Chapter 70
MILA
I slowly opened my eyes, but I couldn't figure out if I was sleeping or not.
I adjusted to my surroundings and realized that I wasn't in the car anymore, and I instantly sat up.
I looked around and noticed Archer sleeping next to me, his head resting on some pole.
The room we were in was completely dark and damp. The smell was nothing nice either, but there was nothing besides concrete and rumble on the ground. I moved slightly and realized I was sitting on something soft.
Well, soft is not the word I would describe, but my ass wasn't on the floor. It was a mattress and looked like it had seen better days.
I looked around to see if I could find Luke, but there was no sign of him.
Where the hell are we? I thought.
"Mila," whispers Sapphire. "What are you doing awake?"
She yawns straight after asking the question and slowly stretches in my head. Once she shakes out her fur and is up on all fours, she comes closer to see what I was looking at.
"Where are we?" she asks, feeling her anxiety taking over.
We knew Aria would be looking for us, but I would know that if she had caught us, we would have been dead.
Sapphire looked through, and I turned to look at Archer once again. His eyes were open, but they were all white.
Drack.
"Drack," I asked.
He nodded.
"Human too tired to wake up, and I could sense little wolf anxiety come through," he said. "Everything ok?"
I stared at him and crossed my legs on the mattress.
"I'm ok," I said. "But where the hell are we? And where the hell is Luke?"
Drack cocks his head to the side but looks around the room. But his eyes land on me, "we came here to rest, little wolf," he says. "Luke had to go and look for a store to buy some supplies for us."
I stared at him and nodded.
I stayed quiet, not saying a word.
I could feel my power running through me. I was on edge, but I don't know whether it was because I had a mad witch after me or for leaving my family behind.
My mind went to Emily, and my heart ached for her. She was going through the loss of losing her parents, and I wasn't there to help her. I know she has Gloria, but I want to be there for her too.
Then there was Nate, and my mind always went to him when I least expected it to. This whole mate thing is strange, especially knowing he can change his mind about us. I hope he uses this time we are away to make sure he knows what he wants.
"Would you accept him as our mate?" asks Sapphire, pulling me from my thoughts. I looked at her as she lay back down, but her head was to the side, staring at me. She could sense what I was thinking.
I sighed. "I don't know. I guess everything is harder for us as we have to defeat a witch who wants our blood but also save her children so she can't use them," I said. "My head is all over the place. I need to think about one thing at a time, but he keeps coming into my head."
Sapphire stares but doesn't say anything.
"Sapphire, I want to accept him. I do," I say to her. "But I don't know if I can look past the fact that he was willing to have someone else and us to be with him. He hurt me with that girl he was with, and I felt everything. We both did. But saying that," I sighed. "He has shown that he can change. I know he wants us, but I know I am the moon goddess's descendant and have power puts it into context. Does he want us for the power or just us?"
Sapphire pounders over what I just told her, and she sighs. "I think we should concentrate on finding the children, send them home to mate, and once we have them, we can leave and take on that stupid witch," she says with a low growl slipping out.
Someone cleared their throat, and I looked over to see Archer staring back at me.
I smiled.
"Little dove, were you and Sapphire talking," he asks in a gruff voice.
I nodded. Archer looked like he needed a few days of sleep and a hot bath. I have to admit he did look rough, his stumble showing, and the black circles under his eyes were prominent.
Archer stared at me and smiled. "What's wrong?" he asked.
I stare at him for a while without saying anything.
I know Archer is my guardian, but I feel slightly weird talking about Nate to him.
I sighed. "I was wondering where Luke was?" I asked, completely avoiding the question he asked.
Archer raised his eyebrows at me. "Little dove, you can always talk to me about your mate. I will help in any way I can, and not only that, I am a man, so I have some idea what he might be thinking," he says.
I smirked. "Well, I don't think you would hurt your mate like he did with me," I said. "But honestly, I need to stop thinking about him. I need to concentrate on one thing at a time, and the first thing I think is we need to start looking into finding the children."
Archer looked at me for a moment and nodded. "I think you are right; we need to find the children first, but we also need you to learn how to control your power. I mean, I can feel it more through our bond, but I imagine that others out there with power may feel it more, and I am worried that we might attract the wrong crowd."
"Aria," I said with a snarl slipping through my lips.
Archer nods, "yes, but not just her. There are other supernatural beings out there that might want to use you as a pawn in this war we have going on," he says. "Everyone who spots power either craves it or will use it for their own gain and advantage."
A thought came into my head, "as George did with me," I said.
Guilt takes over my insides, but Archer moves straight in front of me and places his hand on my face, making me look at him. "Little dove, everything that happened wasn't your fault, you know that right," he says.
I can't help the tears that slip past my eyes and run down my cheeks.
Archer uses his finger to catch them and wipe them away. "Sweet little dove, George was never meant to have you. He used you to make himself powerful. But he works for Aria, and what Emily told the others, George destroyed everything in his wake to get everything she needed or wanted, even hurting his own family in the process," he says. "Little dove, you are not to blame for any of this; the only person to blame is that slut witch."
I stared at him.
I couldn't say anything to him; I was heartbroken again.
Archer leans forward and places a kiss on my head, and he rests his head on mine as I close my eyes. I need to get it together.
Suddenly we hear a door banging and footsteps walking toward the door.
I pull back and stare at the door. Archer was staring at me, "it's Luke," he said.
I don't say anything.
After a few moments, the door opens, and in walks Luke with three plastic bags full of stuff.
Luke closed the door behind him and looked toward us. "What's wrong?" he asked as he searched my face and then looked at Archer.
I glanced back at Archer, who was still staring at me.
He smiled.
"We were just having a moment," he says and gently taps my hand as he slowly gets up. He stands and holds his hand out to me, which I take instantly.
Archer pulls me up, and I stand in front of him.
"I hope you are both hungry; I got three gigantic boxes here with burgers for each of us," says Luke.
The mention of food and my stomach lets everyone know I'm hungry.
I couldn't help but blush.
"I guess Mila is first," says Luke with a slight laugh.
Luke gets a box out and hands it to me; I take it from him and sit back down on the mattress.
I opened it, and there in front of me were the two most giant burgers with every topping on them. My mouth was watering, and so was Sapphire as she looked at it.
I grabbed one and took a giant bite out of it. Most of the toppings fell into the box, but I didn't care. As soon as the burger was in my mouth, I couldn't help but close my mouth and moan, but the moan that escaped my mouth sounded like something you would hear from someone who was having sex.
I could feel eyes on me, and I opened my eyes to find Luke and Archer watching me with smirks.
"Sounds like you are enjoying that Mila," says Luke.
I nod as I take another bite of the burger.
Both men sat down and started to eat, and Archer moaned as me as he took a big bite of his burger.
"Jeez, you two either haven't had any in a while, or you missed food," Luke says with a grin.
I looked at him but didn't say anything.
I had no clue what he was on about.
"He was on about sex," says Sapphire with a smirk.
It was hard to meet someone in the town who would never go near me as I was the only wolf in town. I didn't say anything; I never had sex. Saying that I never did anything; I mean, not even kissed anyone.
I could feel Luke stare at me, but I moved my eyes to the bags.
"What's in the rest of the bags?" I asked, changing the subject.
Luke smirked.
"Let's say we will be heading out after these, and I am going to give both of you a new look," he says. "We need to disguise you; I mean to make you less you."
I frowned.
I was never one for makeovers, but the way he looked at me had me questioning what he was planning.
"Oh, don't worry Mila, you won't be the only one getting a disguise either," he says with a huge grin. He turns to Archer, who is now glaring at him.
"This old man has never changed his look, so he has to have a new look too," he says.
I looked at Archer, who looked like he either wanted to kill Luke or was it worry on his face.
It was hard to tell, but judging his face, he didn't want the makeover just as much as I didn't.
