Chapter 163 - Lycan Princes Slave Mate

KODA'S POV

Maddie was angrily shoving clothes into a bag while I sat in my stupid wheelchair and tried to convince her we'd be okay, but she was ignoring me.

''Would you help?'' I asked my brother, who came out of our walk-in, and threw two bags on the ground.

''I am helping'' He smirked ''I packed your clothes''

''I meant with Maddie''

''I know what you meant'' He rolled his eyes and opened one of Maddies drawers ''Here, sweetheart, take your mothers journals too, it'll distract you from, F*CK!''

Maddie dropped the dress she was holding and rushed out of the walk-in, looking frightened.

''What's wrong?' I asked, as I pushed the chair over to where he was standing and holding his hand.

''Something just burnt me!'' He complained ''Madelyn, what do you have in here?!''

She frowned in confusion and looked into the drawer ''Oh, it must have been my mothers necklace''

''The one you kept secret?'' I asked, as she reached into the drawer and pulled out a small bundle.

The second Jax and I saw the necklace, I felt a strange desire to touch it, to take it for my own.

''Cover it now!'' Jax shook his head and stepped back ''I don't know what that gem is, but it's messing with my head''

''Mine too'' I admitted ''Don't let us near it''

''Okay'' She looked nervous and quickly wrapped it up again, and tucked it back into the draw.

''No'' Jax shook his head ''Come with me and put it in our secret safe, I don't want anyone breaking in here and taking that, the power coming off that thing is incredible''

Jax and Maddie left the room for a few minutes, before coming back, Jax still looked as shaken as I felt and Maddie was worried.

''Here, let me heal your hand'' She led him over to a small fern and used it to heal him, before looking back at me ''I know yesterday, you said you didn't want me to heal you, but will you let me now?''

''I'm nearly healed, don't waste your energy''

''Please'' She pouted, with tears in her eyes, she'd tried that yesterday too, after we'd arrived home, but I told her not to worry about it as I was eager to sleep after the fight, but now, she was looking even sadder, so I finally gave in.

''Okay''

''Finally'' She celebrated and went over to another plant.

After I was healed, and I gave a good stretch and stood up ''Thanks'' I kissed her cheek ''About that necklace, we don't want you messing with it until we know why Jax and I reacted that way, there's something strange about it''

''Okay'' She nodded ''If you let me come with you''

''Just go finish packing'' Jax laughed as he looked down at his healed hand.

She crossed her arms angrily and glared at him ''At least let me have a say in who comes with me to this, oh, so wonderful beach''

''You don't know anyone'' I pointed out.

''I want Noland to come''

Jax and I both looked at each other for a moment, as jealousy filled my entire body.

''Why?!'' Jaxson asked angrily.

''Because, if he is my Keeper, then I want to get to know him'' She told us ''Plus, I have questions and this could be the perfect time to get my answers, and you know he's a good fighter, you even said so, he saved you during the fight''

''Fine'' I agreed ''But if he hits on you, you will tell Evet, and she will send him home''

''I will'' She smiled, and returned to her walk-in to finish packing.

''I don't like this'' Jax linked me.

''I know, me either, but we have to trust her''

''How can you be so casual at the thought of losing her?''

''Because we're not losing her, not to anyone, she loves us, Noland's just some stupid pathetic trainer who's been fed bullsh*t his whole life about Keepers hooking up with their Phoenix's'' I pointed out ''But this Phoenix is ours, so he can f*ck off''

''I hope this doesn't come back to bite us in the a*s!'' Jax shook his head, and walked up to Maddie who was reaching for a jumper on a high shelf. Jax stood behind her and grabbed it for her, and she turned and smiled at me, as she took it.

''Thanks, I think this should be enough'' She announced and zipped up her second bag ''I don't know what to pack for a vacation at the beach'' He said that last part with detest, but we ignored it.

''Let's get everything in the car'' I grabbed mine and Jaxson's bag's as he picked up Maddies ''You will come with us to the camp, so it looks like you're coming with us, if Fenrir or Kenan have spy's in our pack, word will get back to them, they won't know you've slipped away''

''So we can spend the night together?''

''Yes'' Jax answered.

Jax kept Maddie occupied with small tasks after we reached the camp site, they helped set up the tents, and do some food prep, while I went around the warriors picking the ones I knew were loyal, and telling them to meet me in the morning by a grouping of trees, and warned them if they spoke a word about this to anyone, I'd kill them.

The only one I had difficulty speaking to, was Noland, I told him the truth that Maddie was being hidden away and he seemed extremely pleased that she'd asked for him personally, which made me want to rip his face off, but I held it together, and very immaturally responded by walking over to my mate and pulled her in, and kissing her passionately.

Maddie was breathless by the time I'd released her and when I turned back to Noland, he was glaring at me with rage in his eyes, before he turned and went over to the nearest fire where some spears were being forged.

When night fell, Maddie's happy mood started decreasing, and she wasn't talking much, we were sitting with the troops around the fire while we ate dinner, but she just picked at her food, moving it around the plate, until finally I couldn't handle it.

I stood up and reached out to her ''Come for a walk with me'' I ordered.

''Hold up'' Jax pulled her into a hug ''This is our last night with her for a while, you don't get to hog her''

''Fine'' I rolled my eyes ''We each get an hour alone, and then meet up in the tent''

Evet laughed and shook her head ''She's not a toy to be past around''

''Eat your food'' Jax ordered, and let Maddie go ''One hour!''

Maddie kissed his cheek, and passed him over her plate of food, which he started eating, and she reached up to take my hand.

I knew this area of the woods well, and I thought of a way to cheer her up, if only temporary.

Maddie was still silent as we walked through the woods for the next twenty minutes, but I placed my arm over her shoulders and pulled her in to try and comfort her.

''It's going to be okay'' I whispered and kissed her head.

''Stop saying that'' She complained ''I'm sick of hearing that everything's going to be okay''

''Sit down'' I ordered, as I sat down in a clearing in the woods, by one of the rivers.

Maddie looked around in confusion for a moment, before sitting in front of me, I pulled her back up against my chest, and held her.

''I don't want you to be upset''

''Then don't go''

''I have no choice'' I pressed my face into her soft hair and took a deep comforting breath of her delicious scent ''I would give anything to stay right here, like this, with you, but I can't''

''You or Jax could die''

''We could'' I acknowledged ''But we will have each other's back, and I swear to you, that at least one of is coming back to you''

Maddie started crying and turned in my arms ''I don't want one of you, I want both''

I smiled and pulled her back into a hug as she cried on my shoulder ''Shh, don't worry about tomorrow, enjoy tonight, and I have a surprise that might cheer you up''

''What?'' She leaned back and wiped her cheeks.

I smiled and raised my hands to the river, and one by one, hundreds or tiny firefly's fly up into the night's sky and formed a canopy above us.

''I forgot that you'd told me you could control animals'' She said in awe as she looked at the canopy of fireflies ''What else can they do''

We watched the fireflies for a about half an hour or so, I enjoyed making them move around in sinc, making the twirl around above us as if dancing on the wind. She loved watching them, but my eyes were fixed on her, she was so beautiful when she smiled, but then her face looked thoughtful.

''What?''

''The boys, the ones from that dream or what it was'' She said as she looked back at me ''The twin with white hair had a love for animals, he might have gotten that from you, which means, you survive this fight, and getting stabbed''

''As much as I'd love to believe that'' I touched her face ''I'm not the only one in the family who could control animals, the only thing we know for sure, is that Jax comes home to you, and as long as he's alive, I know you'll be safe''

''You both have to come home to me''

I reached out and touched her face ''I'll try'' I told her ''I love you Maddie, meeting you, loving you, you've made me feel whole, and I will love you until the day I die, and probably beyond that''

I pulled her in and kissed her, as I slowly pushed her down onto her back.

''Koda wait'' Maddie pushed against my chest.

''Why?''

''Send them away'' She gestured to the firefly's and we both looked up at them ''It feels like they're perving on us''

I laughed and looked back at her ''Let them watch''

''No'' She giggled and put her hand on my face, to stop me from kissing her ''You're controlling them, it's creepy to force them to stay and watch us''

I laughed again as I let the control go and the firefly's started to disperse, but when I reached down to kiss Maddie again, I heard someone clear their throat.

Sh*t.. I looked up to see my brother leaning against a tree with his arms crossed.

''Excuse me'' Jax said in a fake upset tone ''But your hour is up''

''No it's not'' I frowned and looked at my watch ''Oh, cr*p''

''I guess you shouldn't have wasted your time showing her bugs''

''Give me your hour'' I pleaded ''You got to spend last night with her''

''Nope'' Jax smiled brightly, making me want to punch him ''My turn''

''Or'' Maddie reached up her hand towards Jax ''You could share''
