Chapter 103 Marry Him
Joanna panicked a bit and quickly said to Peter, "Could you please make a trip to the police station for me and find out if Henry has given any clues about other people? If they really are the ones who manipulated Chad, then they're probably planning to pin all the blame on Jones Corp and Henry, and then run away!"
Peter also realized how serious this was and agreed, "Leave it to me, don't worry. I'll talk to the police - they might have even more leads than we do."
Joanna nodded. With things settled, her anxious and worried heart finally calmed down a bit.
She waited for the operating room light to go off, and also waited for news from the police and Lyle.
What came first was even worse news.
Because Chad had taken the compensation money, the victims' families had surrounded Jones Corp.
The employees were now panicking and couldn't leave work normally.
Joanna's face looked terrible. "First contact security to disperse the crowd, try to calm down these victims' families, and I'll figure out another solution!"
She needed money.
But the hospital's recent earnings, after buying the car, weren't enough to cover all the compensation.
Should she borrow from Angelo again?
Joanna felt awkward about asking.
But the situation was urgent - she didn't have time to hesitate.
So Joanna still called Angelo.
"Peter already told me. Don't be scared. I've already sent over the security company under Smith Group. Those victims' families were probably stirred up by someone. Right now the most important thing is to find Chad and get back the compensation money."
Surprisingly, Angelo didn't ask anything and directly put Joanna's mind at ease.
She pressed her lips together and explained, "My mom is in surgery, it'll be a while before it's done. I'm sorry, I'm causing trouble for Angelo again."
Angelo deliberately used a light tone, "Compared to being trouble, I'm more afraid that one day you won't need me anymore and we'll lose touch."
Joanna was startled, "I owe you so much - how could I not stay in touch with you?"
Angelo smiled and after a few jokes, quickly hung up.
Thanks to Angelo's help, Joanna's heart settled down and she wasn't so anxious anymore.
Lyle's side didn't send any more bad news either.
Not until the surgery ended and Joanna followed Dr. Bruce to take Sandra back to her room.
Dr. Bruce explained as they walked, "Although we didn't achieve the expected treatment results, overall it was still successful. I'll discuss improving the surgical plan with other doctors later. In the next few days, Miss Jones, please make sure the patient doesn't eat spicy food and doesn't have too much contact with outside information, to avoid stimulating the brain nerves and causing complications."
Joanna agreed.
After seeing off the medical staff, she went to get water to wipe Sandra's sweat so she could sleep more comfortably.
After finishing everything, Joanna called the previous caregiver to schedule her work period.
Originally she thought she could take care of Sandra herself, but what happened at the company meant she had to leave to deal with it.
She couldn't rely on Angelo to help with everything.
The caregiver would come the next morning, so Joanna had to stay overnight tonight.
She didn't sleep very well - in her dreams there were victims' families crying and demanding justice.
And scenes of Henry being executed by firing squad.
When she woke up startled, she was covered in cold sweat.
Joanna washed her face and simply decided not to sleep.
She went to tidy up the small workspace set up in the hospital room, putting away the half-finished design work and cleaning up.
At eight in the morning, the caregiver arrived. She explained all the important points clearly and specifically reminded her, "Don't let her look at news on her phone, and try not to let her hear our phone calls either."
The caregiver said she understood.
Joanna left the nursing home and drove to the company first.
Last night almost no one slept well, so Lyle gave everyone the day off to rest at home, handling urgent work online.
This was also to prevent those victims' families from causing trouble again.
When Joanna arrived, she saw garbage thrown outside and red banners accusing Jones Corp of murder.
The cleaners were still tidying up, and Lyle had dark circles under his eyes.
Joanna put the coffee she brought for him on the desk and said apologetically, "Thank you for your hard work. When this is over, I'll give you a bonus."
Lyle raised his eyebrows and happily accepted the reward.
"By the way, let me update you on the company situation. Those victims' families have calmed down. The police also sent people to understand the situation. A lawyer who said he's your friend has been communicating with the police the whole time. They may have discovered new leads and are already blocking Chad's movements throughout the city."
Joanna nodded, "I know, Peter is very capable. He's good at almost every area of litigation. If you need help in the future, you can contact him too."
She planned to sign Peter as Jones Corp's legal advisor, so she wouldn't feel awkward about asking Peter for help in the future.
After all, they'd worked together quite a few times already.
Lyle nodded, "There's nothing much today. If you're tired, why don't you go home and rest?"
Joanna refused, "I'm fine. You worked hard yesterday, go home and rest first. I'll wait for news from the police."
Lyle didn't insist.
After all, he really was tired.
Joanna took a nap alone in the company break room. When Peter and Angelo came over together, they were both careful not to disturb her.
It wasn't until the smell of food woke her up that Joanna rubbed her nose, "Sorry, I fell asleep."
Peter said with a smile as he took out the food, "It's okay, such a big thing happened yesterday, you must be tired too. By the way, how did your mother's surgery go?"
Joanna relayed Dr. Bruce's assessment honestly.
Although not particularly successful, at least it reduced the cancer risk a bit, so the result wasn't bad.
"That's good. Mr. Smith and I came over today because we were worried you might have difficulties but feel awkward telling us. The compensation money and Chad's location can both be tracked. This afternoon, the police should be able to catch him. Don't worry," Peter said.
Joanna nodded, "Thank you both so much. Otherwise I really wouldn't know what to do."
Peter winked and handed Joanna water, "Why so polite? Aren't we friends? Right, Mr. Smith?"
Angelo glanced at him and corrected, "I'm Joanna's pursuer. It's only right that I put in a little more effort."
That one sentence almost made Joanna spit out the water she'd just drunk.
She explained awkwardly, "No, I - I owe Angelo so much already. If Angelo runs into trouble, I'll repay him too!"
Peter said with a smile, "Why wait to repay him? His parents pressuring him to get married is trouble too, isn't it? Why not just get married and save a single guy from being alone?"
