Chapter 284

Chapter 284

At the Scott Villa.

Derek was sitting on the couch, staring at his phone screen.

His face showed absolutely no expression.

Just a daughter!

And if Sloane didn't wake up, she might turn out to be a completely useless daughter at that.

Really nothing worth celebrating.

Karen stared at her phone screen. When Derek didn't reply for the longest time, she called him directly.

Without even hesitating, Derek hung up.

"Derek must be busy."

"Derek's definitely busy."

Karen clutched her phone, murmuring to herself.

Meanwhile, at the Miller Villa.

Howard had been stuck at home for almost a week straight.

Watching Teddy show up every day with massive dark circles under his eyes to report on work, Chloe finally couldn't stand it anymore and forced Howard to go back to the office.

The catch? She had to text him every hour to let him know she was okay.

Although this request left her speechless, there was nothing she could do. For the sake of freedom and Teddy's physical health, Chloe could only agree.

After staying at home for days, Chloe could finally get out and explore while Howard was at work.

In a corner of a coffee shop, Chloe ordered a latte and started a video chat with Adeline.

They inevitably brought up Chris.

"So has Chris been found yet?" Adeline asked.

Chloe shook her head. "Not yet, but Princess Pearl said she could help. Hopefully everything works out."

Adeline nodded. "Yeah, poor Nellie's been waiting alone for so long."

Seeing Adeline's wistful expression, Chloe frowned slightly. "You're acting weird today. What's going on?"

Faced with Chloe's questioning look, Adeline's cheeks flushed. "You're talking nonsense."

"So, how are things going with you and Kelvin?" Chloe asked, fishing for gossip.

"There's no progress. We only met once when we got back, and now he's this big shot who's been too busy to see me for two whole days." As Adeline spoke, her tone carried unmistakable irritation.

"So you're mad that Kelvin doesn't have time for you?" Chloe teased.

Sure enough, Adeline got flustered. "Chloe, if you keep talking nonsense, I'm going to ignore you."

"Okay, okay, I'll stop." Chloe backed down.

She was about to say something else when her phone rang.

"I need to take this call." Chloe sounded resigned.

"It's Howard, isn't it?" Adeline seemed to have X-ray vision.

Chloe smiled helplessly. "Ever since that kidnapping incident, he's constantly worried about me."

She answered the call. "Howard."

"Chlo, where are you?" Howard's voice was full of concern.

"I'm out having coffee. I'll be home soon." Chloe tried to reassure him.

"Can I come find you?" Who would have thought that the usually decisive Howard could actually whine like this?

Chloe glanced at her watch, feeling exasperated. "If I'm not mistaken, you've been at the office for less than three hours."

"Three hours is way too long." Howard said.

Finally, Chloe gave in.

Half an hour later, Howard got his wish and was sitting across from Chloe, sipping coffee from his own cup.

Some company executives who knew Howard had come to the office rushed over with documents for him to sign.

Seeing the empty office with only Teddy left, one of them looked confused. "Where's Mr. Miller?"

"He left!" Teddy's expression was deadpan.

He'd gotten used to Howard's lovesick behavior by now.

"But didn't he just get to the office? How did he leave so fast?" The VP across from Teddy looked baffled.

Teddy casually joked, "Probably missed his wife too much."

"Well, I guess Mr. Miller is still in the honeymoon phase..." The VP smiled awkwardly and left with his documents.

At the coffee shop.

Chloe was taking tiny bites of a small piece of mousse cake on her plate.

Occasionally, she'd look up at Howard with resignation and sigh.

"How about tomorrow you stay at the office for one more hour?" Chloe sighed, trying to negotiate.

Howard looked at Chloe. "Would you... like to try the coffee in my office?"

Chloe fell silent.

Meanwhile, overseas.

Because she'd gotten involved in Chris's situation, Pearl had a huge fight with her sister Faye.

The reason was that during her investigation, Pearl discovered that Chris's plane crash was actually caused deliberately, and the culprit was her own sister Faye.

Faye had fallen for Chris, so she'd faked his death, wanting to keep Chris by her side forever.

"Faye, you have to let him go home. His wife is waiting for him back in his country!" Pearl argued with Faye.

But Faye refused. "Do you have any idea how much effort I put into making Chris stay with me?"

"But you can't just take someone without their consent." Pearl said.

"He doesn't remember anything from before. He can have a new name, a new identity. The two of us can start fresh." Faye remained stubborn.

Their argument got so heated that it disturbed their parents.

Undoubtedly, Faye's behavior was unbecoming of royalty, and she was severely reprimanded.

"But Chris is willing to be with me now. He's completely forgotten about that woman named Nellie." Even so, Faye remained obstinate.

"I'm sorry, Princess Faye, but I've never forgotten my wife." Chris's voice slowly sounded behind Faye. "And I've never forgotten that my name is Chris."

"So you do remember everything? All this time, your compliance—it was all an act?" Faye stared at Chris in disbelief.

"I'm sorry, Princess Faye. I know what I did probably hurt you, but you hurt my wife too. All this time, she must have been waiting so hard for me at home. I just wanted to find a chance to get back to her."

Ever since the plane crash, Chris had been imprisoned by Faye for a long time.

Even later, when Chris could walk around with Faye, countless bodyguards watched his every move. He couldn't escape at all, so all he could do was wait.

"Faye, stolen things will never truly belong to you." Pearl said coldly to Faye.

Faye looked at Chris, devastated. "Chris, can't you really stay for me?"

Without a moment's hesitation, Chris shook his head decisively.

At this moment, his heart was already racing to get home.

At Riverton Airport.

Howard and Chloe stood with Nellie at the arrival gate.

Nellie was trembling slightly, her eyes full of nervousness.

Chloe had never seen Nellie like this.

When Chris's familiar face appeared in front of Nellie again, she finally couldn't hold it together and threw herself into Chris's arms.

Chloe turned to look at Howard.

Howard gently pulled her into his embrace. "Chlo, thank you."
