Chapter 45 Joanna Cheats
Angelo felt somewhat relieved, but worried about her current physical condition. "You're still having recurring fevers. I'm afraid you won't be able to finish the work before the submission deadline."
Registration for the Blue Ocean Design Contest would close in one more day.
But Joanna lowered her head to contact Linda, while saying to Angelo, "Mrs. Stone is the organizer. I just need her to help me get two more days."
Three days were enough for her!
Angelo frowned, still not quite agreeing.
But Joanna had already made up her mind. After Linda's approval, she immediately picked up her computer to review the draft Cynthia had emailed.
She carefully recalled her thoughts at the time. Because she was out of practice, she kept hesitating to start. Occasionally, she'd pick up her pen and scribble a few strokes, only to quickly crumple them up and toss them in the trash.
Angelo could tell her mind was scattered, so he didn't dare disturb her and temporarily stayed in the guest room.
During the creative process, distraction was the biggest taboo. So Joanna completely ignored Chris, who kept calling her.
Because of the plagiarism incident blowing up, Cooper Corporation had already held several emergency meetings.
Chris once again hoped Joanna would come forward and say she had carelessly messed up the work and deliberately swapped Cynthia's piece, which led to this misunderstanding. But he couldn't reach Joanna at all!
Chris was so anxious that he directly contacted Henry. "What's wrong with your daughter? She came to the villa to apologize, but wouldn't back down, and keeps avoiding me. Now, after causing huge trouble for the company, she's ghosting me! If you still want that investment, hurry up and contact her, make her admit the work got mixed up because of her jealousy and mistake!"
When Henry received the call, he thought the investment had come through and was grinning from ear to ear. But after hearing Chris's accusations, he didn't even process it and just said, "Isn't Joanna pregnant? How could she be throwing a tantrum at a time like this?"
Chris felt something in his head snap into a straight line, leaving him unable to think.
Preg... pregnant!
His first instinct was happiness. If Joanna were pregnant, she wouldn't throw tantrums from insecurity anymore. She would return to the villa and be an obedient, well-behaved wife!
But soon, he realized something was wrong.
For a long time recently, he hadn't been intimate with Joanna. If Joanna was really pregnant, how could it only be discovered now?
Unless that child wasn't his...
Chris's expression instantly turned dark. "When did she get pregnant?"
Henry still hadn't caught on. "Wasn't it that time she was drugged and went to the hotel? She showed me the pregnancy test a couple days ago, can't be wrong."
Chris couldn't kid himself anymore.
Joanna was pregnant, but the child wasn't his!
Besides Angelo, who frequently appeared around Joanna, he couldn't think of anyone else!
Had they already progressed to this point?
Thinking of Joanna writhing seductively under Angelo, Chris angrily smashed his phone.
He stubbornly called Joanna again, but still no one answered.
What were they doing? Were they in bed together right now? Had they...
Countless dark thoughts made Chris increasingly unable to control himself. His chest hurt too, but he understood it more as the anger of being betrayed.
The commotion in the office brought Matthew to check. "Mr. Cooper, are you alright?"
Chris said through gritted teeth, "Go find out where Joanna is living now!"
Seeing his twisted expression, Matthew didn't dare stay long and immediately went to investigate.
Before long, an address was sent to Chris's phone. And he directly grabbed his car keys and left the company.
Joanna, focused on her creative work, didn't know yet that Chris had come looking for her.
She had just found some inspiration from the draft, her phone on silent, completely undisturbed. Only during mealtimes would Angelo forcibly make her stop to replenish her energy. Other than that, the two had no other interaction; both were very respectful of each other's work time.
When Chris pounded on the door with his fist, Joanna had already entered a state of complete absorption.
So it was Angelo who answered the door.
Seeing that Angelo was indeed living with Joanna, Chris angrily threw a punch directly at him.
Angelo wouldn't just stand there. He grabbed his fist and asked coldly, "Why are you here?"
Chris's eyes were slightly bloodshot. Unwilling to give up, he raised his foot to kick him.
Angelo was afraid the noise would be too loud and disturb Joanna, so he dragged Chris toward the stairwell. He warned, "Joanna has something very important right now. You can't disturb her. Whatever it is can wait until she's done!"
Chris sneered and enlarged the photo of the pregnancy test. "Very important? More important than you sleeping with her, right? I never thought Joanna would be so cheap, accepting any man who comes along, and even getting knocked up! You homewrecker, how do you have the nerve to appear in front of me!"
When he saw the pregnancy test, Angelo was stunned for a moment, but he quickly pulled himself together.
He rolled his eyes. "How do you know this is Joanna's test result? Chris, it's one thing to be played by Cynthia at the company, but now you've lost your mind, too?"
Chris, scolded by him, angrily tried to hit him.
Angelo fought back directly. After struggling and grappling for a while, he pinned Chris down.
Chris kept yelling, "I already had the house staff search her room—this is hers! I even found her pharmacy receipt. What more proof do you need? Or are you just the kind of guy who'll sleep with someone and then deny it?"
If he didn't know the truth, Angelo would almost believe Joanna had a child with him.
Unfortunately, he knew very clearly that nothing had happened between the two of them. They hadn't even taken that step in their relationship yet!
"You've really lost it! Don't think too low of Joanna!"
Chris growled with red eyes, "If I remember correctly, this is Joanna's apartment. You're already living together with her, what's there not to admit!"
Angelo couldn't be bothered to argue anymore and shoved him away. "Before you come here demanding answers, maybe you should actually figure out what's going on. Who told you about the pregnancy test, and what's their angle?"
Chris had already decided on the conclusion and insisted, "No need to investigate! Right now, Joanna is the one who cheated! I don't accept that divorce agreement. She must come back and apologize and abort the child, otherwise I'll sue her and make her leave with nothing!"
After saying this, Chris left.
But Angelo fell into deep thought.
Regarding the divorce, he had originally thought it was a done deal. He didn't expect that a pregnancy test would make Chris go back on his word.
Should he tell Joanna about this?
