Chapter 294

Chapter 294

A single encounter in a white gown is enough to be remembered for a lifetime.

"You look so beautiful, you're sure to stun Mr. Miller." Chloe nodded gently at the staff member's words. She was even starting to feel the anticipation herself.

Finally, the curtain was slowly drawn back.

Howard and Chloe, draped in her white wedding gown, met each other's gaze.

"Chloe!" Howard shot up from the sofa. The usually composed Howard had completely lost his composure. The staff, sensing the moment, found a tactful excuse and quietly exited the room.

"Chloe, you're beautiful." Howard said, slowly walking toward her.

Chloe looked up at him. "Howard, I finally get to marry you."

He had waited for her for so long. And she had fallen in love with him long before he ever confessed. It must have been fate.

Howard's kiss landed softly on Chloe's forehead.

That evening, Howard brought Chloe back to the Miller Family Mansion for dinner.

Fallon couldn't help but look Chloe up and down, her eyes filled with affection. But when her gaze fell on Chloe's wrist, she paused. "Chloe, why aren't you wearing the bracelet I gave you? Don't you like it?"

Chloe looked a bit embarrassed by the question.

"Chloe just thinks it's too valuable." Howard quickly came to her rescue.

Hearing his explanation, Fallon frowned and pulled Chloe's hand closer. "You silly girl, you won't even wear a single decent piece of jewelry."

"It would be a shame if such a precious piece got scratched or damaged."

From a short distance away, Nellie and Chris exchanged a look. Nellie couldn't resist teasing, "Mom's only asked a few questions, and someone's already getting antsy?"

Hearing Nellie's jest, Chloe shyly glanced at Howard. He, however, simply took her hand. "She's my wife. Of course, I'll protect her."

Crystal Haven.

Adeline had been pulling all-nighters for days, buried in company matters. She had barely even had time to see Kelvin. Left with no choice, Kelvin showed up at her company with a lunch box.

"Are you planning on becoming the iron women?" Kelvin teased with a smile as he laid out the containers of food one by one on the table.

Adeline put down her files and rubbed her hands together as she approached the coffee table. "Let's see what goodies you brought me today."

"Salmon, green vegetables, steak..." Kelvin listed the dishes as he handed her a sanitized wet wipe.

Adeline took it, wiped her hands casually, and began to devour the food. "Ever since I started using my brain so much at work, I've discovered a newfound love for meat." she lamented between bites of steak. She then sighed dramatically. "I was hoping to be Chloe's bridesmaid, and here you are, fattening me up."

Listening to her complaints, Kelvin sat quietly beside her and silently opened a bottle of water for her.

After a brief half-hour together, Adeline chased him out of her office. In her words, having him there would only distract her.

Left with no other option, Kelvin drove to his apartment. Even though he had taken over the Williams Group, he still hadn't moved back into the Williams Family Mansion.

At his apartment door, Kelvin frowned at the sight of Diana crouching there. "What are you doing here?"

"You won't come home, so if I want to see you, I have to come here," Diana said, looking aggrieved as she grabbed his arm. Her eyes fell on the insulated lunch box in his hand, and her brow furrowed slightly. "Kelvin, did you just go see Adeline?"

"It's getting late. You should go home." Kelvin said, taking out his key to open the door.

Diana was not pleased. "You're kicking me out before I've even stepped inside?" she muttered under her breath, "You've really been enchanted by that femme fatale Adeline."

Hearing Diana slander Adeline, Kelvin's face darkened. "Diana, what nonsense are you talking about?"

Seeing him scold her for Adeline's sake, Diana looked even more wronged. "It's true! Ever since you met that woman, you haven't even come home."

Kelvin placed the empty lunch box in the kitchen and turned to face her. "Diana, my decision not to return to the Williams Family Mansion has nothing to do with whether I know Adeline or not. It's my own decision."

Unexpectedly faced with such a serious tone from him, Diana's face flushed with anger. "Well, aren't you busy? How do you have time to deliver lunch to Adeline? Do you like her?" Diana craned her neck, looking at him defiantly.

Kelvin washed the lunch box, his tone flat. "That's my private business." He placed the clean container on the rack. When he turned around, he saw Diana looking at him, crying.

He sighed, exasperated. "I'll call a car to take you home."

"What if it were Adeline? Would you send her home, too?" Diana looked at him, her crying growing more intense.

"Why do you have to compare yourself to Adeline?" Kelvin was speechless.

"What if I insist on comparing myself to her?" Diana said, and then she began to take off her clothes.

"Diana, have you lost your mind?" Kelvin grabbed a nearby blanket and wrapped it tightly around her.

"Can't you see?" Diana bit down hard on Kelvin's arm. But she couldn't bring herself to use force and slowly released her grip. "I've always liked you, really, really liked you. Why can't you just look at me?" She clutched his arm, a faint smile on her lips. "You've always known, haven't you? So why do you keep avoiding it?"

Kelvin didn't speak. He simply took out his phone and called the Williams Family Mansion's driver. "Diana is here with me. Please come and pick her up." He gave the instruction and hung up.

"You'd better get dressed right now. Do you have any idea how your behavior could ruin the Williams family?" Kelvin reminded her. He wasn't lying. The Williams family had just changed its heir, and the company was already in turmoil. If, at this moment, he, as the new heir, were to be embroiled in a scandal with his own sister, the impact on the family would be significant.

"Diana, I am your brother, and I can only ever be your brother." Kelvin reminded her.

As they were talking, his phone rang again.

"The driver is here. I'll walk you downstairs." Kelvin said, grabbing her arm and leading her downstairs, putting her in the car. "Be safe on the way." he said perfunctorily before turning and heading back upstairs.

Diana stared at his retreating back, her emotions a tangled mess.

"Adeline! It's all your fault, you bitch!" In the back seat of the car, Diana's hands were clenched into tight fists. In her heart, she believed Kelvin wasn't entirely without feelings for her. It was Adeline's appearance that had interfered with their relationship.

"To the Taylor Group." Diana suddenly told the driver.

"So late?"

"Just go where I tell you to go! Quit asking questions!"
