Maisie's POV
“If you dare to get on, I’ll call security,” I warned while holding Erina’s arm, which was about to enter the lift.
Our hands met in rising tension. Erina looked at me with a challenging stare, as if trying to find a way to turn the situation around.
The atmosphere in the lobby grew busier, and the whispers from those watching our drama only added to the weight on my shoulders.
I knew my threat might sound excessive, but I didn’t want to let Erina cross the line. At that moment, everything felt like a power play, and I was determined not to lose.
This moment was about maintaining control, and I was ready to stand my ground, even as the pressure around me intensified.
“Are you threatening me?”
“Of course. You need to know the rules; if you’re not permitted to get on, then don’t. So, you wait here until you’re allowed to go up,” I said firmly while walking past Erina.
“Don’t be rude!” Erina growled, growing angrier, holding the lift door to prevent it from closing.
I shoved Erina’s hand away from the lift door again. “If you want to risk the embarrassment of being dragged out by security, go ahead,” I challenged with a slight smirk.
“Ugh… damn!” Erina cursed angrily, glaring at me until the lift doors closed.
Inside the lift, I sighed in relief. The thought of the chaos that could ensue if Erina got on made me shudder.
The atmosphere inside the lift felt quiet, only the sound of the machine filling the void. I tried to calm myself, but the remaining tension still loomed over me.
Everything that happened in the lobby reminded me of how complicated our relationships were. In an instant, everything could change. I hoped this situation would settle down soon, and there would be no more accompanying drama.
“But what does she want with Neo here?” I murmured, wondering.
The lift doors dinged open, and I stepped out. The atmosphere outside felt different, calmer compared to the chaos I had just experienced.
However, my mind was still trapped on the question of Erina’s intentions. Why was she so determined to meet Neo? Was there something deeper happening between them?
I shook my head, trying to dispel those thoughts. Right now, the most important thing was to focus on my own goals. Perhaps it was time to address all this tension and seek clarification on everything that had happened.
With steady steps, I continued my journey towards Neo’s office, determined to face whatever lay ahead.
“Maisie?” Neo called out, standing in the hallway. “Where are you going?”
“Oh, I’m heading to Mr. Alexander’s office.” Maisie walked quickly, searching for Alexander’s office. This was her first time on this floor, so she wasn’t familiar with where her husband’s office was.
The hallways on this floor seemed wider and quieter compared to the lower floor. The walls were adorned with elegant artwork, but Maisie’s attention was solely focused on her destination.
Each step added to her anxiety. She knew this meeting was important, but the memory of her argument with Erina still haunted her. With determination, she continued her search, hoping to find the answers she had long sought.
“You must have run into Erina downstairs?” Neo seemed to follow her.
“Oh, that… yeah.”
“Dad’s office is here.” Neo pointed to a closed double door.
“Thanks,” I replied casually. I knocked on the door rather loudly, while Neo stood beside me.
“Erina wants to withdraw her divorce petition,” Neo suddenly whispered.
Those words hung in the air, leaving me momentarily stunned. It felt like the ticking of a clock slowed down, allowing every word to sink into my mind.
Hearing that made me feel mixed emotions. On one hand, there was relief that Erina might reconsider such a significant decision. But on the other hand, I knew this situation was becoming more complicated.
I then turned to Neo, looking at him in confusion. But before I could respond, the door in front opened. Alexander stood there with a furrowed brow upon seeing me and Neo together at his office door.
“What are you two doing?” he asked suspiciously, approaching and wrapping his arm around my waist. It was a possessive gesture that Alexander often displayed when he felt threatened.
I could sense the tension between them. Neo merely smiled faintly, but there was something in his eyes indicating he wasn’t entirely comfortable. Alexander, on the other hand, appeared more protective than usual.
“Oh, Neo was just telling me about this room, sir,” I said, gripping Alexander's hand resting on my waist. “Thanks, Neo. Come in, okay, babe?” I added, pushing Alexander into the room.
I didn't have the energy to deal with a potential confrontation if they faced off for too long. Once the door closed behind us, the atmosphere felt slightly calmer, though the tension still lingered in the air.
Inside the room, the aroma of coffee and freshly printed paper filled my senses. Alexander turned to me, looking at me with an expression that was difficult to read. Meanwhile, Neo stood outside, seemingly waiting, but I knew he was ready in case the situation heated up again.
Taking a deep breath, I prepared myself for the conversation that might unfold. There were many things to discuss, and I knew this step was key to resolving all the existing tension.
My husband, Alexander, and I sat together at the table to enjoy lunch. With the meal I had prepared myself, I opened my box containing fresh vegetables, brown rice, and lean protein. Although this menu was familiar and a bit boring due to recommendations from the nutritionist, I knew how important it was to maintain a healthy diet during my pregnancy.
Meanwhile, Alexander had a special dish ordered from his favorite restaurant. The tempting aroma of his food made me a bit envious, but I reminded myself that this was all for my benefit and the baby growing inside me.
“But Maisie,” Alexander said with a smile, “if you’re bored with your food, we can try a new recipe this weekend. Maybe there’s a way to make those vegetables more interesting.”
I smiled at his offer. My husband always knew how to make me feel better, no matter how tough the situation was. He was very understanding and always supported me through every step of this pregnancy.
Our lunch passed with warm conversation and laughter. I felt grateful to have Alexander by my side, ready to embark on this journey together. Even though my meal might not be as exciting as his, our togetherness made every bite feel more comforting.
