Jay Lee’s POV
I stood up and approached him. He remained standing where he was, unmoving. His blue eyes stared at me. It was the first time I saw and met the boy who was separated from me for six years. And for all that time, I didn’t know his whereabouts and identity.
If he knew the truth, would he be willing to accept my explanation and existence?
“Your name is Jensen, right?” I asked.
“Yes, who are you?” he asked. His voice was a soft boy’s voice. He was taller than Jessie. And since they were twins, of course, their faces were similar. His eyes were the same blue color as mine, his hair was light brown, the same color as Piper’s hair.
“Oh, umm, my name is Jay Lee Adams. I’m your mom’s boss. Nice to meet you,” I replied as I shook his hand.
“So, you’re Jessie’s dad,” he said.
“Yes. You must have met her. Congratulations on your victory.”
Oh, I’d forgotten that they’d met earlier that morning. But I wasn’t ready to explain anything. What should I do?
“Thank you. Jessie has a face similar to mine,” he said again. His demeanor was very calm, as if his meeting with Jessie hadn’t affected him. Maybe it was just my feelings.
“Yes. Your mom and I intend to,” I replied, which was immediately cut off by Jensen’s words.
“To find out about me and Jessie. Am I right, Uncle?” he asked with a smile.
“Jensen, it’s rude to interrupt someone else words,” Piper exclaimed.
“It’s okay, Piper. Yes, you’re right. Would you mind waiting just a moment until we figure everything out?” I answered.
“Yes, uncle. Then I’ll go back to my bedroom. Good night, Uncle.” Then he left our presence. I exhaled a quiet breath, even though I wanted to hug him.
Suddenly, Piper approached me. “Sir, please forgive what he said earlier. He’s just a little boy.”
You’ve given me wonderful children, Piper. I can’t wait to hear him call me ‘Dad’.
“It’s okay, Piper. It’s no big deal for me. Let’s continue our conversation.”
That night, I talked Piper into going on the trip with me and Jessie. I had a plan to reveal the whole truth the next time we traveled. For that, I had to get Nick to finish all of this investigation.
After finishing my dinner, two pieces of cake, and two cups of tea, I headed home with the best memories of the night. My lips kept painting a smile and my heart was filled with happiness that I could finally see my son. If it hadn’t happened seven years ago, I might still be a single, workaholic man. I was grateful that my mom had a hand in all of this, even though I did not know what her reaction would be when she found out about Piper and our children.
When I got home, I went straight to Jessie and, as I had expected, Jessie told me all about Jensen and she described her surprise and happiness when she met Jensen, who looked so much like her. She kept asking me questions about Piper, but I still hadn’t answered her. I promised her I would explain everything the next time we went on a trip. I wanted time to pass quickly to the day we went on the trip together.
The next morning, when I had just finished showering, an incoming call from Nick rang.
“Good morning, sir,” he greeted from the other end.
“Morning, Nick. How did your investigation go?” I asked.
“I’ve checked with the brothel and their records. A woman was indeed sent to the hotel. She was a VIP woman who specializes in serving VIP customers. However, when I questioned the woman, she did not remember the incident seven years ago. Her physical characteristics were tall, thin, with red hair and green eyes. Of course, this differs from the description you gave. After that, I went to the hotel and helped the security to check the CCTV footage from seven years ago. Luckily, they still kept the recordings neatly, although it took a long time to search and check all the footage. After this, I hope you give me a big bonus, sir,” Nick replied.
“I will give you a big bonus, don’t worry. I’ll transfer the bonus right now. So, how does it go?” I asked impatiently.
“This is the climax. From the CCTV footage, I finally got all the answers. The crux of the matter lies in the room key. So, your room key was switched with that of a man whose face looked like he was Bill Walker, a playboy real estate entrepreneur. So, you spent the night with Ms. Piper. And Ms. Piper was there because Madam Megan invited her for a drink at the bar near the lobby. From the footage of the bar and lobby, two men carried Ms. Piper’s body upstairs and put her in the hotel room and then,” he replied.
“Nick, I’m thrilled. So, what’s next?” I asked curiously.
“About Miss Jessie being in the hands of Madam Megan. The nurse who helped Ms. Piper gave birth said that Madam offered them a huge amount of money and asked them to exchange Miss Jessie with another dead baby girl who had similar physical features. That’s why Ms. Piper was confused when she saw Miss Jessie, who had a similar face to Jensen, while she was sure that her baby girl had died. And Doctor Kevin has been declared dead by suicide. I still haven’t gotten a clue about Doctor Kevin’s death,” Nick replied.
“Nick, you’re amazing. Yeah! Finally. Ok, you can go back to the office while you continue to investigate Doctor Kevin’s death. Oh, did you copy the hotel CCTV footage? And record your interview with the nurse?” I asked.
“I did, sir. I have prepared everything well,” he replied.
“Ok. Good job. Now I need to get to the office and prepare for my vacation trip with Piper and the kids.”
“Congrats, sir. I’ll go to the office now. See you soon.”
“Ok.”
Finally, most of the truth had been revealed. It was time to explain all this to Piper and our children.
Long story short, the day I was waiting for arrived. In the morning, when the sun still hadn’t risen, Jessie woke me up and asked me to get ready quickly. Her face was so happy that her happiness rubbed off on me.
Once we were ready, we went to pick up Piper and Jensen. Piper’s mom didn’t come along because she wanted to give us time to be together. A few moments later, we arrived in front of the apartment lobby. From the elevator, Piper came out with Jensen. My eyes couldn’t stop looking at her. She was beautiful.
“Piper,” Jessie called out, waving.
Piper smiled, but Jensen just stayed silent and looked at me with a look that was hard for me to decipher. After putting their luggage in the car's trunk, we rushed to the dock to board the cruise ship.
