Chapter 118 - LUNA'S BAGGAGE
Asher
"How could you guys start the party without me?" An unfamiliar voice spoke at the same time as me. Dread, that is the only thing I felt as the man took slow deliberate steps towards us. Even though his voice wasn't familiar, I had seen his picture too many times to not know who it was, and from the sharp intake of air from the person at my side, I knew it wasn't just me that had recognized him. After all, there were so many pictures of him floating around.
For a fugitive, he seemed to love the camera a little too much if you ask me. He walked right into the line of view as if afraid that he would not be seen clearly enough. "Dr. Hann! Dr. Hann! It is you, right? What are you doing here?" With renewed vigor, the journalists began pushing Jeremy and Timothy away. Some went as far as setting up their bigger cameras. "Dr. Hann, is it true that you can turn into an animal? Was it some sort of camera trick?" Oh yeah, the infamous shifting video. How had he let himself get captured on camera?
I was growling before I could stop myself. The gasps from the reporters made it clear that I had just proved the freak rumors. Way to go, Asher, there was no going back from here. One person spoke to their audience about my animalistic growl, citing it as proof that the viral video was in fact true. He also added that they were putting their lives at risk and maybe being mauled by us at any given time.
I could hear the cameras shattering away, but all that wasn't important right now. The last thing we needed was for anyone to be scared of us. We were supposed to prove that we posed no harm to humans, but they were already painting us as dangerous creatures. I was more concerned about our unwanted guest. "What are you doing here? Where have you been all this while?" To be honest, I really wanted to know where he had been hiding all this while. None of my people could find him anywhere.
How had he gotten into my pack without anyone noticing? I very quickly answered that question. After traveling with Timothy, I was well aware of this man's medical inventions. How long had he been around? I have wished on several occasions to find and teach this man a lesson, and the last thing I expected was for him to swagger into my pack as if we were on good terms. He handed himself on a platter, knowing there was nothing I could do to him. So close, yet so far away.
He only smiled at me before turning to Timothy. "Timothy my man, it is so nice to see you again. It's been a while since we shut down Angel's clinic. What have you been up to? Did you find another job?" The smile on his face and his friendly tone spelled trouble.
Oh, Oh! It didn't take a genius to know what would happen next. "Is this what you people mean by saving poor women from the clutches of a monster?" To an outsider, the way Dr. Hann had spoken to Timothy was an indication that they were on good terms, I mean, they used to be until he started working with me, but they didn't know that. Angel's clinic was now well known, thanks to Alison and me, we had also told them how Dr. Hann had gotten rid of it. Only for him to show up and make it known to everyone that they used to work together. Where did that leave me, seeing as Timothy was on our side? Didn't that make me guilty by association?
"Dr. Hann! Watch what you're saying!" He was obviously here to cause us trouble. There was something about his timing that was a little too unsettling. No one would be able to convince me that all of this was a coincidence. Dr. Hann has been missing since he took off on the helicopter the day he killed my daughter. If he was interested in this reunion thing, he should have stayed behind on that day. See if he would still be alive and breathing before me right now. I had dreamed of so many different ways I could end his life at first sight, but in the end, I couldn't do it.
The smirk on his face made my fists itch. "What? Can't I check on my lovely assistant? I haven't seen him since I asked him to take care of the clinic." Every word that came out of his mouth was as if he was digging our grave even deeper. He may have been doing this to get revenge on Alison, Timothy, and me, but what about the other werewolves?
The journalists jumped at this new piece of information just like I knew you would. "Did you really rescue those women? From what we see, the evil doctor and you guys seem to be working together. Was this some sort of ploy? Why are you guys lying to the public? Did the deal go sour so you people had a fallout?" It had suddenly gone from kidnappings and forcefully breeding to a petty revenge plot.
Weren't they scared we were going to maul them? I could not count how many times either a camera or a microphone had hit me in the face since Dr. Hann's suggestive statement. "None of us works with the psycho." I knew that my attempt at denying our association would not bear any results, but I couldn't just sit quietly while they grouped me with a man I wished I could strangle with my own hands.
They looked at me as if I had said the most ridiculous thing they had ever heard, before one of them retorted, "How is that possible? Did he just call this man his assistant?" I didn't even want to imagine what the comments on the live stream were saying. The attention that we wanted had turned into a double-edged sword.
"You guys should..."
I didn't get to finish my sentence before a member of the border patrol interrupted me. "Alpha Asher! Alpha Asher! The council members are back! They are requesting an audience." Fuvk my life! Today is definitely not my day. What more could go... no! The day was already messed up as it were, I didn't need to cuss at it. I am not sure if I could handle any more surprises.
"I will be right there," If I didn't know they hadn't left, I would have said it was a coincidence that they showed up right at that moment. They were obviously waiting for something to happen. I turned back to the reporter. "You guys should leave, I have something to take care of." Freaking Martin, I knew he was keeping tabs on me.
Did they leave? No, not even a step. "You go do what you need to do. We will not go until we get that interview." He sounded so magnanimous as if he was doing me a favor. One thing was for sure, they didn't want to leave. There goes my wish of hoping that they would at least be understanding. As if I would let random people roam around my pack. I didn't trust them not to leave hidden cameras all over. Was their insistence really for just an interview or was there more? I voted for the latter. It was clear that they were hoping to get
"Train driver, make sure you take all of them back to where you got them, and you, bring Dr. Hann with you." It was good that the train hadn't left. Time to make payment for all the juicy gossip he had consumed. Can you imagine he was sitting on the train watching us get at it?
"Where are you taking me? Are you guys trying to silence me? THIS IS ILLEGAL DETENTION!" Dr. Hann hadn't even been touched but he was already screaming at the top of his lungs. The public opinion we wanted to use against him was currently being used against me. "Don't let them take me, I will die if they do. They are going to kill me." His crying was so convincing that the reporters became even more aggressive with me.
Dr. Hann has to be the luckiest person ever. Once again, he slipped right through my fingers. "We will leave, but, we are taking him with us." I watched enraged as Dr. Hann failed at hiding the smile on his face. I swear if I see him again, I will not care whether we are surrounded by a group of people or not. It sucked that I could not get revenge for Joy today. I was forced to watch as he got onto the train, cowering in fake fear. Why was he even a doctor? With such skill, he could win an actor's award.
The psycho doctor was gone again. This time he had been protected by a group of reporters. I was sure they would continue to interview him along the way, but I could not care what they would talk about because there was a thorn in my side that I needed to deal with. "Let us go and hear what the old man has to say." I only spoke after making sure the train was long gone.
I only turned back to walk into the pack when I was sure the train was already far gone. Is it bad that I wished for the train to derail? Dr. Hann had become unpredictable, not that he was predictable before, but right now I could not tell what was on his mind. He didn't even seem sorry to have been discovered shifting. What was his plan?
"Asher, I am sorry," Timothy mumbled, as we walked back. The tide had changed because of him. I had never considered that making him a pack official would cause me such trouble. His efficiency had impressed me so much that I never thought about what anyone would say when they found out he used to work with Dr. Hann before.
"It is alright, we will figure out how to explain everything." While Dr. Hann was proudly introducing himself as Timothy's boss. Did he know that he had killed his mate? I was tempted to say he knew what he had done, and the only reason he dared to parade himself before us after causing us such devastating losses was that he wanted us to have violent reactions.
Martin's hand was broken as soon as I got to the meeting hall. Not even my father raised his hands against me. "You will not be proud for long!"
