Chapter 404 You Must Promise

Chapter 404 You Must Promise

Elysia knew that once Caroline made up her mind about something, it couldn't be easily changed. Since Caroline had thought it through, she respected her choice.

"For now, just focus on treatment. If you need me or your dad to step in for anything, just let me know." Elysia worried that the Wipere family might make things difficult using Caroline's condition as an excuse.

Caroline said, "Let's wait until Dad gets home tonight to tell him."

Elysia nodded, looking worried. "Caroline, Leopold..."

"Mom," Caroline knew what she was concerned about, "don't worry. Since Leopold found out about my condition, he hasn't shown any sign of disgust."

"That's good. I don't want you to suffer any grievance because of this." Elysia looked at Caroline with heartache. She really couldn't understand how her daughter, who was excellent in every way, ended up with this illness.

Elysia suddenly remembered something. "I have a classmate who works at a hospital in Nexoria City. He's currently a vice president there. Let's go get checked out there - maybe they have more advanced and effective methods."

Caroline also held onto a glimmer of hope. "Okay, but it'll have to be next weekend, after I finish the work I have on hand."

Elysia took out her phone. "I'll contact him right now."

Caroline glanced at the time and stood up. "I should go too. Time to head to work."

"Caroline," Elysia followed her to the entrance, "keep a good mindset and don't put too much pressure on yourself."

Caroline smiled. "I know, Mom."

Leaving Elysia's house, Caroline drove to work.

Just as she entered the office building, Caspian came down the stairs with Tyler. The two groups came face to face. Caroline went upstairs with a calm expression. Just as she was about to disappear around the corner of the staircase, Caspian looked back.

He was at a hot-blooded age, and his infatuation with a mature woman was hard to shake off in a short time.

Although Caspian had been restraining himself, his eyes couldn't help but seek out her figure. He even waited by his office window every day to watch her come and go from work. Whenever he caught sight of Caroline, his mood would inexplicably lift.

After a busy morning, Leopold finally dealt with the franchise store issues. He closed his office door and sent Caroline a message.

Leopold: [Honey, are you busy?]

Caroline: [No, I'm about to go to the cafeteria for lunch.]

Leopold's call came through directly.

Caroline spoke frankly: "I made time to go to the hospital this morning. It's confirmed that the problem is with me."

She didn't continue. There was silence on the other end for a while.

Caroline heard sounds from the other end of the phone - it seemed Leopold had stood up from his chair and walked to the window. She heard the wind and the sound of a lighter igniting a cigarette.

Leopold exhaled smoke and said, "Caroline."

"What is it?"

"Whether we have kids or not, I don't care either way. But don't overthink this. Can you promise me that?"

Caroline's gaze froze slightly. Just as she had expected.

She laughed. "Okay."

"You have to promise." Leopold insisted stubbornly. He understood Caroline, and precisely because he understood her, he was afraid she would give up on their marriage.

Caroline said in a deliberately relaxed tone, "Okay, I promise. By the way, my mom contacted a hospital in Nexoria City for me. An old classmate of hers is a vice president there. She wants me to go get checked out again."

"You told Mom?"

"Yes. After I got the results, I went to see her. Something this big, I had to tell her."

"If you go to a different hospital, do all the tests have to be redone?" Leopold thought of her pain during the hysterosalpingography and didn't want Caroline to suffer that again.

"I'm not sure either. We'll know when we get there," Caroline replied.

Leopold could tell from her tone that she had decided to go for the checkup. "You've made up your mind?"

Caroline said, "I just can't give up. I want to go see."

"Alright." Leopold took out another cigarette from the pack. After lighting it, he said, "When you came out after the hysterosalpingography last time, I regretted making you do it. Another checkup... it hurts me just thinking about what you'll go through."

Actually, Caroline was afraid of pain too, but to give Leopold a more complete family, she was willing to endure the physical pain that came with the examination. "If there's more advanced technology that can cure me, this little bit of pain is nothing."

"How is it nothing?" Leopold felt an indescribable anxiety. He hated this uncontrollable situation, and was even more annoyed that he couldn't do anything. The cigarette between his fingers got crushed out of shape. "Fine, have you set a date yet?"

Caroline said, "Not yet. Mom will let me know once it's confirmed."

Over the next two days, Caroline followed the doctor's orders, maintaining good sleep and eating habits, keeping herself in a good mood, relaxing as much as possible, and taking her medicine on time.

During this period, she started searching online for all kinds of posts about female infertility, even checking links she wouldn't normally click on.

The medicine was harder to drink than she expected - bitter with a strange taste. She had to suck on a piece of candy to ease it.

Leopold also cut back on overtime, making time to be with Caroline.

She threw away the condoms from the nightstand. For someone with a body that didn't conceive easily, they were unnecessary.

She saw a post about a woman diagnosed as infertile who, through treatment and a good mindset, got pregnant after one harmonious sexual encounter.

This invisibly lit a lamp in Caroline's heart, making her eager to try it herself.

Maybe she could too.

When Leopold came home from work, Caroline hugged him as soon as he walked in.

Leopold grunted from the impact, holding Caroline in his arms. A low laugh came from his throat. "Why didn't you turn on the lights?"

Caroline felt his warm body through the darkness, slowly standing on her tiptoes, finding his lips and gently rubbing against them. "Today is my ovulation day."

In an instant, Leopold's breathing grew heavy. He cupped her face and sealed her tender lips.

The darkness weakened vision, but the sensation in his hands replaced his eyes.

Leopold carried her toward the bedroom. A slight coolness brushed across her skin, making her body tense.

Her hands were pinned above her head, his kisses wild and fierce.

By the moonlight, he could finally see her intoxicated expression - beautiful enough to make one's heart drunk, and drive him even crazier.

Caroline followed what she'd found on her phone - instead of getting up right away, she put a pillow under herself, waiting for a miracle to happen.

Leopold beside her was breathing heavily. He discovered that without protection, her body was too captivating, too attractive to him. He absolutely loved this feeling.

Some things become addictive with just one touch, just like her.

"No... it's not time yet." Caroline sensed something was wrong with him. Just as she was about to push him away, she heard his low, hoarse voice by her ear. "Don't say no. What I give you, you have to take all of it."

"Leopold!" Caroline had just cried out when he pulled her into his arms again.
