Chapter 63 Rhea
Chapter 63 Rhea
RHEA'S POV
Bolting out of Estefan's study, I ran back to our room, closing the door behind me with my back resting on it. I placed my hand on my racing heart as my thoughts went wild.
Why did he kiss me? No, the real question was why did I kiss him back? I could have pushed him away as I did in Hawaii but why didn't I?
I hit the back of my head on the door, groaning at my stupidity. "Rhea, what is wrong with you?" I questioned myself.
All he did was take responsibility for something that was his fault and redeemed my reputation, so there was no reason to let my guard down around him. Besides, it was only a matter of time before we get divorced and go our separate ways, so I needed my brain and my heart to cooperate with me to avoid having unnecessary feelings that could hinder my plans.
Taking my hand away from my chest, I sighed as I walked away from the door to seat on the bed. As I thought about it, I couldn't help but wonder why he kissed me.
Was he falling for me? No, that couldn't be. He didn't even fall for Leah with all the effort she put into attracting him, so why would he fall for someone who always expressed how much she hated him?
A knock on the door interrupted my train of thought. "Come in," I answered.
The door opened, revealing Esmeralda whose eyes were fixed on her phone with her headphones hung on her neck. "Mom said I should call you and Estefan down for dinner." She glanced up at me before she looked around the room. "Where's Estefan?"
"He's in his study." I stood up to walk out of the room.
"Go get him then." She turned to the exit but I held her back.
"Mom sent you to him, so you should get him yourself. See you downstairs." I walked past her, leaving her in the room with a confused look.
There was no way I would go back in there after what happened, it was best I kept my distance for a while.
I took the elevator downstairs and made my way to the dining room where everyone else sat in their respective positions.
"Where's Estefan?" The queen asked as I walked closer to them.
"He's coming with Esmeralda," I replied as I took the second chair on the King's left. The Queen, Esteban and Anna occupied the seats on his right, leaving Estefan, Esmeralda and me to take the left side.
Estefan and Esmeralda walked in moments later and I tried so hard not to make eye contact with Estefan as he and Esmeralda took the seat on either side of me.
Two female attendants served everyone before they stood at the entrance waiting for us to finish our dinner.
The King cleared his throat before turning to Estefan. "I was quite surprised when I heard you would be attending the interview, but I was more proud of what you did." He smiled before turning to me. "I hope you are no longer giving him the silent treatment?"
"No." I shook my head.
"Rhea, I'm going to get a massage at the Spa tomorrow, do you want to tag along?" Queen Carina asked, "I can book the entire Spa for the day if you want to."
"That won't be necessary," Estefan responded before I could say anything.
"Why?" Queen Carina gave him a confused look.
"Rhea and I are going to London tomorrow."
"What?!" My eyes widened in surprise. "When did we agree on that?"
We only started talking that afternoon and I didn't remember him saying anything about us going to London not to talk of me agreeing to go with him.
"We didn't. I decided on my own." He shrugged and I blinked my eyes in confusion.
"Why are you going to London all of a sudden?" King Estevan asked.
"I have some business that requires my presence there."
"Is that why you didn't get her permission before deciding that she would be going with you?" Queen Carina narrowed her eyes at him.
"I didn't think there should be a problem with me wanting to take my wife along with me on a business trip." He turned to me with raised eyebrows. "Or is there?"
"Um, no, but is it necessary that I go with you?" I questioned.
"Rhea, why are you so slow in understanding people?" Esteban shook his head at me.
"What?" My eyebrows scrunched together.
"My brother is indirectly telling you that he doesn't want to be without for a second. In case you didn't know, he only went to the interview today because he was mad that you were avoiding him and not talking to him," Esteban explained. "So stop asking questions and just go with him. Think of it as the rest of your honeymoon that was cut short."
"Okay." I glanced at Estefan, expecting him to dispute everything that his brother said. But to my surprise, he didn't say anything and focused on his meal.
What Esteban said could not have been the reason why he was making me go to London, but he was not saying anything to dispute it to make everyone believe that, including me.
After the dinner, everyone retired to their various room. I stood in my closet trying to figure out what to pack for my last-minute trip.
"You know, it would have been helpful if you have informed me about this trip earlier," I called out to Estefan that was sitting on the bed, typing away on his phone.
"You already know now."
"How long are we going to be there?" I walked out of the closet and stood next to the bed with my arms folded.
"Nothing more than a week." He dropped his phone and glanced up at me. "Just come to bed, the attendants will help you pack your stuff tomorrow morning." He patted the space beside me.
"Fine." I climbed onto the bed, feeling happy that I didn't have to pack up myself. I lay down on my side turning my back to him. "Good night."
It didn't take long for me to feel an arm draping around my waist. I flinched but the arm tightened around me, pulling me closer to a hard chest.
"What are you doing?" I asked as my heartbeat picked up at the closeness between us.
"What normal couples do," he replied, burying his face in my hair.
When I agreed to live as a normal couple, I had no idea that being touchy and kissing each other randomly was part of the deal. It seems I couldn't get out of it now so I just had to live with it for the next few months. It shouldn't be that hard, should it?"
