Chapter 10 Ancient Tongue
Lina's POV
“What the hell was that?” Noel managed to ask but before I could get to say a word, I suddenly slumped and fell to the ground.
I was unconsciously lying stretched out on the floor, while every other person in the room was left in confusion.
I tried to wake up but I couldn't, it seems like something was holding me back from coming back to life.
Then suddenly, I felt something jolting out of my body, as if my spirit was rising from my body.
I can feel it very much like myself, I wasn't mistaken. It really felt like something was being lifted off my body.
Then slowly, I stood up only to turn and see my physical form still stretched out on the floor.
I looked around the room but nobody noticed my presence, they were all focused on something else.
They weren't seeing me.
I turned and saw Kate trembling, tears were gathered in her eyes, they were clinging to her lashes, ready to drop.
Noel on the other hand was kneeling next to my physical form, gently shaking me as if he was trying to bring back a dying person.
My eyes darted towards Father Eron, and I wasn't surprised to see him clutching onto the rosary around his neck, silently whispering some prayers.
Next was the Revealer, she was the only one who didn't seem to flinch. She sat calmly on her chair, staring up at the ceiling, as if she was reading signs from an ancient wall.
I slowly took a step forward, only for a door to appear before me.
The soft creak of the door sent shivers down my spine, as it slowly opened, glowing faintly with bright light.
The door was calling for me.
For the first time, I felt no fear at all, just an invisible pull, welcoming me to go into the opened door.
I glanced back at everyone for the last time, staring at my physical form on the floor without stirring.
Then slowly I stepped into the unknown, and the door slammed shut behind me, vanishing into the thin air.
I found myself in another world, a world where humans were like infants. They were living beings in human form but they weren't acting like humans.
They were full grown adults, they were crawling around, they weren't walking with their legs like humans do—they crawled like animals.
I watched as the human-like figures crawled around, handling their various businesses as if everything was normal.
I was confused about where I was, and most importantly what am I doing amidst these crawlers.
“Who are these people? Why are they crawling around?”
All of these questions lingered in my mind but I've got answers to none of them.
I began to look around nervously, observing the oddity of the sudden world I found myself in.
Just as I was about to take a step forward, everyone began to hurry away, crawling very fast towards a particular direction.
It seems like they were running away from something, something very sinister.
The ones that couldn't crawl fast enough, got a helping hand from others and within a minute the whole place was clear, nobody was left outside.
They all crawled into their homes.
I was the only one left outside standing.
It was as if someone or something was coming.
Surprisingly, I wasn't scared.
Then I began to hear sounds of a wild storm tearing closer.
I narrowed my eyes to confirm what it was that the crawlers ran away from, only to see something like flames roaring towards my direction.
It was a storm but it was made of pure fire, more like a firestorm.
The fire storm was devouring everything in its path as it rolled towards me.
A voice suddenly echoed from nowhere and everywhere.
“Run, Lina. Run!” the hoarse-like voice whispered from nowhere in particular.
I stared ahead of me again, and the fire storm was still approaching with an amount of speed I couldn't have imagined.
This was when I thought of running, but the moment I lifted my feet to run, I couldn't get to run. It was as if someone was pulling me down from below, holding me still so I couldn't lift a foot.
I turned around but I didn't see anyone.
I attempted to run again, but I couldn't, the unseen force kept holding me still, so I couldn't move an inch away from where I stood.
Then there were multiple whispers from different angles, they were all screaming the same thing; “Run, Lina. Run!”
But I couldn't run.
The firestorm was still approaching with a lot of force and fury.
I tried to run again, but my legs wouldn't obey. It was like invisible chains were tied around my ankles so I wouldn't move.
The fire roared even closer, ready to devour me.
I closed my eyes and calmly waited for it to consume me but the moment it came just close to me, close enough to devour me. It suddenly stopped and it circled around me, leaving me untouched in the center.
I slowly opened my eyes and saw the roaring fire circling around me, fighting to consume me, but it couldn't. It seems like something was holding it from getting close to me—like an invisible glass has just formed around me, surrounding me, and protecting me from the angry flames.
I could sense the heat of the flames as it circled around me, but I didn't feel anything.
It wasn't me holding the flames back, but something was doing it for me, probably an unseen force.
I thought the fire was going to burn me but not even a single spark of it touched my skin.
My body instantly went stiff as my eyes hovered around the walls of flames swirling around me.
My skin seems to enjoy the heat radiating from the fire, yet it didn't hurt or burn me.
My heart began to beat faster than normal, but something inside of me kept me calm and unaffected.
Then suddenly, my lips began to move. I began to whisper strange words in a language I didn't even underrated.
It was an unconscious act, I didn't know how I was able to say it, but the incantation was flowing smoothly out of my mouth.
“Velistra, Don’theos Eraziel!” I chanted at the top of my voice.
