Chapter 157 An emergency?
Melissa sat cross legged in front of the reporters and she smiled awkwardly. The news would start in a minute and they would be on air soon. Melissa, Avalors and Beatrice were the one seated directly in front of the entire reporters. Margaret was among the guests, and there were a total of twenty guests allowed. Most of them were regional leaders Melissa had met sharing their last meeting and two of them were Hance and Arya.
They were both accompanied by Jacob and two other mean looking people. Jacob has taken his job as a bodyguard way more seriously than Melissa had expected. She'd solved the entire situation with the ambassadors with Jacob. He'd followed them all the way to the councilors and he'd told them off that he was the king and if he decided to stay in Dunham a little longer than normal it was his choice.
Hance had sent most of them home. Though the three that had tried to kill him were not around anymore and when he'd asked of them, they'd slyly lied that they'd gone to Vance on an emergency. Hance didn't push it at all and he'd left for Melissa's news report without a word.
They couldn't do anything due to Jacob's smart decision of carrying an entire Sentinel division with him. A sign of showing that the queen of Dunham is taking their safety into condition. It worked well in the long run and it made Melissa pleased with herself. All that was left were those feeds and this news and also the infernal. He was still laying there unconscious.
Nathaniel told Melissa that it seemed he'd hibernated. His wounds were healing albeit slowly and he was also oozing out a yellow kind of pus. Though he was still conducting a test to know what the pus actually contained. His condition wasn't also really understandable as he was a bit different. Nathaniel said he had two beating hearts, an anomaly that had surprised even Beatrice and Margaret. Both of them were astonished by the discovery of such “abomination," as Avalors called it.
Avalors hated such things, inexplicable concepts that always seemed to just defy logic. Though Margaret reminded him that werewolves too were logic defiant to another species of creatures. He remained adamant though it was hard for him to change that view of the world.
Though all these were not really the real deal on Melissa's mind. Her main trouble was what Richard had asked her in the toilet. She knew he was just looking out for her but she couldn't help but think that maybe he thought about it too once in a while. Melissa felt the mark tugged at her waist, and she almost swore out loud. She couldn't really blame him if it was her, she would be dead worried. A mark of bonding wasn't a little thing, it was a bond that marked two wolves as lovers forever, whether they were mates or not. The mark had also been rumored to bring the two wolves together no matter how far they drifted.
Even if most of the things about it were just hypotheses and fallacies, Melissa still couldn't help but feel weird about it. She didn't like seeing it or feeling it. She could only imagine how Richard would be feeling everytime he sets his eyes on it. What was actually tugging her the most though was the fact that she'd not thought about how he felt about it at all. She'd convinced herself that he accepted it and just moved on but now she knew otherwise and she understood why. With that mark on her body, they could never truly be lovers, they could be mates but never lovers. All they would be able to do was sneak around and kiss in the toilet. They'd never be able to make their love known as it was a gross sin to have a lover besides the one who marked you.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Josephine Chase and we live from the grand palace of Dunham… “ the chief news reporter started the meeting, her voice nudging Melissa out of her ocean of thoughts.
The reporters questioned them and most of the time, the question was answered by Avalors or Beatrice, she just sat down smiling and waving. After a while though, the actual questions started to come up and at last a question was directly thrown at her.
“Your majesty," the reporter said. “Do you have anything to say about the videos that have been circulating on the net for a few days now. Is there any truth about it or is it as a few among us believe, nothing but a sham.” The reporter sat down afterwards and crossed her leg.
Melissa cleared her throat before speaking. “First off I'd like to say a little hello to everyone, I haven't been given a chance to speak by my loyal court," she said and the halls gasped.
She'd been throwing around the word court like it held no meaning, but in Dunham, court meant the most trusted allies but it also meant that there were others who couldn't be trusted. “The video was actually real,"she continued, as the crowd murmured. “But unfortunately, I am not a witch, I am just one of those werewolves with an innate ability. One that is not so common in fact. An innate ability rivaling even that of the Demon wolf, “ she stopped talking she created the suspense just as Beatrice had taught her.
" Can we know its name?" The same reporter asked out of curiosity. Melissa smiled, she had them all under her grasp. Normally, she'd thought hiding her abilities was the best way to rule, but her court had reminded her people love power and kindness, she needed to show she was both wrapped up into one. She had to cement that she was a Luna of Fate thereby securing her prominence.
Melissa thought for a while then looked down. “Right now, I call it the presence but in ancient times it was called The Aura!" The entire hall went silent.
