Chapter 26 — Thoughts

Lucifer:

“I’m sorry, Gabriel, but I don’t remember much about my sisters. Even in my visions, their faces were obscured by shadows. I don’t even know their human names. I just referred to them by their horsemen names. All I can tell you is that they were close to my age. The other had brown hair and oddly shaded eyes, and the other had red hair. The only thing they had in common is that they all seemed to be frightened of someone who wanted to hurt them. I don’t remember anything else. I’m sorry,”

Michael sits forward in his seat and places his elbows on his knees thoughtfully. “We understand, chérie.”

Rafael looks intently into the fireplace and frowns, “Perhaps we can speak to a witch. There might be a spell that can help us find them?”

I consider our options for a moment.

My brow furrows with consternation, “I remember that Hunters used a spell during the hunter and demon wars to locate demons and annihilate them.”

Lana nods her head excitedly, “Yeah, I know what you’re talking about. Mikhail’s mate Nevaeh was kidnapped by some psycho years ago, and Azazel cast a spell to locate her. It’s supposed to be like a bloodline spell. That’s how Mathias discovered he was her father. Nevaeh told us the story on one of our girl’s nights.”

“It might not work, luv. The females must already be marked by their mates to be found.”

Gabriel squints, “What is the spell?”

“The spell Lana speaks of was one from the sixteenth century that demon hunters used to hunt demon families. The hunter would catch a demon, enchant their mark, and use it to locate their families. Unfortunately for the hunters, my demons retaliated. For nearly a hundred years, demons and other supernatural creatures warred. Soon after, The Council established a treaty with my demon lords and me. We agreed to stop the war before any more supernatural beings were killed. Once the pact was formed, all demon hunter cells were disbanded, and demon hunting was prohibited.”

Michael’s brow furrows, “But you only speak of demons. Would that work on Arch Angels?”

My brothers give me a searching look.

“As I said, the mate must be marked to be found, and I have no sodding idea what will happen if you cast the spell. Nothing may happen at all.”

Gabriel scoffs irritably, “I’m willing to try,”

Rafael nods, “Me too.”

I nod, “Alright, I’ll ask Azazel?”

“Ask Azazel what?” Said demon asks, appearing before me with my son Fallon, Bree and Zoe.

Lana runs to the woman and leads to the breakfast table, leaving me to handle the demon.

Rising from my seat, I wave to my son and the Demon. “We were talking about using a spell that might help them find their mates. There was talk of using The Mark,”

Azazel shakes his head, “The Mark will only work on mated couples. None of you marked your mates before they disappeared.”

“How about a blood spell?” I ask.

Azazel nods, “It might work if you use Lana’s blood. You can probably get better results in that manner, but it will not lead you directly to your mates.”

“It will simply open up possibilities for you to find each other,” Fallon interjects.

“What do you mean?” Michael asks.

“I believe he means that the spell will give providence a push and direct your mates to you,” I reply.

Azazel nods, “For example, one of them can run into you at a pub or find your lost mobile inside of the loo.”

“How would we know if it works?” Rafael asks.

Everyone shrugs, “You’ll only know when you meet her. It’s not an exact science, but it’s the best option.”

Gabriel sneers, “Or it might not work at all, and we’ll never meet them.”

Lana and the others join us at that moment. “You’ll meet them. You just have to be patient, Gabriel.”

The mood is hopeful as Azazel helps us create the spell, and Lana donates drops of her blood.

Once the spell is finished, each of my brothers takes the vial that Azazel hands them and adds a drop of their blood to it.

“Ut sors. Caritatem amisit iterumque ad tarda reuerti.” Fate to find. Love lost to reunite. My brothers repeat the spell making each vial glow and sputter in different colors until they sputter out.

I give my brothers a relieved expression, “It seems that the spell worked. Now, we just wait for the wheels of fate to turn in your direction.”

“How do ye know the spell worked?” Rafael asks.

“Because when the powered fizzled out of the vial, it began its search.”

“How long do you think it will take?”

Azazel shrugs, “It can be months or even years. That is all we can do for now.”

Each male gives him a solemn nod. It’s not the most useful option, but at least it gives my brothers a glimmer of hope.

After a moment, Rafael and Michael flash out of the room. Now that the Creator is gone, they’ve been working on reorganizing things in heaven.

I arch a brow when I see that Gabriel didn’t follow suit.

Gabriel seems to be the most pessimistic of my brothers. It’s understandable because, unlike the others and I, Gabriel is still trying to process The Creator’s deception. It’s difficult to accept that everything you believed was a lie.

Lana steps close to Gabriel and places her hand on his forearm with a comforting squeeze. Gabriel’s expression softens as he gazes into her beautiful eyes. “You’ll find her, Gabriel. I know you will.”

Gabriel gives her a grim nod, “I hope so,”

I place my arm over her shoulder and kiss her temple, “We’ll help you as much as we can, little brother.”

He pats Lana’s hand and gives me a solemn nod. “Maybe I have a private moment with you, Lucifer.”

I look at Lana, “I told you I’d take you back to your team—”

Lana squeezes my side and shakes her head, “It’s okay. You should talk to your brother. It’s probably better if I go back by myself and jump into it now.”

“Are you certain, luv?” I ask.

She nods, “Yeah, since Michael fixed it for them to think I was there the whole time, I can finish my research without a problem,” she leans close and kisses my chin, “Plus, I don’t think I can get any work done with you distracting me. I’ll flash home once I’ve finished.”

I kiss her gently before I let her go. “Alright then, I’ll see you later. Be careful on those steep climbs.”

She rolls her eyes, “I’ll be fine. Luv you,”

I smile, “I love you too, my queen.”

Without another word, Lana flashes out of the room.

Since Lana had her archangel powers restored, she has been able to access her powers. She can now flash in and out of places and release her wings to fly.

Gabriel arches a brow at my besotted stare, “You truly love her?”

I nod, “I do. Lana is my world now, and I will kill anyone who tries to take her from me.” I pat his shoulder as I lead him to my office, “You’ll understand my position once you find your mate.”

Gabriel’s jaw ticks, but he doesn’t reply, which worries me a bit.

Once we go into my office, I close the door behind me and offer him a seat before taking one across from him. “What is it that you wished to speak about?” I ask.

Gabriel moves forward in his seat and rubs his palms together, “I…I wanted to apologize for how I acted when you shared The Creator’s dishonest actions.”

My brow furrows, “It’s understandable, Gabriel. I know it would be difficult for you to believe after you were so loyal to him.”

He shakes his head and sneers, “I was such a blind fool. After each of you fell, I should have seen it, but I told myself you were all wrong.”

“Don’t, Gabriel. Do not let him take this from you. The Creator was wrong to use your devotion and twist it into something ugly. All you can do now is move forward and find the other half of your soul.”

His nostrils flare as he gazes blankly forward, “What if I don’t find her, Lucifer?”

“You will!” I insist, “Have faith.”

He nods. “I hope so,”

I smile, “The good news is that at least you have us. I’m sure you’re bloody ecstatic to be looking at my gorgeous face again.”

He snorts and sarcastically replies, “Yeah, I had almost forgotten and overbearing you were, big brother. I have definitely missed that.”

“You bet those brilliant golden curls you have missed us, you lucky git.”

We laugh for several minutes as we reestablish our brotherly bond.

Gabriel might not admit it, but he is happy. I just hope that they find their mates and discover the happiness that I have found with Lana.
