Chapter 303 Cole's Ultimatum
Chapter 303 Cole's Ultimatum
POV: Luna
The training had been going on for three weeks when Cole made his move.
We were in the middle of morning drills. The whole pack was together. My four mates were working on coordinated attacks. Everything felt almost normal.
Then the sky darkened.
Not clouds. Not weather. Pure magical darkness spreading across Silverwood like someone had drawn a curtain over the sun.
"Luna Eclipse," Cole's voice echoed from everywhere and nowhere. "We need to talk."
Through my Eclipse mark, I felt the entity react. It recognized Cole's hybrid energy. Half human consciousness, half artifact power. The combination made him stronger than anything we'd prepared for.
"Show yourself," I called out. My mates moved closer protectively.
Liam shifted partially. His Alpha authority flared. "Whatever you want, the answer is no."
Cole's shadow materialized in the center of the training grounds. Not fully physical. Not quite ghost. Something in between that made my skin crawl.
He looked different than before. The artifact merger had changed him. His eyes glowed with otherworldly light. His form flickered between solid and transparent.
"I'm not here to fight," Cole said calmly. "I'm here to offer you a choice."
"We don't want anything from you," Caleb said. Miguel's memories made him tense. He'd seen Cole do this before. Offer choices that weren't really choices at all.
Cole smiled. "You should hear me out. I'm offering to spare everyone you love."
That got my attention. Through the pack bonds, I felt everyone go still.
"What do you mean?" I asked carefully.
"Convergence is coming," Cole said. "Nothing you do will stop it. The prophecy is already fulfilled. Four bonds complete. Structure whole. You are the catalyst whether you choose to be or not."
He moved closer. My mates bristled but didn't attack.
"But I can control how it happens," Cole continued. "I can make the transition smooth. Painless. Everyone you care about survives. They adapt to the new reality. They thrive in the unified existence."
"Or?" I knew there was an or.
"Or I let convergence happen naturally. Chaotically. Most people die. Reality tears apart violently. Your mates, your pack, everyone at Silverwood suffers through the worst possible version of what's coming."
Through all four mate bonds, I felt their reactions. Liam wanted to attack. Caleb was analyzing for tricks. Hunter stayed quiet but alert. Darius was calculating odds.
"What do you want in exchange?" I asked.
"Simple cooperation," Cole said. "Stop resisting. Let me use you as the catalyst willingly. Make the process smooth instead of fighting every step. That's all."
"That's not all," the princess said. She and Selene had moved up beside me. "You want her to give up free will. To become a tool you control."
Cole shrugged. "I want her to accept the inevitable. Fighting costs lives. Cooperation saves them. It's simple math."
"It's not inevitable," I said. Grandmother's letter had taught me that. "The prophecy is conditional. Convergence CAN happen. But it's not guaranteed. We still have choice."
Cole's expression darkened. "You're clinging to false hope. Your grandmother tried the same thing. It killed her."
"She died proving there's another way," I shot back. "She chose love over fear. Choice over destiny. That's what I'm choosing too."
"Then you're choosing to watch everyone you love die," Cole said coldly. "Because I'm done being patient."
The darkness around us intensified. I felt the portal opening. Felt otherworld energy flooding through. Felt Cole's power multiplying.
"You have three days," Cole said. "Three days to decide. Cooperate willingly and save everyone. Or resist and watch them suffer through the worst convergence possible."
"We'll never cooperate with you," Liam snarled.
Cole looked at him with something like pity. "Then I'll see you in three days. At the portal. Where we'll settle this permanently."
He vanished. The darkness lifted. But the threat remained heavy in the air.
Through the pack bonds, I felt everyone processing. Three days wasn't much time. But it was something.
"We don't have to decide alone," Nova said. "The alliances we built. The training we did. We're ready for this."
"Are we though?" Aria asked quietly. "Cole just offered to spare everyone if Luna cooperates. That's not a small thing."
"It's also probably a lie," Caleb said. "Cole doesn't spare people. He uses them. Cooperation means giving him everything he wants with no guarantee he'll keep his word."
Through my Eclipse mark, the entity pulsed. It was trying to tell me something.
I focused inward. The entity showed me a vision. Cole's version of "smooth convergence" wasn't painless. It was controlled. He would decide who adapted and who didn't. Who lived in the new reality and who was erased.
"He's lying," I said out loud. "The entity shows me the truth. His smooth convergence means he picks who survives. He controls everything. It's not saving everyone. It's giving him total power over existence."
Through all four mate bonds, I felt their relief. They'd been worried I might actually consider it.
"So we fight," Liam said simply.
"We fight," I agreed.
The princess stepped forward. "Then we use these three days wisely. We warn everyone. We gather the alliances. We prepare for the biggest battle Silverwood has ever seen."
She was right. Three days to prepare. Three days to rally everyone. Three days before Cole came for me.
Three days to prove that love was stronger than fear. That choice mattered more than destiny. That free will could change everything.
No pressure. Just three days to save reality itself.
