Chapter 95 CHAPTER 064
Chapter 95 CHAPTER 064
"I am sorry, ma'am. You can't leave. Orders from Mr. Dmitri." Creed repeats the mantra. I wonder if he even recognises me. He looks the same as three years ago. The stoic looking middle aged security agent that mans the main entrance to the mansion. I know he doesn't work alone, he is just the one that you see. And he is a mean looking bastard, I don't think I have ever seen him smile.
I am exasperated at this point. I am barely holding myself from lashing out at his cool demeanour as he sits there in his cubicle, eyes concealed behind thick dark glasses, big lips held in a straight line.
"I am literally going out to meet him. Should I call him and tell him you're being a stuck up and keeping him waiting?" I yell so my voice carries over across the partition of his cubicle. The glass looks solid and heavy but I know he can hear the slightest sound. Even though he keeps his expression neutral.
Creed turns his head to look at me, my lie must have gotten him to waver. I just have to keep my face confident so he doesn't suspect. I stare at his face, hopefully at his eyes half covered by those damn shades.
He turns away, opens his mouth to repeat his spiel about me not leaving because Linc ordered it and I decide to up it a notch. I pick my phone and press it to my ear.
"Linc? I know I am late! Your dumb security wouldn't let me through. He is the one you should be mad at!" I yell, acting as frustrated as I feel. It is not hard to pretend, I am barely keeping myself from flying into a fit of rage.
I don't know if I wanted to really leave before, but being faced with this obstacle now, I suddenly feel caged with the compulsion to leave more than anything. Just for a few hours. I suddenly feel the need for a breath of fresh air.
My phone is with me. I am not going to miss Tyler's call. It is still morning, my reasoning is that he would at least wait till it is late night before accepting that I would not be fulfilling his demands. I have got a few hours to relax and just enjoy time out with my best friend. I need it more than anything now. I can't stay cooped up in that huge house all alone. Fuck Linc for leaving. He could have at least have me tag along. But he is always wanting to hide things from me, treating me like a fucking child that can't handle tough situations.
Creed whips his head to look at me, I glare at him, the phone is still stuck to my ear, giving the impression that I am still talking to a very pissed Linc. I see the confusion pass across his face, he can't tell if I am serious or bluffing.
"I think you should fire him. I can't believe I have to deal with this shit. I am going back. Blame him for this." I fire up the engine like I want to turn around, and Creed jumps into action. I hear the huge gate click open and I keep my smile to myself. He would never trust me when he realises I just played him but I don't care. I drive out the gate with barely concealed glee.
The drive is quiet and short. When I pull into my street, with its high rise luxurious lines of apartment complexes and chains of high-end restaurants, I dial Ashley's number to tell her I am close.
"Oh...okay." I don't know if I am crazy but Ashley doesn't sound like herself. I have noticed this since earlier when she called and it is even more glaring now. A chill passes down my spine and I try to shake it off.
"Ashley...are you okay?" I ask, genuinely concerned. I am the one in deep shit right now but I can put all that aside to be there for my best friend if she is going through something.
"Uh, it is nothing. You say you are here already? I don't know if I want to do brunch again."
"What the hell?" I blurt out as I pull into the underground parking lot of my apartment complex. Now I can't ignore the weirdness. This doesn't seem like Ashley at all.
"Just go back, Amelia. Don't come here. I changed my mind. I can't do this."
"What are you talking about? I am in the parking lot, I will be up in a minute. You have to tell me what is up with you. You know we can work around anything." I kill the engine and step out, Ashley's breathing over the phone is now audible and I get a bad feeling settle in the pit of my stomach.
