Chapter 72 The new boy
Chapter 72 The new boy
He finally managed to convince me to walk the streets of Spain with him. I was dressed in a red overcoat while he was dressed in black. Our hands were clasped together.
Under the night sky, I watched children run around the place. Some of them were chased by their parents.
I laughed as I watched one of them. The lady yelled in Spanish. When Salvatore laughed, I knew she had said something funny.
He led me into a restaurant. It was larger than a hall. People dressed elegantly sat together and ate, and a woman dressed in a black suit and skirt approached us.
Half an hour later, we were back in the suite. It felt nice to step out, but being back here felt better.
As I placed down my purse, my eyes caught a mannequin standing in the corner of the room. It had a suit on it, a very expensive suit. Beside it was a desk with an expensive wristwatch.
It wasn't here before.
I walked to it and picked up the watch. There was a note attached to it. It made a loud crunch as I opened it. “I know you will put no effort into what you'll wear to the wedding, so I bought you this. Some men will be waiting outside your hotel to pick you up in two days,” I read it out loud.
Salvatore slumped into a seat. “If only he put that much effort into loving mom,” he tapped on his lap. “Come sit.”
I placed the watch down and walked to him. “Do you want to talk about it?”
He shook his head. “I just want you,” he said.
He parted his legs and I sat on his left thigh. His hand wrapped around my waist. “You are coming with me, you know that right?”
I nodded. “Of course, I have to be there for you.”
His hand rested on my back. “I want to get you a beautiful dress.”
I shook my head. “No, I'm not going there as your date. We are still a secret, remember?”
His eyes formed a heart as he looked at me. “I love you.”
I smiled. “I love you too.”
“I hate that I have to hide what we are,” he said, wrapping his arms around me for a hug.
I hugged him back.
His head rested on my body and he squeezed me tighter. I watched him sniff as he began to sob. “I don't think I can handle it when he marries her in two days,” he sobbed.
I rubbed his back. “It's okay.”
A knock on the door suddenly caught our attention. I stood from his lap and moved to open the door. A man dressed in a suit stood before me.
His eyes scanned me and moved to Salvatore. “Mr. Sinclair? Your father demands that you dress up and meet him and Ms. Becky at home in an hour,” he said.
Salvatore stood and walked towards us.
“He's meeting with her family and wants you there.”
Salvatore said nothing and slammed the door shut. His chest heaved with rage. “I don't want to be there,” he rubbed his eyes.
“You have to go. You can't make your father mad,” I said.
“Can you come with me?” he asked.
“Of course.”
An hour later, the man drove us to Becky's home. It was a mansion, not too big. Salvatore dressed in a black T-shirt and a pair of blue jeans with a black overcoat to top it, while I wore a black dress and a black coat.
His hand wrapped around mine as we both walked into the building. The place smelled of food. There were many people in the living room, all chatting and laughing happily.
My eyes immediately caught Becky in the corner. She wore an animal skin dress and held a glass of wine in her hand.
“Salvatore,” Mr. Sinclair’s voice came from the side. I looked at him. His eyes were fixed on Salvatore. He exhaled sharply. “Behave yourself. You only have to be here for an hour. Follow me to greet the family,” he said and began to walk. As Salvatore and I followed, he stopped and turned to face me.
“Stay. This is family business.”
I removed my hand from Salvatore’s and stepped back. He slid his hands into his pockets and walked off.
I cleared my throat and walked to a seat. Bowing my head, I adjusted my coat and looked around, watching as Salvatore greeted the guests.
“For some reason I just knew he would bring you,” Becky’s cold voice drew closer.
I looked to my side and saw her walking towards me. She snapped her fingers and gestured for me to get up.
I quickly obeyed. “Hello,” I greeted.
“Unfortunately we don't have maids in this house. Come clean up my bedroom,” she ordered. I stood from my seat and followed closely behind her as she led me upstairs to a room.
“You only need to adjust the bedsheets and sweep the floor, nothing much,” she stood at the door.
I walked deeper into the room and grabbed the crumpled bedsheets. She watched me work for a while before she spoke. “Salvatore… I know the kid is a bit distant but I’m quite curious. Have you ever seen him with a woman?”
I froze. “Woman?”
“A girl,” she corrected. “I don't know the right term for an eighteen-year-old kid. Humor me.” She moved to a seat and slumped into it.
“No, I haven't,” I shook my head.
“Not even Mia?” she pushed.
My fingers gripped the sheets and I exhaled. “No, not Mia.”
“Well, that's too bad. He better start now. His father is going to make him date her. They…”
A knock came at the door, cutting her short. “Aunt Becky?” a boy’s voice came.
Becky stood from her seat and staggered towards the door. She seemed quite drunk. She walked to the door and opened it. A boy around my age stood there, dressed in a blue sweater and black pants.
“What do you want, Raymond?” she asked.
He responded in Spanish. I couldn't understand.
“Gracias,” she said and walked past him.
He didn't walk away. His eyes were fixed on me. “You came here with the blonde boy, right?” he asked. “Mr. Sinclair’s son?”
I nodded.
He stepped in and shut the door. “Why is my aunt making you clean her room?” he gave me a puzzled look.
I shrugged. “I'm a maid to the Sinclairs family.”
He chuckled, but his smile suddenly fell. “Really? You don't look like a maid.”
I ran my hands against the bed to make it smooth. “Well, I am,” I said. I turned, searching for a broom.
“You are the prettiest maid I have ever seen for sure,” he smirked.
I rolled my eyes. Was he really flirting with me?
He walked closer. “Want to hang out later?” he asked.
I rubbed my eyes in frustration. “I have to go back to the hotel with my master.”
“Well, I can always ask Mr. Sinclair to let you go for a while,” he winked.
I shook my head. “I
'm not interested,” I said and tried to walk past him, but his hand gripped mine and he pulled me back.
“Come on, sweetheart.”
