Chapter 94: It’s Over With Him
"Joanna still looks young. Does she have a boyfriend?"
Joanna's face instantly turned red as she honestly explained, "I got married three years ago. I'm currently going through divorce proceedings with my ex-husband."
"Divorced?" Pippa was somewhat surprised. "Why would you get divorced at such a young age..."
Joanna wasn't sure if it was just her imagination, but after hearing this answer, Pippa's expression seemed complicated, and her attitude became colder.
Perhaps she was a bit disappointed and didn't want Angelo to get involved with a divorced woman anymore.
Joanna smiled awkwardly and made an excuse to get up and leave.
What she didn't know was that after she left, Pippa held Angelo's hand and confirmed over and over: "Do you really like her? You don't mind that she's been divorced?"
Angelo thought Pippa didn't support this relationship and was ready to persuade her, but just as he was about to speak, Pippa glared at him.
"When a woman is young and gets deceived, choosing the wrong person isn't really a problem. If you truly like her, you absolutely cannot mind Joanna's relationship history. Her choosing to leave her ex-husband also took a lot of courage. I won't stop your relationship with Joanna, but you need to think clearly about whether you really mind or not. You can't bring it up to criticize and attack Joanna after you're married, understand?"
Angelo smiled in surprise: "I understand, Mom. I don't mind at all. If I hadn't hesitated three years ago, her ex-husband wouldn't have had a chance."
However, the most important reason was that the Jones family put too much pressure on Joanna at the time and used dirty tactics, allowing Chris to have Joanna without doing anything.
Hearing this, Pippa looked at Angelo with even more disdain.
Angelo raised his hand to touch his nose, smiled helplessly, and took out his phone to message Joanna.
[You don't need to worry too much about my mother's attitude. She means no harm, she just feels bad for you.]
When Joanna saw the message, she had just parked her car. She replied briefly: [Don't worry Angelo, I can understand Mrs. Smith.]
If it were her, and her excellent son wanted to marry a divorced woman, she might not be able to control her expression either.
Angelo didn't reply right away, probably still busy.
Joanna didn't mind. After returning to her apartment, she first incorporated the feedback about the dresses she'd learned today into her draft, then refined the design details.
The Smiths had a very warm atmosphere, so the design elements leaned toward warm colors with some floral patterns.
The overall design was almost finalized. Looking at the time, it was almost midnight.
Worried about affecting her work, Joanna didn't continue.
After a few more busy days at the hospital, Joanna used her after-work time to finish the dresses and went to find a sample garment tailor she was fairly familiar with.
Before the divorce, when she made her own clothes, she would use this sample garment studio's tailor.
Yvonne was quite surprised not to have received orders from Joanna in a long time: "Didn't you used to love making clothes for your husband? Why haven't you contacted me lately?"
Joanna briefly explained: "We got divorced. These three outfits are very important to me, so I'm counting on you to personally oversee them."
Yvonne nodded: "Don't worry, we've worked together several times. So you and your husband divorced. I was wondering why he had his assistant contact me about orders. But Joanna, I think there's something you might need to know."
Her expression suddenly became serious.
Joanna was somewhat surprised and followed her into the fitting room for measurements.
Once the door closed, Yvonne said: "Your husband... no, your ex-husband's order is for wedding attire. I originally thought it was just something fun between you two, but now it seems he may have betrayed your relationship."
Joanna pressed her lips together, her eyes showing some disappointment.
Before, at home, she handled everything, including ordering clothes or formal wear.
Even for Nicole's birthday, Chris never cared about these things.
But this time, he probably really liked Cynthia, which was why he kept making exceptions.
Not only accompanying her to choose a wedding dress, but also personally overseeing the wedding attire order.
Joanna felt an indescribable bitterness in her heart.
It wasn't that she cared about Chris, but the more she looked at it, the more foolish her past self seemed, having suffered so much yet still willingly giving.
Thinking of this, Joanna shook her head bitterly: "He's getting married to someone he likes. I know about this. After all, he's your client, just treat him normally. Things between him and me are over."
Yvonne looked worried: "Is it really over? But Joanna, you don't look very well. I think you might still like him?"
"No! I don't like him anymore." Joanna firmly refuted. "I just realized that it's not that he didn't have time and patience to fulfill his duties as a husband. He just felt I wasn't worthy and didn't want to waste his energy on me."
This realization was cruel, but it was indeed the truth.
Yvonne didn't know how to comfort her.
Fortunately, Joanna recovered on her own, forcing a smile: "It's okay, just a wrong person and a wrong relationship. I've moved on. Yvonne, I'm counting on you to make those three outfits for me. The timeline is a bit tight - can I pick them up in five days?"
"Yes, I'll prioritize your clothes."
Yvonne only relaxed after confirming Joanna really wasn't upset.
After collecting the deposit, she walked Joanna to the door.
They happened to run into Cynthia and Chris at the entrance.
The two walked in arm in arm, followed by Cynthia's assistant from when she was design director, clearly there to discuss details of the wedding attire.
Yvonne felt awkward and wanted to find an excuse to quickly see Joanna off.
But Cynthia spoke up first: "What is Miss Jones doing here? You didn't find out that Chris and I are having our wedding attire made here and then bribe the sample tailor to sabotage us, did you?"
Joanna glanced at her with a cold look: "I don't have that much free time to keep tabs on what you're doing. Yvonne and I knew each other first. The Coopers have been having me contact her for clothes all these years. If you don't trust me, go find someone you and Chris trust yourselves."
Cynthia was scared by her tone and stepped back two paces, hiding behind Chris with a tearful voice.
"Chris, I was just asking Miss Jones. I didn't mean any harm. How can she think of me like that? You're the one who's used to Yvonne's work, so that's why I felt comfortable having them make our wedding attire. I didn't expect Yvonne and Miss Jones to have such a good relationship. They won't really tamper with our clothes, will they?"
