Chapter 96 Dear wife

Chapter 96 Dear wife
Not too far away, there was another building. At the top was Vincent with a telescope. When the building exploded, he gasped and shifted back. He actually saw the two familiar figures at the building window and was shocked to see Romeo and Diego.

Diego was now in the river, drowning, while his younger brother... his brother... was dead.

There were five of them watching, but he was the only one who saw it.

Shock etched every part of his face. A hand held his shoulder.

"Mister, we have to leave now. Our work here is done," a voice said behind him. Hearing no reply from Vincent, he frowned. "Is there something wrong?" he asked suspiciously.

Vincent snapped back to reality and shook his head vehemently. "Nothing, of course," he breathed out.

"Let's go. The military and firefighters have arrived."

Well, since Diego is drowning, he shouldn't worry, right? There's no need to tell Griffin about it.

But still, he couldn't shake off the feeling of losing his only brother...

At the hospital, when the news spread like wildfire, Hannah was seated on her bed, her expression blank as she stared at the television. A night news flash appeared on the screen, and it was like she had just snapped out of her trance.

THE FAMOUS DIEGO GONZALEZ, KNOWN AS THE BILLIONAIRE DEVIL, WAS CONFIRMED DEAD IN A TERRORIST ATTACK IN MOSCOW.

She slowly stood up with wide eyes. For the first time in weeks, she spoke.

"Diego is dead?" she muttered, not knowing what to feel. She suddenly heard footsteps approaching. She quickly hopped back on the bed and pretended to still be traumatized.

Vincent, her husband, walked in drunk, and she was surprised to see tears in his eyes. Isn't he supposed to be rejoicing? Definitely, something went wrong.

Vincent sat beside his wife, his lazy gaze moving up to her as he smiled.

"When will you be fine, huh?" Vincent slurred his words as he reached for Hannah's hand. "I've missed you."

Hannah stayed quiet. People let out their feelings when drunk, so she craved to know what he had to say.

"You know I've been trying to do anything to make you happy, my love. I wanted to give you the best: money, power, anything. Even though you were so demanding, I tried to satisfy you, Hannah..." he paused and sniffed. "I really did. I sacrificed my humanity, going after my brother. He hated his wife because of me and ruined his own family... but still, I lost to him. You hated me because of that. I wanted to stop..."

Hannah didn't want to admit this, but everything her husband was saying was reaching her.

"Our son is now a beast. He doesn't even care about anything or anyone. I tried to stop him, but he threatened his own father to death... And now it's too late. Romeo... Romeo died in his son's place. He blew up in the fucking building while his son drowned in the river... Hannah, what kind of parents are we, huh? He doesn't even care about us, even after what we had done. He never visited you after his release... I hate to admit this, but I feel so bad," Vincent sucked in his breath, tears dripping down his face.

He squeezed Hannah's hand gently and rested his head on it. His breath turned even, indicating his sleep.

Hannah stayed frozen, her eyes tearing up, but she quickly wiped them away.

PRESENT

Candy released Hannah from her grip in shock. Romeo is dead, which means Jameson saw Romeo's body instead.

Hannah coughed, holding the table before her. Tears streamed down her face.

"It's all my fault," she mumbled. "All of this is happening because of me," she sniffed, composing herself. "The truth is... after a drink, I was planning to end this miserable life of mine."

Candy suddenly felt irritated; it was the cold and stress she went through. Palming her lips, she rushed to the small bathroom in the room and threw up.

She washed her face and took a large breath. What is she doing? She has a life growing inside her.

Hannah walked to the bathroom entrance with a surprised look.

"You're pregnant?" she asked.

Candy only rolled her eyes, not replying.

"Oh God, that's unbelievable," she exclaimed with a smile. Candy scoffed.

"Stop pretending," Candy forced herself up, her head spinning, and she held the wall for support.

"Pretending? Honestly, I feel shocked and happy for you. You don't look good, Candy. Have you eaten?"

"Stop worrying about me," Candy snapped.

"You'll hurt yourself and the baby if you..."

"I said stop!"

"Why don't you believe me? You don't look good..."

"Oh, I'm sorry... maybe because you tried to get rid of me many times?" Candy said, and Hannah saw she was right.

"I'm sorry, Candy. But don't tell me you are planning to head to Moscow," Hannah folded her arms.

"I need to find him," Candy muttered.

"Are you kidding? It's really dangerous out there. I overheard Griffin is looking for you everywhere. Trust me, he knows you're planning to head there."

Candy's face finally softened.

"You should eat first and think about it," Hannah said worriedly. This time, sincerely.

___

Candy could barely eat her food. She was getting nauseous by everything around her.

Hannah, who sat before her, sighed. "Should we meet a doctor?"

Candy shook her head. "No."

Hannah felt bad. "Are you sure?"

"Okay, please stop talking about that. I need to be in Moscow to find my husband. He probably needs my help and I..."

"Shh," Hannah cut her off, staring outside the restaurant window. Some strange men were approaching the place.

"Candy, they are here. Get out of here through the restaurant's back door. I'll try to distract them."

Candy saw the men too and immediately stood to leave.

The men walked into the restaurant, eyes scanning the whole place. One of them recognized Hannah as Griffin's mother.

"She is traumatized and should be in the hospital. Why is she here?" asked one of them as they stared at the woman staring blankly into space.

"That is not our concern. Search for Candy," another instructed.

As they made to leave, Hannah threw her glass of water onto one of their heads.

The man's eyes widened, seeing his head bleeding. He shot a glare at Hannah, who smiled at him like a crazy woman. "What the fuck?!"

Candy walked through the dark, cold street. Her eyes scanned the whole place. She halted when she saw Griffin's men ahead and immediately turned and headed for another route. Again, she saw them. Her heart pounded against her chest.

She turned to leave but saw them ahead again. Oh no, is she going to be caught?

Just then, a hand pulled her around a corner. Her head bumped into a familiar hard chest.

Candy abruptly froze, her eyes widened at the familiar scent. She is not hallucinating, right? There's only one person who has this unique warmth.

She made to look up, but he held her head close to his chest, gently.

"Stay still, dear."

It's him... It's really him. That is his voice. Soon, the men disappeared.

Candy slowly looked up at his face. The tears she had been holding finally came out. He also stared at her with his eyes teared up too, a relieved smile on his lips.

He lifted his hand to her cheek, wiping her tears off using his thumb.

"I told you I hate to see your tears... I'm so sorry it took this long to see you again, DEAR WIFE."
