You Are My Comfort Zone
You Are My Comfort Zone
Sophie
After dinner, we all went our separate ways. I missed nights like this; when all was normal and we had no worries but to enjoy our youth.
It seems that the closer we get to graduation, the more real adulthood gets, and by all means, adulthood is not always pretty. I see how stressed out daddy gets helping out mom with her radiation and traveling to and from work every day.
He's so strong. He never complaints about anything. He simply helps and puts on a happy smile. Deep down, I know he's hurting. He's hurting just as mom is, or more.
Logan and I made our way to his car after saying goodbye to our friends and headed to his house. I have spent so little time in his house lately. He's been at my house mainly because he knows I want to be close to mom.
Tonight we will spend the night at his place. Mom had to see her doctor in New York this weekend, so she will be gone for the past three or four days along with dad.
This time, my brothers decided to drag along. So, I'm here by myself for the first time in so long.
I didn't want to be alone at home, just as I know Logan hates the empty feel of Ashley's absence in his house. Everyone can feel the melancholic feel in the air from her absence.
We headed towards his house in his car. The town was quiet since most people were still at the fair. The only sound was of his car engine. I love the roar of his engine. I can never get enough of how cool it sounds.
He parked his car in his driveway, placed it in park, and silenced the engine.
"Are you tired?" He asked, stroking my cheek slowly with the back of his finger. I turned my body towards him, placing my head against the seat.
"A little. How about you? You walked a lot today, and your ankle is just healing. Are you ok?" I asked him, concerned that he may feel a by of discomfort in the ligaments of his ankle.
He chuckles, looking down. He slowly grabs my hand, takes a quick glimpse at the ring he gave me, and kisses my hand.
"I'm fine baby girl. Now let's go get some rest." He says, gesturing towards his house. I smile and open the door of the car, getting out at the same time as he.
We walk hand in hand towards the door and wait for him to open the door. Once inside, we head straight to the room where I let my body fall right in the middle of his bed.
He chuckled seeing me flop on the bed while he makes his way towards his desk. He quickly places his wallet, keys, and phone on top. His phone vibrates as soon as he places it down, making him grab it.
"Hey Derreck, what's going on?" He responds, scratching the back of his head and clearing his throat.
I'm not quite sure what Derreck is telling him, all I can make out ate the 'ah-hmm,' and the 'right, 'responses from Logan. It makes me antsy to know what's going on. I hope things are going ok with the case.
"Are you serious? He said he'll settle?" Logan responds making my heart raise. I hadn't even realized I was eating my nail like crazy just listening to him.
"What do you mean he wants compensation in exchange? How much?" He adds making me tilt my head to the side and furrow my eyebrows in confusion.
God, I hope he's not trying to take Ash for good and cause collateral damage to Mrs. Spencer's catering business. She has been doing so good, despite this dispute with her ex-husband.
"Son of a bitch. I knew telling him about it would ruin me one day."
Derreck continues to speak, Logan places his hand on his hip as he begins to pace from one side of the room to the other.
"I'm not going to make mom pay him. He knows mom doesn't have that much money. He's an asshole, he's just playing his last dirty card to get his way. No, I know. I know." Logan adds as the curiosity mounts in me to know what they are saying.
Could it be, that Mr. Spencer is trying to take advantage of the situation and take everything away from Riley? He's Playing dirty, so dirty, and I don't like it.
If I had to, I'd ask dad to help them. I don't want to see them hurt. They mean so much to me. Logan means so much to me.
"Hold on. Let me check? Look, we need to include my assets in the settlement. I want him completely out of all my assets and after I give him the settlement, I want him to also sign a waiver from the properties, including the one by the lake. That belongs to me, and I want him out of my escrow as a co-signer." I close my eyes shaking my head slightly as he continues to talk.
He quickly grabs his laptop and starts it up. Soon as it's on, he opens his web and logs into his bank card.
The same card he always keeps to the very back of his wallet, that I've never used. It looked just like dad's card, but dad only uses it for business. Dad likes to invest now and then, which is why we were able to afford to expand the vineyard and still pay for all of mom's treatment.
I didn't want to be nosy, so I grabbed my pj's out of the closet and went into the restroom to change.
I took my time washing up, combing my hair, and brushing my teeth. When I was done, I went back to the room where he was already done with his conversation.
"Hey? Everything ok?" I asked as I slowly walked up to him. His hands were in the back of him as he leaned against the wall and had his head tilt back towards the heavens.
He sighed and opened his eyes.
"Hi, beautiful. Everything is fine. It looks like everything will finally come to an end. Though it's going to cost a good penny." He says as I come close, making him pull me by my waist.
I hugged him tightly, burying my head in his chest, and sighed.
"Os Ashley coming back soon?" I asked, concerned about her well-being.
"Dad is willing to drop the case against mom and give up partial custody as long as we agree to his settlement. We have to meet with him on March 5th. He'll be coming down to meet with our lawyer and sign over Ashley's custody and drop the charges against mom."
"That's great. Isn't it? How much is he asking for?" I dared to ask.
"2 million. He wants half as soon as we sign the settlement. The other million a week after." My mouth gawked open as I heard his words.
I could not believe my ears. I mean, a few thousand sounds reasonable, but two million? Are you for real?
"What? Where are we going to get that much money from? Is he out of his mind? How can he do this to your mom? Oh my God, Logan, I'm sorry, I know he's your dad, but he is such an asshole." I fumed with anger. I couldn't believe what he was telling me.
Logan chuckles, pulling me tight against him. "And this is why I love you. You always make me feel at ease. You're my comfort zone. My little calm in between the storm. I love you, Soph." He says kissing my lips and tightening his hold on me.
"I already gave Derreck my information. He'll take care of everything. The sooner we get it done, the better." He calmly says as he sighs, placing his forehead against mine.
"I miss that brat, Soph. I miss her so much. This house just isn't the same without her." He whispers making me feel remorseful.
"I know, you do. I miss her too. This town, in general, isn't the same without her. She needs to hurry up and come back." I say, trailing my hands around his waist and resting my head on his chest.
Logan and I say for a while, he knew I was curious about the conversation he had with Derreck.
He finally told me about his investments and stock shares. I was shocked to find out he was the shareholder of a few companies, international and national companies with high prestige.
It was no wonder he didn't mind giving his dad the two million. Though it was still way too much for my mind to comprehend. Logan seems like your typical teenage boy, with them all-American charm, but he was far too smart and extremely rich. It made me feel inferior to him. Almost as if we suddenly didn't belong to the same world.
I wasn't sure how much he really has, I didn't want to ask. All I know is that his dad knows part of all the business he does, and keeps most of it hidden from his dad. It's almost as if he knew one day his dad would ask him for money.
"Come here you. Let's get to bed." He says pulling me by my waist and pressing his lips against mine.
And just like that, like he always does... His kiss melts me, and we get lost in the heat of our pleasure. Whatever he has, is his business. All I know is that to me, Logan is Logan, the golden-brown, green-eye hottie that stole my heart. I could never be more proud of him for looking out for his mom and Ash. It makes me know that one day he will be an amazing father and a great lawyer.
