Chapter 55 - Attack!
Sapphire told Alexander the whole matter about my mother; she found her and the next day got to know that she died.
Others might call her heartless but she couldn't make up her mind to go and be a part of her funeral. Actually, the damage inside her was too deep, too severe.
Alexander didn't ask her anything or tell her to go there, for which she was grateful. After this incident, Sapphire was feeling lonely and most of the time, she stayed home with a sad, dejected face. Alexander could understand what was going inside her. So, he called her mother and father in his mansion to stay some days here, so that Sapphire could spend some time with his mother.
Both Alexander and his father were ruthless mafias, but his mother was a kind and gentle woman. She loved Sapphire as her own child and tried to cheer her up.
Sapphire was passing her days feeling downcast, upset and lonely. Alexander's mother, Lily also noticed that.
Her heart swelled with kindness for this poor girl. Sapphire was skipping her university classes as well.
Sapphire was sitting by the pool looking at the water. Lily came there and sat by her side.
"Honey, are you alright?" She said, touching her arm.
"Huh?" Sapphire seemed to be startled.
"Sorry, Lily. I didn't hear you. What were you saying?" Sapphire asked.
"I said dear are you alright? You don't talk much, don't eat properly, even skipping your classes at the university. I am afraid, darling." Lily told her stroking her soft hair.
Sapphire's eyes welled up with tears. She didn't say anything. Looking down, she silently shedded her tears.
Lily quickly pulled her in a motherly hug.
Sapphire couldn't understand what to do, it was so sudden. Nobody ever hugged her like this, her mother never really recognized her as her own child.
Sapphire's heart which was always deprived of motherly love, couldn't help giving into Lily's hug. She found the taste of never introduced motherly affection in her warm embrace. Sapphire hugged Lily back and a heavy sob broke free from her mouth.
"It's okay, darling. It's okay. I haven't given you birth. But from today, you are not motherless, I am your mother." Lily softly uttered. Sapphire still continued crying and looked at Lily with teary eyes.
"My good girl. Don't cry. Mother's heart hurts to see her child crying." Lily spoke and wiped her tears. She felt sympathy for this poor girl and wondered how a mother couldn't love her child when her child was like Sapphire. Innocent, sweet, caring.
Lily wanted to make Sapphire's head drift into another topic. So that she could forget about her mother's incident and stop crying. She was crying so long and it would affect her health.
"So, how about I cook something delicious for you, sweetie? What do you want to eat? Tell me, I will make it." Lily beamed at Sapphire.
"Cook for me?" Sapphire was surprised, her mouth hung open.
Lily laughed at her expression.
"Close your mouth. Mother can cook for her children at any time. Just tell me what you want to eat. Understand?" Lily rolled her eyes at Sapphire playfully.
Sapphire laughed at her.
"I want to eat... um... let me think..." Sapphire looked up, thinking about what she wanted to eat.
"How about pizza?" Sapphire beamed. Lily got amused seeing Sapphire's expression, she was still a child.
"Okay, I am gonna make pizza for you. What toppings would you like?" Lily asked.
"I am okay will whatever topping, but please add mushrooms in them." Sapphire didn't forget to add.
"Then you like mushrooms, I guess." Lily framed.
"Umm. Very much." Sapphire closed and opened her eyes nodding.
Lily was amused, she realized this calm and composed girl, still was a child from inside.
She stood up to go to the kitchen.
"Let me help you." Sapphire also followed her.
Lily made the dough while Sapphire helped her with chopping mushrooms, chicken, pepper, tomatoes, and grating cheese.
Ding!
They both heard the signal of the oven.
"It's ready." Lily chirped, clapping her hands. Sapphire couldn't help but laugh at her again.
"Umm. It-itsh s-soo tasty." Sapphire said with her mouth full of pizza. Lily placed another slice in her plate.
She wanted a daughter in law, good and naive not any gold digger. Finally, she was happy his son found the girl who had a heart of gold.
.......................................................................
Alexander was in his mansion talking with Sapphire.
"How about we go on a vacation somewhere nice after my second semester ends?" Sapphire asked Alexander.
"It will be fantastic. Where do you want to go?" Alexander asked.
"Bora bo-" Sapphire couldn't finish her words, the surroundings trembled with the deafening sound of gun-shots.
"Alexander!" Sapphire looked at her questioningly.
"We are under attack." He said and took out his gun.
"Alexander? What will we do now? Where are your mom and dad? Are they okay?" Sapphire panicked.
"I must go and check on them. I will kill the bastards who attacked me, " Alexander said, a deep crease on his forehead showed he was worried.
Alexander was confused, who dared to stir an attack? He has killed the entire clan of his enemies.
"Boss, Russian mafia attacked, one of our men named Silvis betrayed with us and helped the Russians. He was a Russian mafia spy. They are all armed and a total of 22 to 25 persons. They must be here to take revenge." One of Alexander's men came panting.
Alexander was feeling blood-boiling rage.
How dare his men betray him?
"He was the second assistant in the mansion security system. Boss, they have already surrounded the front gate. We can't even call our men for help too. What to do?" The man was frantic.
"Roud, call all of our men and tell them to come here immediately through the secret tunnel with all needed arms and munitions, " Alexander ordered.
"Yes, boss." The man quickly went away.
"Angel, you stay in this room, hide inside the closet, locking the door from inside. Don't come out no matter what. I have to go." Alexander calmly said to Sapphire.
"No, I will go with you; I won't let you fight alone this time, " Sapphire argued instantly.
"No, angel. It's not something I want you to experience, it's too dangerous." Alexander forbade her.
"Alexander, I know. I want to help you. You know I fight well." Sapphire remarked.
"Sapphire! I said no. No means no. You won't say anything this time." Alexander yelled sternly losing his patience.
"Will you be okay? Promise, you will be." Sapphire said tightly holding his hands.
"I will be, I must go. I will save you. I must cover up for now." Alexander said giving her hand an assuring squeeze.
After Alexander was gone, Sapphire hid inside the closet, covering both ears. Loud sounds of the gunshots were ringing; had the whole mansion shaken up.
Sapphire's mind was in overdrive, she couldn't think anything at all.
She was praying to God, so that everyone would be okay, Alexander, his family.
After an hour, the door of her room was blown away with a dreadful sound.
"Door was locked from inside, she must be inside." Sapphire heard someone speaking. Sapphire sat inside the closet tightly closing her eyes shut.
Suddenly the closet door was opened.
"Here, my my. We finally found the piece of a gem by which lord Alexander is so smitten. I must say, she is quite a piece." One of them said in a thick Russian accent. They both nastily smirked.
Sapphire didn't get out of the closet and her heart was about to come out of her mouth, she tried her best to act calm. Her body was shaking visibly in fear.
But anger rose inside her watching them approaching her.
"Stop right there!" She yelled, looking at them with her fiery eyes. She wasn't the typical damsel in distress who would cry and beg to let her go; rather she would fight tooth and nail.
Both of them caught off guard at her sharp penetrating gaze and hard voice.
They quickly hid the surprise. One of them raised his gun hand at Sapphire's direction.
"Alexander likes feisty kittens, I see. Now follow us or else, I would have to unload all the bullets inside the pretty head of yours. And believe me, my hand won't shake a bit, pretty lady." One of them harshly said, all their playfulness was gone.
Sapphire scrutinized their eyes, they were serious.
She followed them. One of them was pointed the gun at her face. Sapphire was thinking calmly, what to do. Getting out of the room, she happened to see everywhere there was blood and human corpses.
She saw some of them were Alexander's men but most of them were Russians. Her heart thudded crazily inside her chest.
Was Alexander okay?
She didn't try to fight as they were way too big and both of them had a gun, it would be a losing fight anyway.
Suddenly, her steps halted when she heard two gunshots. She closed eyes in fear, her feet were shaking.
When she opened my eyes, she noticed both of the men were lying dead on the floor.
She looked behind; Alexander was standing with a gun in his hand.
"Are you okay, Alexander?"
"Are you okay, angel?"
They both said at the same moment when their eyes met together.
Both sighed in relief.
"Where are your parents? Are they okay?" Sapphire asked him, worriedly.
He nodded. "We were able to take them in the safe room."
"How is everything?" She again questioned.
"Most of them are killed; a few are alive but they hid themselves. We must find them and catch them." Alexander said.
He observed their room, the door was blown away.
"I must keep you somewhere safer. Come with me." He said guiding the way.
"Stay inside this room, I will be back soon. The attack is over, almost. This room is safe, no one can enter or door can't be broken by any bomb." He said pushing her inside a room, that room was almost hidden.
A man came towards Alexander pointing his gun at him.
Suddenly, Sapphire saw another man was behind of a bim and he also targeted his gun at Alexander ready to shoot.
At the same time, two men targeted him but Alexander only saw the person before him, not the one who was behind him.
Even if he shot the first one, he wouldn't see the second one behind him and he would shoot Alexander. Alexander could see only one person, he wasn't aware of the two.
The first one was about to raise his gun and Alexander fired at him. The second one also fired instantly.
"Aaaaalexanderrrr! Moveeee asideee!" Sapphire screamed and ran towards him as quickly as she could.
Giving him a hard push, she made him move his body. He stumbled and his body moved left side by her hard abrupt push.
"Behind you!" I muttering she felt a bullet pierce her chest, her body hit the floor instantly with a jolt.
Alexander noticed the man and shot him in his head. His lifeless body fell on the floor instantly.
"Angel? Angel?"
Sapphire gasped as a sharp pain was sprouting inside her chest, intensifying every second.
"A-angel, Angel." She heard someone calling her name.
She was feeling difficulty to breathe, her vision became blurry.
"Angel, angel." Someone shook her up by the shoulder.
"Ahhhhh!" A scream escaped her mouth as the pain suddenly increased tenfold.
Opening her eyes with great difficulty, she looked up.
She could see a blurry image of Alexander, he was sitting beside her. Cupping her face, he was frantically calling her name. Her ears couldn't decipher what was being told to her.
Sapphire felt like she was going far away from the world, leaving everything behind.
She was dying.
She choked on her breathe.
"A-Alexander-r, I love you-u. P-please, d-don't f-forget m-me a-after my d-death." She whispered with great difficulty, slowly her voice was dying, pulling her into a dark bottomless abyss.
Sapphire didn't want him to forget her. If he forgot her, there would be no one to remember Sapphire and all she wanted to stay as a happy memory in his life.
Maybe there that's it, she found her love but wasn't fortunate enough to live with him.
