Chapter 14 Fire it up tender
“Lucy, wake up. I found the documents"
I woke to Gia shaking my body. Telling me something I can't process now.
The documents.
“What?" I asked dazedly.
“Just get up and freshen up. We have work to do"
I let out a loud yawn. After 10 minutes of just sitting on the bed and looking at nothing. I got up to freshen up and finally went out to the living room. After dressing in my most comfortable sweats
“Good morning", I greeted Gia, who looked so active and very refreshed early this morning. She is a morning person, but she looked more chipper than normal.
"Good morning”
She pushed her tablet to me as I settled down after getting some cereal.
“Those are all the documents and files of all the names you need to complete your succession. Your father did not put you as heir until recently. Since he couldn't bring his son-in-law to the business. You were the next bet"
"Why didn't he say anything to me?"
"Right? It could have saved him his last breath"
She looked down at the document.
I looked at it. "This is amazing, Gia" All my father's business associates. Allies and a list of companies and properties he has. The ones in his name and the one in a fake name. Everything is there.
“Thank you", I breathed “Are you sure you are okay? I am sorry I didn't give you time to process it. It just happened, and I just acted on adrenaline."
I apologised to her. But I know how much she hated her father for what he did to her mother. It still didn't give me the right to do that to her.
"I am okay. Really. Stop being worried. The only thing I am disappointed about is that I didn't get to slit his throat. But I know that is the kind of death he deserved. An embarrassing one"
Gia explained. Her hand covered mine. Her eyes warmed.
“Okay"
I knew she wasn't. I knew she needed her space. And I will be happy to let Jer have it.
And I began eating the now soggy cereals.

After a long day of sorting out the files. It was finally time for our flight.
I have missed my girls.
And besides, I did not want Liam to be suspicious of what I came here to do.

I finally got home. I was immediately hounded by Lucia and Lyla. The two of them were so excited to see me.
“I missed you guys so much. Give mummy kisses," they jumped on immediately. Liam wasn't home yet. The girls told me that he immediately dropped them off at home. He went back, saying he had a meeting.

We played and watched cartoons together after eating lots of chocolate. Until they finally fell asleep. I took them to bed. Tucking them in and kissing them good night.
I finally went to my room to undress and shower off today's stress.
After I was done. I sank onto the edge of the bed, guilt and longing coiling around my chest. I had wanted to see him for the two days I left, yet every time I thought of going to Liam, my fear of the tension, the anger and our sour history stopped me. I hated myself for it.
A knock on the door pulled me from my spiralling thoughts.
Liam
My heart leapt. “I…i’m coming,” I stammered, straightening myself up.
The door swung open, and there he was. Standing as he belonged here, like he always did. His eyes locked onto mine, quiet and intense, and just… consuming.
“Hey,” he said, his voice low, warm, brushing against my ears in a way that made my skin tingle.
“You are back", he breathed.
“I am", I said. My fingers are tapping at the door in anxiousness.
“Do you…Do you want to come in?” I asked, trying to sound casual, though my throat had gone dry.
He nodded, stepping forward immediately, closing the space between us. In a heartbeat, he was near enough that I could feel the heat radiating off him. My stomach dipped, my pulse spiking.
Without warning, he pressed his lips to mine. Firm and demanding. The kind of kiss that left no room for hesitation. Shocked, I froze for half a second before melting into him, responding instinctively. Our lips moved together, urgent and reckless. Our hands are brushing over each other’s shoulders, backs, and arms. Every nerve ending seemed alive.
We pulled back briefly, just long enough to catch our breaths. His eyes were dark and dangerous, and familiar all at once. Just the look that gets me willing to do anything just for him to do as he always promised. “You don’t understand how long I’ve waited for this,” he murmured, voice rough and low.
My hands threaded through his hair, tugging gently, needing him so much that it hurts. “I…”I whispered, but he silenced me with another kiss, softer this time, slower and more deliberate. As if savouring every swallow of her lips. He pressed against me, his hard body making me feel safe, wanted, and dizzy all at the same time.

The world outside the room fell away. My chest pressed to his, every inch of me craving him, and his hands traced my curves in a careful, teasing way that left me shivering. I realised that it wasn’t about anger or frustration anymore.
Time blurred. Kisses became slow, lingering, hands exploring with tenderness that made my body hum. Liam pressed me gently against the bed, and I surrendered fully, curling into him as he devoured me whole. Feeling the warmth of him spread through her. Every touch, every sigh, every brush of our lips made my heart pound as if it might burst. I screamed out his name into the night. Trying to muffle my noise so as not to wake the girls.
Eventually, I collapsed against the bed, breathing hard, hearts racing, my body literally tingling with electricity. With how good he was, he was good with his mouth.
He held me as I came down from my high. “I’ve missed you,” I whispered, soft and vulnerable.
“I know,” he murmured, pressing a gentle kiss to my temple.
Exhaustion grabbed me, forcing me to keep my eyes open at the light hair strokes he was giving me. Smiling despite myself. My heavy eyes are finally giving in to exhaustion.
By the next morning, Liam was gone, and the kids had to go to school, leaving me to wake alone. My body still hummed with the memory of last night, and I found myself smiling at the lingering warmth in my chest.
When she went downstairs, a plate of my favourite breakfast awaited me: pancakes and chocolate. On the napkin was a note in his neat handwriting: “Sorry, I had to leave. A Meeting I couldn't miss is happening today. See you later.”
I smiled, touched that he still thought of her. I sat down to eat, letting the memory of his presence wash over me. It was enough for now. It always seemed to be, somehow.
