Chapter Thirty Two
**Eve's POV **
The morning sun streamed through the kitchen windows, warming the room as I prepared for the annual pack race. I can feel the excitement in the air, a palpable force that quickens my anticipation. Yesterday's meal has cemented my place in the crowd, and now I'm ready to take another step on this journey.
"Are you ready for today?" Brielle asked, walking into the kitchen with a bright smile. She had a light touch, her enthusiasm infectious. "I think so! I was just trying to gather my courage." "I've never run with a pack before," I admitted as I poured myself a cup of coffee.
"Oh, you're welcome! Just follow us," she assured me, leaning against the counter "It's exciting to run together. You always feel the bond."
I shook my head and tried to suppress the fluttering in my stomach. "What if I can't keep going?"
Brielle laughed softly. "Trust me, we push each other. It's not about speed, it's about experience. Besides, we're all in this together."
Her words helped ease my anxiety, I felt a sense of belonging inside me. I slowly realized that this pack wasn't just about power. It was about support, communication, and acceptance.
After I finished my coffee, Damon walked into the kitchen with messy hair and a sleepy smile. “Good morning, Grace! Are you ready for the big day?”
“Trying to be,” I replied with a smile that broke my nerves.
“You’ll be fine,” he said, his voice steady and comforting. “Just remember to have fun. We’re all in this together.”
I liked the way he used my name. It felt personal, and it made me feel at ease this time. "Thank you, Damon. I appreciate it."
As we gathered our things, the kitchen came alive with laughter and conversation. The other members of the pack had already started, their excitement evident as they traded stories of past activities. The atmosphere was electric, and I couldn't help but sit back and watch.
"Hello everyone! Gather around!" Brielle called, clapping her hands for our attention. After the talk, we all turned to her. I know we all want to get started, but we need to talk about a few things first.
I listened carefully as he explained the right path to take, the importance of sticking together and communicating during the run. She had a leadership talent that was evident, and her confidence was inspiring.
“Remember, this is not a competition,” she continued. We are here to enjoy working together and connecting. Let it be a memorable experience."
As she spoke, I felt my nerves begin to fade, replaced by excitement. I was ready to embrace the unknown, ready to run with my new family.
Dressed and ready to go, I stepped outside into the morning air. The world was alive with possibilities, and the sun was starting to rise higher in the sky.
"Let's go!" Damien shouted and started running. The pack surged forward, a wave of energy washing over me and them.
I struggled to keep up at first, my heart racing as I matched their pace. But once we settled into a rhythm, I found my place. The land around us darkened into a beautiful palette of greens and browns, the sound of nature surrounding me.
“It’s okay,” I whispered to myself, feeling the rhythm of my feet hitting the ground. With each step I felt more connected to the ground beneath me, a sense of grounding that helped ground my mind.
The pack moved together, a beautiful dance of power and love. I looked around, caught in the smiles and laughter in the trees. It was exciting to be part of something so intertwined with life.
As we ran, I felt a sense of freedom. The worries and fears that had haunted me for so long began to fade, replaced by a newfound confidence. I was no stranger. I was part of this vibrant community.
As we neared a clearing, Brielle signaled that we should slow down. “Let’s rest!” she called, her voice echoing through the trees.
We gathered around a mahogany wood panting and laughing. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the pack. Looking around at the faces of my pack members, now all united, gratitude welled up in me.
"Good job, everyone!" Damon said, crossing his arms. "How's it feel to run like a pack?"
"Great!" someone shouted, sparking cheers and laughter from the group.
"I feel like I could run forever!" Rose added, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I'm not going to go that far," I said out loud as I wiped the sweat from my brow. "But it's amazing."
"See? You heard it!" Brielle laughed, her energy infectious, "The stress is real."
As we sat, I chatted with the other members of the pack. We shared stories of our experiences and our backgrounds, and I felt a growing connection with them. "Running is a great way to clear your mind," said one of the wolves, resting on the grass. "I always feel more focused after a run. It feels like everything has fallen into place."
"I agree," I replied. "I didn't think it would feel like this. It's just a given."
The conversation continued and flowed easily as we shared our thoughts on life, the pack, and everything in between. It’s a reminder that we’ve all been in this together, supporting each other, going on our own journeys.
After a while, Brielle clapped her hands again, signaling that it was time to go. She finished her run and turned back. We have lunch waiting for us, and I know you’re all excited for more food!”
As we headed back, I caught Damon's eye, and he smiled. But my heart skipped a beat as I saw a figure watching us from the trees. "Who's that?" I whispered to Damon, my voice trembling with unease.
