Chapter 215 Why Haven't You Gone Home Yet?
Matilda stared at Scarlett, completely bewildered.
This girl... whatever, it was all because Wentworth was too outstanding and too many people liked him, so quite a few girls looked at her with disapproval, as if everything she did was wrong.
Scarlett continued, "Don't think that just because Mr. Gonzaga has a high-ranking position, you don't need to work. Men can't possibly always like housewives. Besides, you don't even have kids yet - staying cooped up at home all day will ruin you."
Matilda had to say, "Thanks for your concern. I just found a job and I'm starting the day after tomorrow."
Scarlett was stunned for a moment, then said, "Right, you're right to look for work. Are you going to be a cosmetics sales associate or sell clothes? Can you give us the address? We'll come support your business."
Matilda looked at Scarlett speechlessly. Why could she only be a cosmetics sales associate?
"I studied medicine. I'm planning to work at a hospital."
Scarlett fell silent.
If there was competition between professions, then a doctor seemed to rank a bit higher than an elementary school piano teacher.
And she only got her teaching job through her uncle's connections.
Scarlett looked at Matilda resentfully, “Doctors are always busy, aren’t they? If you become a doctor, who will take care of the home?”
The other women had long since had enough. First, Scarlett had looked down on housewives, and now that someone talked about working, she was suddenly concerned about who would take care of the home.
Rose said, "Scar, your standards are really high. You’re a woman too. Do you really think a woman should work, run the household, and raise the kids all by herself?”Aren't your expectations a bit too high?"
Scarlett pointed at Matilda, "But Mr. Gonzaga is so outstanding, she should be able to do everything perfectly, right?"
Phoebe also said, "But Mr. Gonzaga doesn't manage to be a good soldier while also doing housework and taking care of kids, does he? People's energy is limited - you can only focus on one thing. If you try to do both, you'll be stressed about both."
After being criticized, Scarlett had no comeback and just tossed her head and left.
Rose said, "That Scar, I think she's got her eye on Mr. Gonzaga. She's been circling around him before, and now she's coming after Matty."
"Exactly. That day when Mr. Gonzaga came back from outside and she saw him, the way she called out to him was so flirty."
...
After Matilda started work, only Charles and Zoey were left at home.
In the morning, Charles waited on the sofa for Zoey to wake up.
Zoey walked to the dining table, saw two bowls of noodles on it, and reflexively said, "Matilda made noodles this early?"
Charles looked at her gloomily, "Is it possible that I made them? Your Matilda already left for work."
Zoey fell silent.
Right, Matilda had told her about this last night, but she forgot after sleeping.
She looked at the bowl of noodles Charles had made, with a misshapen fried egg piled on top.
She was really hungry - her belly was already five months along, and she got hungry really fast, so she sat down at the table to eat.
But as soon as she got a forkful of noodles down, she couldn't help but spit it out.
This is awful.
How could anyone make noodles taste this bad?
Seeing Zoey spit it out, Charles was puzzled for a moment, then tasted it himself.
He used to be really picky about food, with very high standards - it had to look, smell, and taste perfect before he could eat it. But after cooking for Zoey a few times these past days, all those problems had disappeared.
This bowl of noodles that made Zoey throw up, he actually thought was edible, because he had made it.
"If you think it's good, then you eat it all yourself. I'm going out to buy something," Zoey said.
Charles ate a few more bites - no good, these noodles could only be eaten for two bites at most, one more and he'd throw up too.
So he had to follow her out.
Walking outside the residential area, they ran into quite a few family members coming back from buying groceries.
Charles felt a bit embarrassed. He suggested again, "Zoey, look, we're not really from this compound. Now that Matty's gone to work, it's not really appropriate for us to be living in their place. How about we find a good time to go back? Otherwise people will talk behind our backs, thinking our family went bankrupt and we came to depend on Wentworth."
Zoey had actually thought about this problem too. This was a military compound after all, not an ordinary residential area. Entry and exit were strictly controlled. Every time she went out and saw the guards at the gate, she felt a bit uncomfortable. In the guards' eyes, she probably seemed like someone with nothing to do.
She said stubbornly, "Going back to Phoenix City is fine, but I want to live in my own home."
Charles didn't think this was a problem - at least she was willing to go back to Phoenix City.
"Okay, I agree with you. If you're willing to go back, I'll book our tickets right away."
Zoey said, "Tomorrow. After Matilda gets off work, we'll treat Matilda to dinner before we leave."
...
When Matilda heard they were going back, she also felt relieved.
It was fine for Zoey to stay here - two women could chat together. But with Charles staying here every day too, it wasn't very comfortable. She got up early for work in the morning and had to pass by the sofa when she came down, which would wake Charles up, and she felt bad about it.
Zoey caught the expression on Matilda's face and couldn't help saying, "Matilda wants us to go back too?"
Matilda smiled, "You should go back. Your belly is over five months now, you should be getting prenatal checkups. It's so inconvenient here, right? At least back in Phoenix City you'll have a nanny to take care of you."
The three of them had a meal together, then Charles and Zoey took a flight back to Phoenix City.
On the plane, Charles posted a photo, and after landing posted another Facebook update: Finally brought my little wife back home!
Then there was a whole page of likes.
But Zoey wanted to go back to her parent's home first.
So Charles had the driver who came to pick them up take them to the Turner house.
Mr. and Mrs. Turner had been waiting for ages. Knowing Zoey had gone to Cloud Town, they'd been worried the whole time.
Later when they heard she was pregnant, the couple couldn't even eat, and kept urging her to come back.
Zoey came back partly because of Charles, but partly because of her parents too.
At home she was always their little princess.
“Oh, my baby, please never run away from home without saying a word again,” Mr. Turner said as he rushed forward and pulled Zoey into a tight hug.
Mrs. Turner also went up to hug her, and the family of three hugged and cried together, as if they'd been separated for ages.
Charles smiled from behind.
This family of three had such a good relationship. Zoey really was a happy little princess. He decided to keep spoiling her from now on, let her be a little princess for life.
After Zoey and her parents had hugged enough, Zoey turned around and saw Charles was still there. She couldn't help asking, "Why haven't you gone home yet?"
