Chapter 78 The lunch: Part 2; Fiance's
I changed out of my uniform and into a black hoodie and a pair of shorts.
Looking into the mirror, I adjusted my blonde hair.
A knock on the door made me turn around. “Come in,” I said.
The doorknob twisted, and Mia walked in. “Hey,” she said.
“Hello.”
“Are you excited for lunch?”
“What's so exciting about lunch?” I asked as I moved to my seat on the bed.
She walked to sit beside me. “Nothing, I'm just hungry.”
Silence lingered as I looked away. She grabbed my hand and squeezed it. “I miss us. Remember when we used to play all the time and I would sleep over?”
“We were kids, Mia.”
“Yes, but it was amazing, wasn't it?”
I rubbed my eyes. “I don't have anything to say to you, let's just have dinner and get it over with,” I said.
She placed her hand on my back, and it strolled down it. “Well, I can assure you that we will spend much more time together from now on,” she smiled.
I removed her hand from my back and gently pushed it off.
Just then, a knock came at the door. I stood up and headed for the door. As I opened it, Lyra stood before me. “Food is ready,” she said. Her eyes strolled into the room and then back at me. She forced a smile and turned away.
I headed downstairs. As I walked, Mia walked closely behind me. I pulled aside a seat and placed myself on it. Mia quickly sat beside me.
“Good day, Mr. Michaelson,” I greeted her father.
He was dressed in a suit. His brown hair had a grey streak. He adjusted his clear glasses as he responded, “Hello, Salvatore, you have grown into such a big boy,” he said.
I nodded with a forced smile.
Lyra and her mother soon came to us with trays of food and began to set them down. Lyra had changed into a pair of black pants and a black tank top. Her blonde hair was put in a tight, sleek back, this accentuated her features.
My eyes were fixed on her as she placed food in front of me. I watched her steady hands, and then my eyes moved to her face again.
“Salvatore,” Mia whispered, “stop staring.”
I immediately looked away from her and cleared my throat.
Soon we began to eat in silence. Only the sound of forks hitting the plates echoed through the place.
“Salvatore, Mr. Michaelson and I have something to talk to you about,” Father finally spoke.
I placed my fork down. The air suddenly went tense around me. The serious looks on their faces made all the hair on my body stand.
“Since your father and I are now close businessmen, we have decided to make sure both of our companies are forever one,” her father said.
“Forever one?” I asked.
“When you and Mia graduate college in a few years, we have decided that you will get married,” Father said.
I placed my back against the seat behind me, my mouth wide with awe. “What?”
“Well, since both your parents have companies, you know that you will run them in future. We have invested a lot of money into each other's companies, and we want to make sure it stays in the family. When the two of you get married, the companies will become one.”
My head spun with disbelief. “You didn't think to ask me first?”
They both exchanged glances. “I didn't think we needed to. You and Mia are close, with time you'll grow to love each other.”
“You didn't think to ask me!” I slammed my hand against the table with rage, eyes blazing red with anger.
“Salvatore...” Mia's hand touched mine. I pulled my hand away from her, shooting her an angry gaze.
“You are still in high school. You cannot say you do not love her when you still have time to love her,” her father said.
“I'm sorry, but I have to decline. Your daughter is amazing, but she is not my type,” I protested.
“We have made a decision. It's either you accept or accept it, there's no other choice,” Father said.
Marriage?
So that's why they wanted to see us?
I looked upstairs, and my eyes met Lyra's. Her eyes were red with tears, her mouth was open in shock. As our eyes met, she looked away immediately.
“Father...”
“Shut up!” Dad barked. “For once, listen to me!” he barked in rage.
My fingers clenched tight against the wooden table. I would never marry a girl I didn't have feelings for, it didn't make any sense. An unhappy marriage?
Over my dead body.
Soon Lyra walked downstairs with a cup of tea. I could see the steam coming out of it. She avoided my gaze. Her trembling hands lifted the tray off her tray and attempted to place it on the table.
Mia's hand swung back, and the glass turned over, pouring the liquid on Lyra's skin. “Argh!!” Lyra shouted as the glass fell off her hand and shattered on the ground.
I stood from the seat, watching as she cried loudly. The part of her hand that burned had turned red.
“You did this on purpose!” I shouted at Mia, my index finger pointed at her.
“Salvatore!” Father barked loudly. “How dare you accuse her!”
Mia's eyes turned red, a pout forming on her lips. “I didn't do it on purpose. Why would you accuse me?” she cried, but I knew it was all crocodile tears.
Lyra quickly rushed off. I tried to run after her, but Father's gaze forced me to sit back down.
“You seem to care a lot about the maid. She should be okay,” Mia's father said.
Throughout dinner, all I could think of was Lyra. She had heard it all, that I would marry Mia, but I knew I wouldn't. I was ready to go against Father just so that I wouldn't marry Mia.
After we ate, I quickly walked home to our bedroom, aiming to call Lyra over to check on her health. As I grabbed my phone, the door opened behind me.
I rolled my eyes as I looked back to see Mia.
She shut the door and walked to me. “Why are you like this? We have been friends for so long, it only makes sense to get married. I like you,” she confessed. Inching even closer, she placed her hand on my chest. “Why don't you like me?” Her voice was soft.
But how could I focus?
My girlfriend's hand was burning, and here another girl was trying to get my attention.
I tried to push Mia off, but I suddenly felt her lips on mine. “Mia,” I groaned. “Ah...” I whimpered as I felt her bite my lower lip, her hand gripping my shirt.
