Chapter 65 Cynthia Is Pregnant

Chapter 65 Cynthia Is Pregnant

Cynthia's words were full of provocation.

Joanna felt bitter inside. In three years of marriage, she and Chris had sex quite a lot, but they never had children.

She used to feel regretful about it, but now she felt relieved.

If she and Chris had a child together, the divorce would be even harder, and she wouldn't be able to choose between the child and her freedom.

Joanna took a deep breath, calmed herself down, and replied: [Go ahead and try to take him if you can.]

She had already made it clear that she didn't care about Chris anymore and had always wanted a divorce.

It was Chris who kept pestering her, refusing to believe she no longer wanted this relationship.

If Cynthia was willing to fight for him, maybe it would even help her get divorced sooner.

"Ms. Jones, I want to ask about my father's leg..."

Just then, a family member of a patient she was newly in charge of called out to Joanna. She turned off her phone and stopped worrying about Cynthia and Chris.

But she didn't expect to see Chris at the nursing home when she got off work that evening.

He seemed to have come specifically to visit Sandra today, bringing supplements with him. He stood by the bed, polite and gentle, until he saw Joanna coming over, and his eyes showed a hint of arrogance.

Joanna put down her things and asked Sandra: "Chris came to visit you. You must be very happy today, Mom? Now you don't have to worry about our relationship being bad. You can focus on getting better, right?"

Sandra smiled: "Of course I'm happy to see you two getting along. If you came in one day holding my little grandson, I wouldn't even mind if my illness couldn't be cured."

Hearing this, Joanna immediately glared at her: "Don't talk nonsense! You still need treatment. You haven't seen me... haven't seen Chad get married yet."

After a few more words and getting Sandra to sleep, Joanna signaled Chris to go outside to talk.

She didn't believe Chris suddenly had a kind heart and came to visit Sandra.

He must have something to say this time.

"Why did you leave last time? I was just taking Cynthia home. Are you jealous even about that?" Chris reached out to pull Joanna, but she shook him off.

Joanna said coldly: "Given our relationship where we're about to divorce, even if you slept with her, I'd just take a photo as a souvenir and leave."

Hearing this, Chris felt uncomfortable inside, like being pricked by needles.

He looked at Joanna's cold expression and asked: "What unforgivable crime have I committed? Joanna, I've been very patient with your temper. You don't really want a divorce, do you?"

"Even at this point, you still think I'm joking?" Joanna asked back.

Chris couldn't say a word.

Because from his initial certainty, he was indeed gradually becoming uncertain.

Joanna seemed to leave more decisively each time. She didn't even smile when she saw him anymore, only showing coldness and impatience.

Before, if he didn't come home for a night, Joanna would keep the lights on and wait, then hug him before going to rest.

But now, Joanna would just clean up any traces of her return, leaving that cold villa to him and leaving without mercy.

Chris didn't understand what was happening.

He pressed his lips together: "Grandpa is getting old, and Mom wants to hold a grandchild. She wants us to try harder and have a baby soon."

Joanna frowned. Didn't Cynthia say Chris already knew about her pregnancy?

Why was he still asking her to have a baby?

"Go find Cynthia. She'd be very willing!"

Chris scolded disapprovingly: "Why are you bringing her up? Cynthia has nothing to do with this. Don't blame your own anger on her. I admit I might not have cared about you enough before, but are you without fault? You stayed home all day doing nothing, just revolving around me. Every time I didn't come home for a day, it was like the sky was falling for you. You have no ability and always cause me trouble. None of those business partners I asked you to maintain wanted to be friends with you..."

His scolding was like a rusty knife, slowly cutting the flesh of Joanna's heart.

Her nose stung, and she interrupted directly: "Wasn't it you who forced me not to work when we just got married? Chris, it's not that I have no ability. Those people didn't want to be friends because they could see you didn't value me! You can't blame everything on me every time. I didn't do anything wrong!"

"So it's my fault that people don't like you?" Chris frowned.

He was already holding back his anger, not wanting to argue with Joanna here. "Forget it, let's say we both made mistakes in the past. As long as you behave from now on and we have a child, things will get better."

Chris reached out to pull Joanna, but Joanna firmly stepped back.

She leaned against the wall, her eyes clear: "It won't get better. Having a child will only make things worse."

At this moment, Joanna was absolutely firm and certain.

"Our divorce is just a matter of time, Chris. If you agree to divorce early, I won't interfere with anything you do. It'll be easier for both you and me. I hope you think it through."

Her gaze was honest and showed seriousness.

This made Chris feel again that things were slipping out of his control. He uncomfortably tugged at his tie and said in a low voice: "I agree to divorce, and then you turn around and find another man? Joanna, don't even think about it! Will you only settle down if that man disappears?"

Joanna asked warily: "What do you want to do to Angelo?"

But the next moment, she remembered that Angelo had the Smith Group behind him.

That was an even more powerful entity than Cooper Corporation. Even if Chris wanted to do something, he couldn't hurt Angelo.

"I'm not that low! He's the one who destroyed our relationship. I can have a lawyer sue him and cause him some trouble."

Seeing Joanna's protectiveness of Angelo, Chris said impatiently.

Joanna calmly pulled out Cynthia's medical report from her phone to show Chris. "Then I can also sue Cynthia. She's the one who destroyed our marriage. The evidence I have is more solid than your verbal accusations!"

Chris froze, staring at the report for a long time without looking away.

His phone rang at this moment. It was Nicole's voice filled with joy:

"Chris! Really, why did you hide your relationship with Cynthia from us? Alright, come home quickly. Cynthia's health is more important now. Give that Joanna some money and get rid of her. Don't let her affect Cynthia's mood."

Chris asked stiffly: "Mom, what do you mean?"

Nicole sounded disapproving but proud: "You silly boy, Cynthia is pregnant! This is the Coopers' first grandchild. Your grandpa is so happy he wants to give the child shares."

Silence spread. Chris had no idea how the call ended.

Seeing Joanna's mocking eyes again, he actually felt a desire to escape.

How could this happen? Cynthia was pregnant!

That day he clearly watched Cynthia take the morning-after pill...
