Mikel." She purred breathlessly, neatly side-stepping Sharon like she wasn't even there to come and stand beside him.
" Mikel." She purred again, placing one hand on my arm and the other on her chest as her full breasts puffed up and down with more force than was necessary to steady her breathing.
This one's quite the vixen. I thought to myself. Her mother has certainly schooled her well.
" You're several minutes late." She continued, neither of her hands moving from its position.
" My apologies milady," I said, giving her a slight bow. " I had a few errands to run for his grace," I add.
" I hope the merchandise is ready?" I ask.
" Of course." She replies, waving her hand in the general direction of the doorway. " She's all set."
" Good," I murmured approvingly.
" Get her then and we'll take her leave," I added
I had to hide my smile as her carefully made-up face fell in disappointment.
" Aren't you going to stay a while, mother and I have dinner going." She said sweetly.
I would rather have raw viper on the side of the street than sit at a table and eat Fania and her spawn, of course I didn't tell her that.
" Thank you for your kind hospitality milady," I said instead.
" But I'm afraid I'm going to have to decline, I've overstayed my time here as it is. His grace eagerly awaits my arrival." I added it for good measure.( I couldn't wait to tell Lasmay all about this, he would probably choke on his laughter)
" Alright then." She said, quickly regaining her composure. " Be sure to pay a visit next time you come to these parts."
" I wouldn't miss it for anything," I assured her.
Hell no, I won't, because I'll be coming to give you and your mother her comeuppance.
With that she reached up and gave me a sloppy kiss on the kiss, it was all I could do not to go looking for water and soap with which I could scrub my face.
" I'll get Sharon." She said over her shoulder as she left.
It was all I could not to go after her and give her a good knock on that dandy head of hers when she gave Sharon a swift kick on the shin before pointing her towards me and the carriage.
Sharon slowly got up and made her way to where I stood with the carriage, fear and confusion in her eyes. When I held out my hand to her, she recoiled sharply, a cornered animal look in her eyes.
I'll come back for whoever did this to you. I silently assured her.
And make them pay for it, they'll beg for death. I added, all to myself, of course, I didn't want to scare her more than she was already scared by blurting that out.
" Please trust me," I said instead, speaking in the softest voice I could come up with. " I'm not going to hurt you," I added, speaking as I would speak to a skittish horse.
When she finally put her hand in mine, it was trembling so much I nearly lost it and went back to confront that btch that called herself Fania and her daughter.
Only Sharon's softly murmured mumble of thanks stopped me, smiling at her. I got into the seat behind her and spurred the horse into a gallop.
" What does the alpha want with me?" Sharon asked in a voice that was so quiet I had to strain to hear it.
" You'll find out when we get to the castle," I replied.
" But be assured that no harm will come to you. I assured her.
" How can you be so sure of that?" She asked. " You're not the alpha." She added.
As a matter of fact I am. Fool that I am, I didn't tell her though.
"I'm the alpha's most trusted courtier." I said instead. " Trust me when I say he won't hurt you."
This seemed to be enough to satisfy her for she took a deep breath and sat quietly clutching the small bag in her hands with one hand and holding her cloak around her shoulders with the other hand, quietly looking around as we rode away from the village she had spent all her life in.
Her next words however threw me for a loop though.
" It doesn't matter either way." She said after a particularly heavy sigh.
" I deserve all the hurt he could possibly think of and more." She added.
" What do you mean?" I asked, slacking my hold on the horses to spare her a glance.
" I'm cursed." She replied.
" I committed a heinous crime in my past life, that's why the goddess condemned me to suffer in this life."
