Chapter 44: Defiant Alpha

Enzo’s

I sat rigidly in the pack meeting, my arms tightly crossed, my jaw completely set, as the large room loudly buzzed with relentless whispers and constant sideways glances aimed at me.

Moses growled low and aggressively in my head, his restlessness perfectly matching my own internal turmoil. I couldn’t believe I had actually dragged myself all the way here for this ridiculous show—a bunch of old elders and weak pack members muttering like frightened cowards behind my back.

The air was thick and oppressive, filled with endless whispers, their eyes darting quickly to me, then nervously away again. I had absolutely endured enough of their cowardice. I slammed my fist hard on the table, the sharp sound echoing loudly, instantly silencing the entire room. “Have you got something important to say to your Alpha?” I shouted, standing up quickly, my eyes blazing a furious red. “Say it clearly to my face right now instead of whispering like spineless pups!”

An elder, old Marcus with his long gray beard, slowly stood up, clearing his throat nervously, his voice steady but still very hesitant. “Alpha Enzo,” he said, his eyes briefly meeting mine before looking away. “The pack has formally spoken. We have made a final decision that we no longer want you as our rightful Alpha.”

I laughed, the sound loud and sharp with disbelief, sitting back down slowly, my eyes scanning the faces of everyone in the room. “Is that truly so?” I said, my voice dripping with cold mockery. “You seriously think you can just vote me out of my rightful position? That’s hilarious and pathetic, Marcus. You’re acting like your statement is a real threat to me. Go on now, tell me—why do you honestly think you can successfully remove me from my power?”

A woman, Lila, stepped forward, her voice firm with resolve but trembling slightly with fear. “It’s not only about you anymore, Alpha,” she said, her eyes narrowing slightly. “It’s clearly about your mate. First, we thought we could handle accepting a human Luna. But now we know the truth? He’s not even fully human. He’s a Vengas. You know exactly what they are—dangerous, power-stealing threats to our entire kind. We absolutely can’t accept him into the pack, let alone as our future Luna.”

I growled deeply, my hands clenching into tight fists, Moses roaring in absolute fury inside my head. I stormed quickly toward her, my voice low and dangerous with controlled violence. “Who gave you the right to question the Moon Goddess’s choice of my mate?” I said, my eyes glowing bright red. “The Moon Goddess personally paired me with Noah. He’s mine to keep, and there’s absolutely no turning back on that fact now. You seriously think you can dictate who I choose to love and mate with?”

Marcus stepped forward quickly, his voice much louder and bolder. “Enzo, we all know the Goddess chose him for you,” he said firmly. “But a mate can be legally rejected if the pack officially refuses to accept them. Why haven’t you rejected the boy yet? He’s a Vengas! He could destroy every single one of us here!”

I froze in place, my heart pounding hard, my eyes sweeping over all the faces in the room. Fully half the pack was nodding their heads in agreement, their faces set and hard. “Reject Noah?” I said, my voice shaking violently with white-hot rage. “You’re all truly out of your minds with fear. I’m the Alpha here, Marcus. My father personally gave me this position, and not even you pathetic elders can take it away from me now. Noah’s my mate, Vengas or not, and he’s clearly not a danger to anyone!”

“How can you possibly say that ridiculous statement?” Lila snapped back instantly, stepping closer, her voice rising in pitch. “You personally saw what he did to Stan! He instantly drained his power with just a simple touch! That’s exactly what Vengas do to us, Enzo. How can you possibly still defend him now?”

I slammed my fist hard onto the table again, my voice coming out as a loud, feral growl. “Noah was merely defending himself from a deadly attack!” I shouted at the entire room. “Stan and Eric overtly tried to kill him first! You truly think I’m just gonna let you blame him for successfully fighting back to save his own life?”

“And what about the safety of the entire pack?” another elder, Clara, said immediately, her voice sharp with accusation. “We’re supposed to blindly trust and live beside a Vengas? What if he suddenly turns on you next, Alpha? On all of us? You’re recklessly putting every single member of this pack at extreme risk!”

I laughed loudly and defiantly, crossing my arms over my chest, my eyes intensely blazing. “You’re all desperately scared of a single human-looking boy who doesn’t even fully know what he truly is yet,” I said dismissively. “Noah is not a threat to anyone here. He’s my mate, and I will protect him fiercely from every single one of you if I absolutely have to go that far.”

“Protect him?” a cold, mocking voice instantly cut through the crowded room. I turned quickly, my blood instantly boiling, as Dean walked in slowly, his green eyes glinting triumphantly, his smug smirk wide and deliberate. “You’re protecting a true walking disaster, brother.”

I stood up immediately, chuckling darkly, my voice low and menacing. “Was this whole pathetic meeting your idea, Dean?” I said, stepping directly toward him. “This whole staged event? What exactly game are you playing with the pack now?”

Dean laughed loudly, his eyes locked firmly on mine. “No games at all, Enzo,” he said, his voice smooth but taunting. “Just simply trying to teach you a much-needed lesson you clearly missed. You’re far too blind and weak to see the devastating truth about your powerful mate.”

He turned immediately to face the gathered pack members, his voice loud and commanding. “Listen closely, everyone here!” he said forcefully. “I’ve been deeply victimized by his mate. My own mate, Stan, is a complete victim now. That Vengas, Noah, ruthlessly stole his entire power. My mate is lying there right now, barely even alive, weaker than the lowest omega, all because of Enzo’s so-called mate. Do you still honestly think he’s truly fit to remain your Alpha after this?”

I growled violently, instantly lunging forward, grabbing his shirt collar with fury, my voice a furious snarl. “What exactly are you planning to do, Dean?” I said, my eyes glowing bright red in warning. “You seriously think you can successfully turn the entire pack against me? Against Noah? You’re the very one who deliberately let Stan attack him in the first place!”

Dean shoved me back hard, his voice immediately rising in pitch. “I’m planning to successfully save this entire pack from disaster!” he said, his eyes flashing green with anger. “Noah’s a Vengas, Enzo. He’s extremely dangerous. And just like I previously told you, if Stan doesn’t wake up from his coma, I’ll personally kill Noah myself to save us all. That is my final, unbreakable promise to you.”

I moved incredibly fast, grabbing his throat tightly, pinning him brutally against the wall. “No one ever touches Noah!” I roared at him, my voice shaking the entire room with its intensity. “Not you, not anyone in this pack! You lay even one hand on him, and you’re absolutely dead, whether you’re my brother or not!”

Marcus immediately shouted, his voice desperately cutting through the roaring tension. “Enough of this fighting now!” he said, stepping forward. “Enzo, we’ve completely had it with your refusal! You either immediately step down as our Alpha, or you brutally kill that Vengas boy. Those are your only two choices now. The pack absolutely won’t stand for this danger any longer!”

I let go of Dean’s throat, my chest heaving with deep, ragged breaths, my eyes blazing with defiant fire. “You honestly think you can force me out of my rightful position?” I said, my voice low and lethally dangerous. “I’m the Alpha here. Noah’s my chosen mate. You don’t get to make these crucial decisions for me or the pack.”

Dean chuckled darkly, quickly stepping back, his eyes cold and unforgiving. “Then Noah officially dies,” he said, his voice final and unyielding. “You truly can’t protect him forever from all of us.”

Before I could lunge forward to attack him again, he quickly slipped out the main door, instantly gone in a flash of movement. The room immediately went silent, all the pack members’ eyes locked firmly on me, anxiously waiting to see what my next desperate move would be.
