Chapter 153: Identity

Emily was excited to resume work; she felt so happy as she dressed up for work, and Grace barged into her room to show her the ring.

“It's about time for real!”She exclaimed happily, Grace chuckled and sat down on her bed.

“You are so happy to resume work,” Grace told her, and she nodded.

“Even more, I have a date with Jason tonight”

She stated. Happily; Grace smiled as she got rid of little impulsive thoughts.

“Alright I'll see you after work” She stood up to go,

“What? Are you not coming to the firm, you know they sacked General John right, come to work, the workers will have enough to tell us”

Emily tried but Grace shook her head.

“Mr Ethan needs me at the house and Lucas is coming with me too so maybe we will resume tomorrow he also said you would give them a speech at work, chief consultant”

Grace uttered and laughed, Emily smiled.

Lucas and Grace met Mr Victor at Mr Ethan's house in a heated argument, it was almost leading to a fight when they arrived, Lucas rushed and held Mr Ethan just before he released a blow on Mr Victor's face

“What the fuck! what's going on?”He uttered staring at all of them, Grace chuckled and stepped in

“Grown-ass men fighting each other”, She muttered and sat on a nearby chair.

“And before y'all start explaining why you're fighting, we need to know why we are here”

She added, Mr. Ethan shrugged his shoulders.

“Let's talk at the back, just you and me”

He told her and walked off, Grace sighed and followed suit.

Meanwhile, Micheal sat on the porch, his head buried in his palms

“What the hell was I doing?”He murmured and stood up; he felt all the hate and jealousy he had towards Lucas bouncing back at him. He paced up and down, stomping his feet as he did.

He had this murderous feeling against the general, Mrs Silver and Dr Richardson, but he tried to swallow it; he sat on the porch again and wondered why the general was arrested, and he wasn't.

“Why?”He wondered, so he stood up suddenly and headed for the station.

Grace walked out from the backyard furiously and headed down the road, Lucas tried to follow her but she stopped him

“I want to be alone,” She told him and hurried off.

She took a cab downtown to the beach, found a quiet spot and sat down, fresh tears poured down her face as she recalled what Mr. Ethan told her.

She took off the engagement ring and lay on the sand very close to the waterside; she placed the ring before her and allowed the waves coming from the ocean to splash on her; she hoped they'd carry the ring along with them.

Grace realized how she was completely alone without her mother, she craved to talk to someone as the truth was too heavy for her

“Goodness, I might die” She murmured and held her chest. Suddenly someone touched her from behind,

“Why did you follow me? I told you I wanted to be alone.”She uttered and turned to stare at the person thinking it was Lucas.

“Jay ” " she muttered, staring at him and wiping the tears of her face. Jason took a deep breath and sat next to her.

“What's going on Grace? Lucas pleaded with me to come here,” He told her; Grace inhaled deeply.

“Can you believe it?-She stared at him

“Can I believe what?”He asked, staring at her deeply.

“Gabriel is my father, and-, and Ethan knew, my mom knew they all didn't tell me until now-

“Well I think you should keep your mom out of this” Jason uttered, he paused and saw the ring lying on the sand

“You will need a bigger wave for that little metal to float away,” He told her. Grace threw her face away.

“Grace listen, there should be a reason why they've kept this, Ethan knew and yet he stood in as a father figure-

“I don't care!”She yelled, Jason took a deep breath.

“Why did you take off your ring though?”He asked,

“Well Ethan kept going on and on about it, said it's better I call it off, that Gabriel and Victor were like brothers-

“As long as they are not related I think you should ignore Ethan,” Jason told her.

“I don't know Jay, he might just be right i mean Lucas almost killed me-

“And so did you, if you think you want to hold grudges then I think it should be on Mr Ethan, I'm off-

He stood up and wiped the sand out of his trousers

“Call me if you need to talk more about it; I have a date to catch up.”He smirked and left.

Grace stared at the ring on the sand for some time; she picked it up and dusted it; if only these were the only thing bothering her. Mr. Ethan's reason for her to end things with Lucas was not quite right but there was one more, the one about her mother.

Grace stood up and took a deep breath, she threw the ring into her pocket and stood, staring at the ocean.

“Excuse me, you ordered a bolt?”

A man walked up to her, she nodded and followed the man to his cab

“Take me to Cory Hotel, please”, She uttered as they drove off.

Lucas sat in his bedroom; he regretted every bit of his miserable and prideful past life. He dialled Grace's number for the tenth time, but it was still on voicemail. Jason had already got back to him and told him to give her some time, but he wasn't sure he had that kind of patience; he needed Grace right there by his side.

He stepped outside; his compound was once more the real Lucas's mansion, with bodyguards everywhere and workers trying to round up for the day; everything was normal except for the fact that Grace was acting funny.
