Maisie's POV
"If you can't come here, I'll come to you," Alexander said bluntly.
"Okay, okay. I'm on my way now, sir."
After hanging up, anxiety returned to cloud my thoughts. I hurried to Alexander's office, trying to ignore the unease that kept haunting me.
Each step felt heavier, and my thoughts drifted back to Angga and Nina. What were they talking about? Was there something more important than this meeting?
I disconnected the call, quickly grabbed my lunchbox, and rushed out of Alexander's office.
As I walked quickly, my mind kept spinning. My curiosity about what was happening between Angga and Nina still troubled me. Were they planning something I didn't know about?
As I passed through the corridor, I tried to focus on my steps. The sound of my footsteps echoed along the walls, creating tension in the otherwise calm atmosphere.
Again, I had to eat the menu set by the nutritionist. And to monitor adherence, Alexander required us to always eat together.
If there were obstacles, I had to report by sending a selfie before and after eating.
Complicated? Indeed. I thought so too. However, I knew it was just Alexander's way of showing concern for me and the baby in my womb.
Even though it sometimes felt intrusive, I realized how important it was to maintain my health during this pregnancy. With strict rules, at least I felt cared for, and that provided a bit of comfort amidst all the worries surrounding me.
As I sat at the table, observing the chosen menu, I tried to focus on my food and ignore the complexities around me. There was nothing wrong with trying to adapt to this new routine, even if it sometimes felt constraining.
I walked lightly toward Alexander's office building. However, my steps suddenly slowed as I saw a familiar figure angrily shouting in the lobby.
The loud voice and tense expression caught my attention. Angga looked frustrated, his body language showing deep dissatisfaction.
I felt anxious, doubting whether I should approach him or keep my distance. My curiosity clashed with my instinct to stay uninvolved.
I tried to catch the words coming out of his mouth, hoping to understand what triggered his anger.
"Impossible! I know Neo is upstairs! Either send him down or tell me where his office is!" he shouted furiously.
"I'm sorry, ma'am. We can't disclose Mr. Neo's office without his permission," a receptionist explained politely.
The situation in the lobby grew tenser. Other employees began to pay attention, some even whispering among themselves. A sense of anxiety enveloped the atmosphere, creating an aura of discomfort around.
I stood on the sidelines, feeling torn between wanting to help Angga and maintaining my distance to avoid getting involved in this conflict. The uncertainty was increasingly disturbing my mind. What was happening with Neo? Why was Angga so angry?
All those questions swirled in my mind as I waited for the right moment to step forward or back away.
"But I’m still his wife! I have the right to know where my husband’s office is!" she said, emphasizing her words.
"In that case, please wait a moment. I'll call his office first," the receptionist said, half-panicked, half-annoyed.
The tension escalated. Erina appeared impatient, while the receptionist tried to remain calm despite the escalating situation. Other employees began to drift away, not wanting to get involved in the ongoing drama.
I watched every detail, feeling the discomfort that enveloped the lobby. My curiosity about what was really happening between Erina and Neo intensified.
Every second felt prolonged, and the crowd around us made me feel trapped. Inside, I hoped this situation would calm down soon, but the existing tension seemed far from over.
Yes, indeed. It was Erina who was angrily causing a stir, drawing whispers from people passing through the office lobby.
Her angry expression attracted a lot of attention, and some of them paused briefly to see what was happening. Whispers began to circulate among colleagues, creating an increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere.
Erina looked very emotional, and her fiery spirit contrasted sharply with the calm of the receptionist, who was trying to handle the situation. While I felt concern, I couldn't help but feel curious about what was really happening between them.
Seeing Erina in that state made me reflect on the relationships and conflicts that often occur among those closest to us. The uncertainty and drama in the lobby only added to the existing tension.
I pretended not to notice. I walked quickly toward the elevator. However, my steps immediately halted as Erina called my name.
"Maisie!" Erina quickly approached me, gripping my shoulder and turning me to face her. "What are you doing here?" she asked, her tone far from friendly.
“What else? I’m going to my husband’s office.” I intentionally used the phrase ‘my husband’ to remind Erina of her place.
Our gazes met, and the atmosphere between us felt tense. Erina’s expression showed that she was not pleased with my presence.
That moment felt like a competitive arena, where the words we exchanged became weapons. Although I knew this situation was not ideal, I felt the need to stand firm in my position.
I could sense the discomfort around us, but I was determined not to back down. This was the right time to clarify boundaries, and I was ready to face the consequences.
And it worked; Erina seemed to tighten her jaw, holding back her frustration. “I’m coming too!”
“What?” I frowned. “No way!” I shoved Erina’s hand that was gripping my shoulder.
My firm stance made the atmosphere even more heated. Erina looked increasingly frustrated, her eyes sparkling with emotions that were hard to decipher.
People around us began to pay closer attention, whispers among them growing louder. My curiosity about what was happening between Erina and Neo resurfaced.
I could feel the tension hanging in the air. This moment was not just about the two of us, but also involved a more complicated relationship between us and Neo. A decision had to be made, and I didn’t want to let Erina step further without resistance.
“Why not? Just get on. Come on!”
