Chapter 202 Still Have to Meet Her
Amelia spoke with heartfelt sincerity.
After leaving Janice's place, shewent to Zoey's home.
After all, they weren't divorced yet, and her mother-in-law still deserved respect, so Zoey came downstairs.
As soon as Amelia saw Zoey, she asked, "Have you gained weight?"
Zoey was wearing a babydoll dress, and her figure seemed a bit rounder. But looking at her face, she actually appeared a little thinner. Since it had been over thirty years since Amelia had given birth, she couldn't tell right away.
Zoey still hadn't told anyone about her pregnancy, including her parents.
Seeing Amelia, she politely said, "Mom, what brings you here?"
Amelia told her about meeting with Janice. "I already told Janice that if she needs anything in the future, she should come to me and stop bothering Charles."
Zoey was somewhat touched.
Although her mother-in-law played favorites, she was extremely good to her.
And even though she often helped Matilda go against Amelia, Amelia didn't seem to hold it against her.
"Mom, who Charles wants to see is his freedom. I can't stop him. I just... I just feel like he doesn't care about me. Charles marrying me was probably just my own wishful thinking. If he really can't let go of his ex-girlfriend, then I'll let him go."
Amelia felt heartbroken. "Zoey, don't say that. Charles is my son, I understand him better than you do. If he really loses you, he'll definitely regret it later."
The two chatted about some trivial matters.
Amelia's point was that Zoey needed to think it through and not give up on Charles easily.
After Amelia left, Zoey leaned back on the sofa and glanced at her phone.
Charles had only replied to her message that morning, telling her not to be unreasonable.
He really thought she was just making threats.
……
After Zoey ignored Charles for a few days, on the third day, Charles finally realized something was wrong.
He had thought she was just being stubborn and staying at her parents' for a couple of days. After all, if she came back after just one or two nights of leaving home on her own, wouldn't that be embarrassing? Charles was being considerate of her pride, which is why he hadn't gone to pick her up himself.
Now seeing that she hadn't come back for several days and hadn't sent any messages, he suddenly felt lost.
The weather had turned cold. When he came home alone and didn't see his little chipmunk waiting for him, he felt like something was missing.
That evening, Charles called Zoey.
It rang twice before being hung up.
He called again, and she hung up for the second time.
So he contacted her on WhatsApp: [Zoey, when are you coming home? How about I come pick you up?]
Zoey: [That's not necessary. Just hurry up and sign the divorce papers.]
Charles: [Zoey, stop this. I don't want to divorce you.]
Zoey: [Then don't see Janice anymore.]
Charles: [I promise you.]
Zoey hadn't expected Charles to agree so quickly.
She asked again: [Are you serious? You really won't see her anymore?]
Charles replied: [My mom will handle her matters from now on. I won't deal with her stuff anymore. You're my wife.]
Zoey: [Can you really bear to do that?]
Charles: [Of course I can.]
Charles was speaking from his heart.
He really couldn't let go of Janice. He worried that she wasn't doing well.
But with his mother taking care of her, Janice couldn't possibly be doing badly.
He had already done enough for her.
Charles came to pick up Zoey.
Mr. Turner and Mrs. Turner watched Zoey. She had arrived with one big suitcase, and now she was leaving with another big suitcase, all happy and cheerful.
Zoey said excitedly, "Charles is willing to stop seeing his ex-girlfriend for me. That shows he really cares about me. I'll give him one more chance, one last chance!"
Mr. Turner and Mrs. Turner sighed.
Love really can make a person humble.
……
Charles brought a lot of things when he came to pick up Zoey.
He had gifts for his in-laws—premium coffee and a jewelry set worth $600,000 for Mrs. Turner.
For Zoey, he brought a cake she loved.
Zoey didn't have many particular preferences. Apart from singing, she loved eating, so this gift was perfect for her.
Zoey said shyly, "Since you bought me food, I'll go back with you."
Charles hugged her, held her hand, and opened the car door for her.
Halfway home, Zoey was a bit excited.
Since Charles said he wouldn't see Janice anymore, that meant he still valued their marriage. She wanted to tell Charles about her pregnancy.
"Charles, do you want to be a dad?" Zoey asked.
"I guess so."
"What do you mean 'I guess so'?" Zoey thought his answer was too vague.
"If we have one, we'll have the baby. If not, that's fine too. It's good enough with just the two of us," Charles said.
Zoey touched her belly. If she took off her clothes, her lower abdomen was already noticeably protruding.
Just as she was about to tell Charles, his phone rang.
Charles's phone was mounted on the car's dashboard, and the caller ID was clearly visible.
"Janice?"
Charles glanced at Zoey.
Zoey said, "Answer it."
Only then did Charles press accept. "Janice, what's up?"
"Charles, I want to see you. Don't get me wrong—I heard from Mrs. Gonzaga about you and your wife. I just want to see you one last time, just once. Is that okay?"
Charles paused.
He looked at Zoey again.
Zoey didn't say anything, acting like "whatever you want."
Charles said, "It's not convenient. If you have something to say, just say it on the phone."
"I can't explain it clearly on the phone," Janice said.
"I'm with Zoey, and she doesn't like me seeing you. Janice, unless we really run into each other on the street, I won't see you anymore," Charles said.
Then he hung up.
Zoey was quite satisfied.
His attitude made her feel comfortable.
The two returned home, and the housekeeper helped take Zoey's things out of the suitcase and put them away.
Zoey went to take a shower and deliberately wore a dress that showed her figure. She planned to tell Charles about her pregnancy after the shower.
"Charles, I'm done washing..."
Just as she was about to speak, Charles's phone rang.
It was Janice again.
"Janice, what is it?" Charles asked.
However, it wasn't Janice's voice on the line, but the housekeeper's. "Mr. Gonzaga, Miss Janice just accidentally fell down the stairs and passed out. What should I do?"
"Did you call an ambulance?"
"I did. The ambulance will be here soon, but I need to take care of Jane and can't go with the ambulance. I don't have your mother's number either."
Charles hung up the phone.
Then he looked at Zoey. "I might have to go out. Janice had an accident."
Tears welled up in Zoey's eyes. "Charles, you can't go. I have something to tell you."
"Zoey, she had an accident. I'm afraid someone might die," Charles said, hugging Zoey and patting her shoulder. "Be good and wait for me at home. I'll be back soon."
