The Void She Left Behind

Gabriel POV:

I felt the sudden emptiness in my arms and my eyelids snapped open. I quickly scanned my surroundings but she was nowhere in range.

Where was Luna? The question echoed through me. I rose to my feet at once and ran out of the cave.

"Luna?" I called out, my voice tinged with worry, expecting a reply that never came.

I made a frantic search through the forest but saw nothing. I screamed angrily my thunderous voice met only by silence, the emptiness swallowing my words like a hungry abyss.

I felt a chill sweep through me, born not just from the cool morning air but from the rising fear that Luna was nowhere to be found. I cursed myself under my breath, how could she have stood up beside me without waking up?

My steps grew frantic as I ransacked the vicinity. Every rustle of leaves, sounds of broken twigs under my footsteps, and every whisper of the morning breeze seemed to mock my futile efforts. I called out her name again and again, my voice quivering with anxiety, but the forest replied to me with absolute silence.

I couldn't comprehend how she had disappeared so completely without leaving any sign behind as if the forest itself had conspired to claim her.

As I scoured the surroundings, my mind raced with questions, each one more desperate than the last. Had something terrible befallen her? Is she hurt, is she in danger? Did someone snatch her from right beside me while I was fast asleep?

The guilt crushed me even harder, but having no idea where she was was killing me faster.

I suddenly felt something amiss, my hands drifted slowly to my belt, and realized what else was missing, Her dagger!

I finally understood what had happened, she wasn't taken nor was she abducted. She had left me behind and I know why, I should have foreseen this with her wistfulness on the boat. She thinks it's all her fault, I should have done a better job convincing it wasn't. Now, I have to find her before she ends up in danger, Luckily I also know where she she is headed.

The void left by her absence was overwhelming, a gaping hole in my world that had opened up and threatened to swallow me whole.

It was in these tense moments that I realized how much she had come to mean to me. I was puzzled, my whole life I had built a cold wall around me, refusing anyone to get through. How could this woman mean so much to me within a short span?

My anxiety mounted, and it was then that a sinking realization settled in, I was falling in love with her. I tried to convince myself it wasn't so, but the feeling lingered. Why else would I care if she lived or died? Why do I care so much if she is safe or in danger? The more I deny the truth, the more apparent it got.

I had to find her, no matter the cost. She needed me, as much as I needed her.
