Chapter 199 So Lucky to Have a Brother
Chapter 199 So Lucky to Have a Brother
Bobby chuckled. "What's on your mind? I'm just being transferred to another city for work. This time I'll be gone for four years. I've barely arrived and probably won't get leave to come back, so I wanted to give you your gift now. A hundred grand isn't much—go ahead and use it."
Her eyes burned. Ever since she'd gotten pregnant, tears came easily. Seeing her like that, Bobby reached out and ruffled her hair.
"You're all grown up and still acting like a kid. Don't cry. I'm here."
Olivia nodded. "Having you as my brother... that's the best."
Autumn had told Olivia a little about Bobby's situation, and only then did she learn he'd volunteered for the transfer—to avoid suspicion.
With his ties to Henry, and to Ivan, plus the fact he'd spent years at the border before suddenly returning, moving to a remote city was the safest way to keep attention away from him. It was also for his own protection.
"Olivia, Bobby's not doing so well," Autumn had said. "Ivan thinks he should get out for a while."
Olivia understood. His departure was about family safety and a responsibility he carried like a weight on his shoulders.
She didn't hesitate to spend the card with the hundred thousand dollars. Every purchase alert went straight to Bobby's phone. When he saw the messages, he called immediately.
"Figures... women do love to shop. Olivia, I'm starting to worry about Henry's wallet. With his salary, can he really keep up with you?"
Olivia laughed. "That's why I've got you. Don't worry—every cent you gave me will be gone in no time."
Bobby sighed. "Lucky me, having a sister who spends like there's no tomorrow. Once you're feeling better, get out of the house. Pregnant women should get some sun."
"I know. Thanks."
When the call ended, Bobby's smile lingered—a rare sight everyone wanted to see. Olivia made a point of dropping by to bother him now and then, helping him ease back into family life.
By the third month of her pregnancy, Olivia was back at work. She'd put on a little weight. Henry hadn't been home for over a month, and she knew he was on assignment.
What she didn't know was that Henry had been injured in the field and had already spent half a month in the hospital.
When Olivia arrived, Henry had been awake for only two days and was still weak.
"Mr. Phillips, I'm just here to change your dressing. No need to be so resistant."
She was about to step inside when she heard voices. She stopped in the doorway, arms crossed.
Inside, a pretty nurse was about to pull off Henry's shirt. He refused, and they ended up tugging at each other—a rare sight.
"Get a male doctor. Otherwise, you can hand in your resignation right now."
The nurse set the tray down with a pout. As she turned to leave, she spotted Olivia at the door and glared. "Who are you? Who let you in? This is a VIP ward—people can't just wander in."
Before Olivia could answer, Henry saw her. Panic flashed across his face, and he toppled right off the bed.
"Mr. Phillips! Are you okay? Don't move—I'll help you."
The nurse stepped forward to assist, but Henry shoved her out of the room and pulled Olivia into his arms.
"Olivia... you shouldn't have come all this way. You're pregnant. What if something happened?"
Olivia arched a brow. "What's wrong? Don't want me here because you're hiding someone from me?"
His face tightened, then he gave a weary smile. "What are you talking about? I've never minded you being here.."
His voice was weak, but his eyes swept over her, taking in every detail. "You don't look so good. Have you been resting?"
Held close, Olivia caught the faint scent of antiseptic on him, and her chest ached. "I'm fine. But you... you're hurt this badly and didn't say a word. If I hadn't called today, you'd have kept it from me forever."
Henry coughed lightly and guided her to sit. "I didn't want you to worry. The mission went sideways, but it's fine now."
Olivia shot him a look, then made him lie back down. She changed his dressing herself. The nurse, clearly unwilling to let it go, returned with a doctor.
"Mr. Wells, this woman changed Henry's dressing without permission. She should be thrown out immediately."
Griffin Wells glanced at Henry, then at the wound. Seeing Olivia's work, he smiled.
"You've had medical training? This is excellent."
Olivia nodded. "I have. I studied forensic medicine, but I've had clinical training too. I want to know his condition—can I see his chart?"
Griffin nodded quickly. "Of course, Ms. Smith. I'll get it right away."
Being called "Ms. Smith" made Olivia pause. Did he know her?
Griffin explained, "I graduated from the police academy too—two years after you. You were the star of the academy. Shame Mr. Phillips married you before anyone else had a chance."
Henry shot him a look that could kill. Griffin had no idea when to shut up.
Olivia chuckled, scanned Henry's chart, and made a decision.
"Transfer him. We'll continue treatment at Silverlight City Hospital."
Griffin went to handle the paperwork. Henry waited quietly, smiling at the sight of Olivia's slightly rounded belly. He even kept smiling the whole trip until Olivia finally made him sleep.
Back at Silverlight City Hospital, Olivia arranged for a full examination. The mission had been a success, and Henry had earned commendation for the case. He even returned to Silverlight City ahead of schedule. The organization planned a ceremony, and Henry gave a speech on stage. Sitting in the audience, Olivia had to admit—he looked damn good in uniform.
Olivia remained with the SWAT team during her pregnancy, working cases even if she couldn't join field operations. But as the months passed, her health began to falter.
"The prenatal results show the baby's fine, but Olivia's not doing well. She may need an early C-section."
Parker consulted an obstetrics specialist, and the conclusion left everyone uneasy.
Olivia simply rested her hands on her belly, her expression calm. "I'm fine. The baby's safety matters most."
Henry tightened his grip on her hand, his eyes shining but his voice silent. He knew her stubbornness, knew she'd choose the child's life over her own without hesitation.
But Henry couldn't accept that. "Parker, arrange for her to be admitted. We'll do the C-section when the time is right."
The decision made Olivia angry, but Henry couldn't bear the thought of losing her. He would never agree to risk her life for the birth.
