Before the Darkness Took Me
Before the Darkness Took Me
Emily's POV
I held the blade against my skin, my breath coming in sharp, ragged gasps. “I will kill myself before I let you take my child from me,” I hissed, my voice breaking under the weight of my conviction.
Marco’s expression faltered, the confidence in his eyes giving way to something more primal... fear, perhaps. His hands twitched at his sides, but he didn’t dare move closer.
“So if you don’t want to lose your precious trophy,” I continued, my voice a fractured mix of rage and heartbreak, “you will allow me to keep this child.”
The silence between us was deafening, the scalpel trembling in my grip as tears blurred my vision. For the first time, I saw the tiniest flicker of uncertainty cross Marco’s face, a crack in his impenetrable facade.
Hope flared within me, fragile but alive. Maybe, just maybe, I had found a way to reach him.
Then, he laughed.
The sound was sharp and cold, slicing through my resolve like a blade. Before I could process the shift, two hulking figures emerged from the shadows, their hands like iron clamps around my arms. The scalpel clattered to the ground with a hollow clang, its threat extinguished as quickly as it had arisen.
“No,” I gasped, struggling against their hold, but their strength was absolute. My cries went unheard, swallowed by the cavernous silence of the room.
Marco stepped closer, his polished shoes clicking ominously against the floor. He towered over me, his presence suffocating. A smirk curled his lips as he leaned in, his breath hot and heavy against my ear.
“I tried, Emily,” he murmured, the softness in his voice betraying the threat laced within. “But you leave me no choice.”
“You’ve forced my hand, my love,” he said softly, almost tenderly. “But don’t worry. I’ll take care of that little problem in your belly... for our good.”
I struggled harder, my voice cracking as I screamed,'' Marco! You can’t do this!”
But his gaze remained cold, detached, as he turned his back to me, leaving me in the hands of his enforcers. They dragged me away, their grips unyielding. I kicked and twisted, pain pulsing through my limbs, but nothing compared to the desperation clawing at my chest.
“Let me go!” I screamed, my voice ragged, echoing through the hallway.
Summoning every ounce of strength left, I broke free from one of their grips, then the other. My legs shook beneath me as I sprinted forward, my breath ragged, but I couldn’t stop.
“Marco!” I cried, falling to my knees in front of him. Tears streaked down my face as I clung to his pant leg. My voice broke under the weight of my desperation. “Please... don’t do this. Don’t take my child.”
For a fleeting moment, Marco paused. His eyes met mine, and I saw something... maybe. Empathy. But it vanished almost as quickly as it came.
He bent down, lifting me with unexpected tenderness, before pulling me close again, his grip tightening as his breath lingered against my ear. “I will not allow you, the love of my life, to carry Jason Russo’s child.”
The venom in his words sent a shiver down my spine. He gestured to the two men, and they stepped forward. Without a word, they dragged me to a cold, sterile room, strapping me to a bed with ruthless precision.
I screamed and cried, pleading with them. “Please! Don’t kill my child! Please!” But my cries were swallowed by the silence of the room.
The doctor entered, her face pale, her hands shaking. She hesitated, her gaze filled with pity. “Doctor... please,” I whimpered. “You can’t do this. Save my child... please.”
Her eyes filled with tears, and she gently took my hand, her grip trembling. “I’m so sorry,” she whispered. “But if I don’t... he’ll kill my children.”
I shook my head, the reality of it crashing over me. There was no other way.
The doctor raised the syringe, the needle gleaming coldly in the dim light. She pressed it into my arm, the sharp sting sending shockwaves through me.
Everything blurred as the darkness closed in, and I drifted into forced sleep, my body no longer my own.
