Chapter 187 Perfuctory Care

Chapter 187 Perfuctory Care

When she heard about Suss, Linda immediately understood why Joanna had taken the initiative to call her.

She fell silent for a moment, her tone becoming somewhat heavy, "Joanna, you know that Suss's health hasn't been good. I heard he even hosted an academic conference recently. I don't know why he's still pushing himself so hard at his age. I think, like me, he doesn't resent you for suddenly giving up medicine back then. In our hearts, you've always been our most outstanding student."

As her teacher, Linda understood Joanna's concerns very well.

Her student was good in every way, except that sometimes she was too sensitive, always worried about causing trouble or bad feelings for others.

When it came to dealing with people, Joanna was a bit too cautious.

Finally, Linda sighed and advised her, "Don't overthink it. Go see him. At least don't leave any regrets in his limited time."

Hearing Linda's words, Joanna nodded, "I understand, teacher. I won't disturb your rest then. When I go to Valeria in a few days, I'll come visit you."

Linda knew that Joanna had agreed to meet. She smiled and quickly hung up the phone.

Joanna was indeed convinced by Linda's words. Whether it was Suss or Linda, both teachers were getting old. If she missed the chance to spend time with them because of momentary hesitation, she would never forgive herself.

Especially since Mr. Suss's health wasn't good now. Perhaps seeing her one more time had become Mr. Suss's obsession, and she shouldn't refuse.

Joanna quickly checked flight tickets on her phone and confirmed her travel dates.

After doing all this, she pulled up a phone number she knew by heart, spent a long time preparing herself mentally, and then sent a message.

[Teacher, I'll be going to Valeria in five days. I'd like to visit you then.]

There was no reply for a long time, but Joanna didn't mind.

The next morning, she saw a reply sent in the early hours, just two simple words.

[Okay.]

Having resolved this matter that had been weighing on her mind, Joanna felt much more relaxed.

She continued to throw herself into the busy work at the hospital.

Meanwhile, David's surgery was completely finished. At the cost of amputation and brain nerve damage, David had now become completely paralyzed with brain damage.

Chris couldn't understand why it had turned out this way, but he could only accept the surgical results.

Nicole didn't want to take care of David. She hired several caregivers, but they were all scared away.

The Cooper family had been in chaos these past few days, which gave Cynthia an opportunity. She brought her parents to visit frequently and cause trouble.

Learning that David was sick, Cynthia knew her chance to turn things around had come.

"You mean you're willing to take care of David?" Nicole's eyes were full of doubt.

Facing her skepticism, Cynthia steeled herself and nodded.

To continue her alliance with the Cooper family, she had to endure it!

As long as she got the chance to move in, wouldn't she have opportunities to explain things to Chris?

As long as Chris stopped misunderstanding her, with her methods, she would definitely make Chris's heart return to her!

"Then you can take care of him."

With someone willing to take over, Nicole couldn't ask for more and didn't ask many questions.

She had the servants explain the details while she herself breathed a sigh of relief and left.

Cynthia stayed behind, delighted. She didn't pay attention to the precautions the servants were explaining to her at all. Her mind was full of thoughts about how to get Chris's attention.

Seeing her absent-minded appearance, the servants guessed that she hadn't come to the Cooper family to take care of David.

But the servants couldn't say much about it and just shook their heads helplessly.

Cynthia was thinking too simply.

She thought taking care of David would let her get close to Chris, but completely forgot that Chris rarely came home. Most of the time, he stayed at his outside apartment or Hillside Villa.

So, after Cynthia worked hard taking care of David for half a month, she hadn't seen Chris even once.

She was almost unable to bear it anymore.

Taking care of an old person was already difficult, let alone one who was paralyzed and had an amputation!

During this time, Cynthia had suffered all the hardships she'd never experienced in her life. Every day she looked haggard and disheveled, almost going crazy.

After hearing that Joanna and Angelo were engaged, her jealous and resentful gaze became almost tangible.

Taking advantage of the fact that David couldn't speak clearly after his paralysis and couldn't complain to Nicole, Cynthia took out all her anger on David.

She would either skip his meals or not wash his face and hands, causing David to become much more unkempt.

"Ms. Cynthia, Mr. David usually loves being clean. If you do this... he probably won't be comfortable. Why don't you wash him?"

When the servants saw this, they kindly reminded Cynthia, but were scolded by her instead.

"I'm already being charitable by taking care of Mr. David. If you're really that picky, do it yourselves!"

Cynthia rolled her eyes, not caring about the servants' reminders.

The servants had no choice but to report the matter to Nicole.

But Nicole had finally gotten rid of David and didn't want to take this mess back.

Besides, she was already stressed enough every day about Chris's marriage.

So in the end, no one cared about David.

Chris was usually very busy, so naturally he didn't know that his grandfather was being abused.

Cynthia vented all her resentment on David, either beating or verbally abusing him every day.

"Eat! Can't you eat by yourself? Do you have to be fed!"

"Can you stop smelling so bad? You're making me sick!"

"Weren't you so capable? Why don't your grandson and daughter-in-law care about you? Go ahead and call them back! Useless thing!"

The servants could hear Cynthia's harsh treatment of David almost every day.

But after reminding her several times without getting good feedback, they could only stay silent in the end.

Everyone's work attitude became somewhat passive.

Chris had no idea that Cynthia had already become so arrogant in front of David.

He had recently caught an opportunity for a project. If he did well, his chances of promotion were high.

At least it would be a project manager position.

Once promoted, he would have more power.

The day Sandra went abroad, Joanna and Angelo went to the airport together to see her off.

Victor had arranged a private plane in advance.

In the airport lounge, Joanna hugged her mother one last time and raised her hand to wipe away the tears that welled up from reluctance.

"The situation abroad is special. If you have language problems, remember to keep your phone with you. Technology is very advanced now, and there are many translation apps. If you really encounter problems you can't solve, remember to find Victor."

"I'm not a child anymore, I know." Sandra nodded, touched Joanna's head, and said with a smile, "I wonder if the next time I come back, I'll be able to see my Joanna as a bride."
