Chapter 200 The Perfect Ending
Chapter 200 The Perfect Ending
Olivia knew Henry's temperament—once he made a decision, nothing could change it. Her gaze dropped to her belly, and her heart ached. She had fought so hard for this child.
"Stay strong, my baby..." she murmured, her hand resting gently on her belly.
When Gwyneth heard the news, she came rushing to the hospital.
"We agreed we'd get married at the same time, remember? My godson could be the ring bearer. Imagine the scene—how spectacular!"
Olivia gave her a flat look. "He'd be a newborn, Gwyneth. What kind of ring bearer would that be? You're ridiculous."
Gwyneth pouted and squeezed Olivia's hand. "I just wanted us to have our big day together. It would be perfect."
Olivia wanted that too. But the dangers ahead... she didn't know if she'd survive to see it.
On the day Gwyneth and Kieran registered their marriage, Olivia went as a witness. Henry supported her as they walked in. When Gwyneth finally signed the papers, Olivia's eyes filled with tears.
"Don't cry, Olivia. It's not good for you," Henry murmured, brushing the tears from her cheek.
She shook her head but smiled. "I'm happy for her. She's waited far too long."
Violette cried too, though she'd barely had time to get close to Gwyneth before Kieran swept her away.
Back at the hospital, Olivia began to feel short of breath. Henry saw her pale and rushed to get a doctor. After a quick exam, she was wheeled into surgery.
"We have to operate immediately. Both mother and child are at risk," the doctor said urgently.
Henry gripped her hand, his voice trembling. "I'm going in with you."
Olivia's lips curved faintly. "No. It's not something you should see. I don't want you haunted by it."
He kissed her forehead. "Olivia, there's nothing I haven't faced with you. I'm not leaving your side."
The surgical lights flared. The sharp scent of antiseptic filled the air. Monitors beeped steadily. Outside in the maternity ward corridor, Gwyneth, Kieran, and Autumn waited, their faces tight with worry.
An hour later, the baby came first.
"Family of Olivia?"
Autumn stepped forward quickly. "Here. I'm her mother."
The nurse smiled and placed the baby in her arms. "A healthy boy. Both mother and child are safe."
Autumn's eyes misted instantly. Gwyneth was crying openly, and Kieran wrapped an arm around her shoulders. The operating room doors swung open again, and Henry emerged with the medical team, pushing Olivia's bed.
"How is she?" Autumn asked, voice tight.
The obstetrician pulled off her mask with a smile. "She's weak and will need time to recover. The baby's strong—his cry is loud. He's a month early, but developing well."
Olivia's face was ghost-pale. Giving birth had drained every ounce of her strength.
Then the surgeon's voice turned grave. "Her organs are failing. You need to prepare yourselves."
Parker's words nearly knocked Henry off his feet. Kieran caught him before he fell.
"Henry, she'll be okay. Don't panic."
"Parker, please... do whatever it takes."
Parker nodded. "You know her condition. Her life expectancy was already short. Carrying this baby pushed her body to the limit."
Henry stayed by her side, refusing to leave. A week later, she finally opened her eyes—and startled at the sight of him.
"I only gave birth. Why do you look like you've aged a decade? People might think I married an old man."
Henry kissed her hand. "Do you know you scared us half to death? Seven days in a coma... if you hadn't woken up, I'd have followed you."
Olivia clapped a hand over his mouth. "Don't say that. Where's our son? I haven't even seen him."
Henry didn't move. "Too noisy. I sent him to Mom in the next room."
She stared at him. Was this man really the father?
During her recovery, Olivia was perhaps the most pampered new mother alive. She spent her days eating and sleeping while Autumn and Henry cared for the baby. But when the boy cried hard, only Olivia could quiet him.
Holding him, she smiled. "You really are your father's son—dramatic."
She kissed his tiny face, and he stopped crying instantly. At night, he had to sleep beside her or he'd raise the roof.
Even Autumn, his grandmother, shook her head. "Just like you were as a baby. Nothing but trouble."
Olivia laughed, carrying him out to the balcony for sunlight. The baby lay in his cradle while she sat close, the two of them bathed in warm light. In Henry's eyes, it was the softest sight in the world.
Three months later, the Special Operations Unit in Silverlight City held a mass wedding. Ten couples were to be married, and Gwyneth and Kieran were already waiting outside the family housing block.
"Olivia's taking forever. It's been almost an hour!" Gwyneth complained, tugging at the red dress she rarely wore. She looked stunning, but she kept fidgeting.
"When can I change? I'm going crazy."
She reached for the headpiece, but Kieran caught her hand. "Leave it. Just a little longer."
Olivia and Henry came downstairs to the sound of the couple bickering. Henry carried their hundred-day-old son, dressed in a tiny police uniform that matched his father's. His eyes were identical to Olivia's.
"Come here, godson," Gwyneth said, reaching for him. Olivia slapped her hand away.
"Gwyneth, stop being reckless. If you don't act like a lady today, Mrs. Martinez will kill you."
At the mention of Violette, Gwyneth straightened immediately. She knew if she embarrassed herself, Violette would lecture her for months.
"Fine. It's just a wedding. What's the big deal?"
Olivia rolled her eyes and dragged her toward the grand hall. Inside, rows of brides stood beside grooms in uniform, perfectly matched.
"Ladies and gentlemen, today we celebrate ten couples joining the Special Operations Unit. Congratulations to all."
Thunderous applause filled the hall. Olivia recognized so many faces—colleagues, friends, family.
Maybe this was it. Maybe this was her happy ending. For Olivia, happiness was reunion.
