Right decision on a whim

Shyla’s P.O.V.

My burning glare fell on Maddox as I didn’t hold back and said,

“You meticulously planned everything, only thinking about yourself. Your enemy, your life, your decision to continue mate-bond. All is about you. What I think or feel was never a part of your plan, Maddox.

When you don’t even consider me, a human being living with you, there’s no need for fighting. Lifeless articles can be discarded easily after use.”

The whirlwind of fury destroyed my world in its wake as loving him wholeheartedly felt like a mistake. Thankfully, it wasn’t too late to correct it. So, I took a life-changing decision on a whim, driven by my messed-up emotions and shouted,

“As you think everything revolves around the mighty King Maddox Miller, you should live with your harem ladies. Those spineless ladies will worship you like a god, and even try to kiss your ass all the time.

So, you are free from my side, Alpha Maddox! All my promises are null and void!”

A sharp stab of pain made me whimper as the stinging pain ached my chest, I had to bite my tongue to halt a scream. Ash howled dolefully as Maddox clutched his chest and gasped, he could also feel the effect of my indirect rejection.

He parted his lips to speak, but nothing came out of his mouth. So, I announced my decision firmly,

“I can’t live with a self-centered man like you, Maddox. I am leaving with my son. And remember one thing ...”

I turned to leave and said, “It’s not a curse or magic. I am leaving because you stabbed me in my back.

You can blame anyone you want, but the problem is with you. You aren’t a trustworthy person. And there’s no relationship without trust, Maddox.”

With that, I covered my face and ran out of the living room, the tears streaming down my cheeks burned my soul with grief. My love, my happiness, my trust, all was gone, deserting my heart. I didn’t even know whom to trust anymore.

I heard Prince Edith’s yelling from behind when he offered me to go with him as Alpha King and the entire pack was waiting for me, painting it as my home.

My home?

Nope!

I made a beautiful, warm home with Maddox to live with my mate for the rest of my life, built on love and trust. But he didn’t hesitate to shatter it with dishonesty. There wasn’t a piece of land where I belonged now.

After checking on sleeping Marcel, I retrieved a bag from the cupboard and started stuffing my son’s clothes to leave. But where?

I didn’t know.

I just know that I wanted to go far away where Maddox couldn’t find me, so I could hide my sorry face there for the rest of my life. I, Shyla Alford, always considered myself so smart that no one would be able to take advantage of me, and here I was, heartbroken and betrayed twice before turning twenty.

I was cursing my idiocy while packing when the scent of peppermint assaulted my senses, accompanied by the familiar warmth of Maddox’s body. He was aware that I loved his body heat as it made me feel alive, that was why he was standing so close to me.

However, the indifference of his voice broke my trance as he said,

“You are not leaving, and that’s final, Kitten.”

“What?” I was taken aback by his audacity, “You have dictated my life for so long, Maddox. But I will not allow you to take my decisions now. Don’t even think about stopping me.”

Maddox’s low, throaty growl rippled through my bones as he grasped my wrist and threw me against the cupboard, my back hit the cold hardness as he snarled at me,

“You want to shift the blame on me when I did everything for you, Kitten. You were perfectly happy before knowing this shit, and look at you now, all crying and fussing over the lost cause.

Fine!

If you want to leave, go. But Marcel will not go with you.”

His outrageous statement rumbled a volcano of fury in my chest, its molten lava burned us both as I shot back at him.

“Marcel is my son, not yours. So, he will stay with me. And if you try to blackmail me with my baby, I will not hesitate to reject you ...”

As soon as the word of rejection rolled out of my tongue, I regretted it, this was never my intention to ever reject him. But before I could say otherwise, Maddox’s powerful punch landed right beside my head on the cupboard, leaving a hole in it. He roared in fury,

“So, it’s all about that werewolf bastard. You have changed your heart after seeing your young promise mate. That’s what it’s all about.”

Fuck!

Maddox’s out of the world reasoning made me roll my eyes at him, I couldn’t help but push him away.

“Slander me all you want, but it will not change the fact that ...”

He didn’t let me complete my sentence and, in a jerk, my hands were pinned above my heads, rendering me speechless. Maddox’s tall figure towered over me as he leaned in and spoke dangerously.

“It is well in my abilities to keep you at my castle without any inconvenience, Kitten. In fact, it will be much more fun to simply rip that bastard’s head away and enjoy your submission.”

His warm lips gently brushing over my mark made me shudder, sinking my heart. Maddox’s concealed warning was enough to terrorize me. He was right, I couldn’t fight against my Alpha mate despite being an Alpha, he could easily force me to submission.

My heart raced like a galloping horse in my chest as Maddox straightened up and trailed the back of his hand on my face, speaking in a low, firm tone.

“But I love you, Kitten. No matter how hard it is to let you go, I will respect your wishes and give you some space.

You have three days to calm down, then we’ll talk again. And if you don’t agree to come back to me after that ...”

Maddox’s pitch-black orbs prickled goosebumps over my skin as he growled, his inhumane voice vouched for his determination,

“Trust me, Kitten. I won’t even flinch before turning my threat into reality.”

...

Blimey!

Ash was still whimpering in my head, although we were on a plane to Alpha Kings’ pack, Maddox’s bossy behavior scared the hell out of us. He gave me his platinum cards to stay at a decent hotel and sent Marcel’s nanny to keep an eye on me. I couldn’t even protest that I didn’t need his charity.

It was so difficult to keep my mouth shut and leave with Prince Edith. He offered me a ride off the island when Maddox refused to let me use any of his resources. He was deliberately stalling time to stop me, but I didn’t give in to his trickery.

However, there was a price to pay for it!

Sitting by my side, Prince Edith was speaking nonstop like a chatterbox, his enthusiastic tone annoyed me.

“I was certain that you would pick your family over that bloodthirsty monster, Shyla. Your dad is eager to meet you. He asks me daily about your arrival. I am so glad that he will see you now.”

Prince Edith had mind-blowing stamina of speaking for hours as he didn’t stop for a second, bombarding me with the information regarding the royal Palace. It was noticeable that werewolves still had the system of royalty when their bloodline wasn’t in power.

Honestly speaking, I wasn’t ready to meet anyone right now, as my mind was occupied by the dilemmas of my life. It was impossible for me to believe that Maddox was such an insensitive man. After doing so much, he didn’t even accept his mistake, defending his twisted methods over and over again.

And then, he accused me of being swayed by a mere stranger.

Didn’t he know that he was the only man in my heart? The one I had sworn to be with?

Then why couldn’t he consider my feelings and show remorse? Was it too much to ask for?

My mind was stuck in our detailed arguments when the plane landed at the airport, the crowd gathered to welcome me there baffled me. Holding Marcel closer to my chest, I gawked at the airport staff, security guards, and a sea of commoners dressed in pretty clothes like it was a festival, they all bowed before me.

“Welcome home, Alpha.”

Their exhilarated howls echoed in the surroundings, announcing the return of their leader. I was still processing the shock of greetings when a solemn voice slithered into my ears.

“Finally, you are home, my princess.”

One glance at the authoritative man standing before me, and I was alerted. It turned out that my decision to come here was right ...
