Mom Is Sick

Mom Is Sick
Sophie

Logan lead me to the reception and helped me fill out the necessary documentation for mom while she was taken in.

Everything seemed so surreal.

Am I dreaming? I must be dreaming, right?

I- I don't understand what is happening. Everyone seemed to walk about unbothered, while I on the other hand felt my world kept crashing each time I tried to place a piece back into place.

I was so scared, hoping it was nothing and mom would be ok.

She is probably just suffering from jet lag. I mean, she has been traveling far more frequently than before. Her body is just tired of going back and forth from New York and back. Right?

Logan was talking on the phone while finishing the papers and giving them back to the nurse in the reception. She smiled weakly and asked us to take a seat. But how could I sit? I had to know mom was ok. Gosh, I didn't even have the head to fill out her paperwork. Yet, Logan somehow had managed to do it for me.

"When can I see her? Is she going to be ok? Who's the doctor looking after her right now?" I asked the nurse?

"Relax sweetheart. The doctor will be right out and talk to you, ok? For now, have a seat. We'll call you once we have any updates." She said calmly.

I sighed, closing my eyes and pushing myself off her desk.

Logan ended his call, running his hand through the back of his neck. He glanced over towards me, clenching his jaw.

"Logan, I, um, thank you. You didn't have to come. Thank you for being here with me. I-I didn't know who else to call."

"Don't worry about it. Let's - just wait for the doctor to see how your mom is, ok? Why don't you take a seat for now?" He said sitting and gesturing for me to sit down and.

I sighed, hanging my head and closing my eyes.

"Sophie? Logan. Oh God, Logan thank you for coming son. How is she? Did the doctor come out to speak with you guys already?" Dad suddenly came towards us. He looked just as concerned as we did. Logan stood quickly and hugged dad after dad hugged me first.

"Hey, Richard. No, not yet. The doctor hasn't come out yet, but I'm sure she's ok. Did she perhaps have a change in her medication? It could be a side effect of the medicine, don't you think? I mean, she seemed fine a few days ago. I thought she said the medication was working out for her, what happened?" Logan asked dad.

Wait- what? Meditation? What in the world were they talking about? Mom's not sick. Is she?

"She did. The doctor was concerned with the procedures, the radiation wasn't working as planned and the medicine needed to be changed. It could be her body is going through CINV. Her doctor did mention that her emetogenic potentiality may be at high risk for nausea and vomiting because of the new medicine." Dad explained. Logan nodded as if he knew exactly what dad was talking about, which is all just making me more confused.

What in the world was going on?

Mom was sick, and I didn't know? Hell- even Logan knew. Why was I left in the dark about this? Why was I just finding out now?

My mouth was gaped open, and my eyes were wide in shock. "What?" I whispered, but they had both managed to hear me.

They both looked towards me, realizing I stood listening to every word they said.

"Oh, Sophie. Honey, I- we- we wanted to tell you, honey. It's just, we wanted to wait for a right time, and-"

"I- I don't understand. Mom is sick? Like, sick-sick? Or, just sick? What is going on dad? And you? You knew, and you didn't tell me? How could you? Both of you." I uttered out. My voice quivered, fighting back the knot on my throat.

"Sophie, your mom wanted us to-" Dad began to explain.

"Save it. I can't believe you two. How could you keep something so sensitive from me? How?" I reprimanded them both, making them look towards each other with a guilty stare.

"Hailey Patterson?" The doctor called out from the door, making us turn towards him.

"Yeah, that's us. Doc, how's my wife?" Dad said, his hand on his hip, while he tried to avoid my death-glare.

"Me. Patterson, good to meet you, sir. Your wife is stable. She's resting now. It looks like it was just a side effect from her medicine. Nothing too serious to worry about. I just need to go over a few procedures with you if I may ask you to follow me to my office. I will need to keep her overnight for observation though." The doctor explained as he gestured dad towards his office.

The nurse that had followed right behind smiled and turned on her heel to leave.

"Wait. Nurse?" I asked, making her turn back.

"Yes?"

"Can I see my mom?" I asked her, hoping for approval.

"Of course. She's probably asleep now, but you can come in for a few minutes to see her if you'd like." She said leading the way.

"I guess I should go home then. Tell her I said hi and hope she gets well on my behalf when she wakes up." Logan said waving at us and turning on his heel.

Though I was upset that he and dad knew about mom's state, I didn't want him to leave. I need him here. I need him by my side.

I quickly stopped him. Hugging him around his waist. His back against my body as I held him, pressing my cheek against his back.

"Please don't leave me. Please, Logan, don't leave yet." I begged him.

He sighed, leaning his head back and slowly pulling my arms away.

"I'll stay a little longer. But soon I'll have to go. Wouldn't want to be here when your boyfriend finally decides to show up." He explained making my heart ache.

I knew he was referring to Troy. He still believed I was unfaithful. I guess Troy had not clarified things yet; and though I wish I could appeal the case, I didn't have the energy and desire to better things for me now.

Besides, it was a done deal that things were over between us. I was lucky enough to at least have him here with me now, but after today, I'd probably never speak to him again.

"Logan, I-"

"Let's go." He said dryly, walking past me and to the direction of mom's room.

We slowly enter her room. She laid asleep on that small hospital bed. She looked so frail. Like a china doll that had been neglected for a long time.

I gasped, turning away from her. Logan took me in his arms as he saw the tears in my eyes.

"How could I've not noticed? She looks so weak. Be honest with me Logan. I know you know what's wrong with my mom. Tell me." I demanded, pushing myself away from him.

"I think this is something you have to talk to her about. I'm sorry, but I promised her-"

"Bull shit. How could you keep this from me?" I responded angrily trying to keep my voice down and my anger under control.

"Why? are we really doing this right now? You wanna talk about who's the real hypocrite here? You two-time me with your best friend. You broke my fucking heart, and played me, Soph. This?" He said pointing to mom.

"This is a whole different matter. I respected your mom's wish. She is the only one entitled to give you an explanation. Not me." He said trying to walk away.

I wanted to argue my case. Was it really over between us? I wanted to explain to him that I had never cheated on him. I wanted to yell out to him the reason why Troy was there that day, and why there could never be anything between T and me. I wanted to tell him I still loved him, instead, I began to cry silently again.

"Logan, please!"

"Whatever Soph. I'm out. In the end, I want you to know, I really did love you."

"Logan, I love you. I do. You're the only one, you've always been the only one. I swear."

"Then why did you cheat on me, Soph?"

"I didn't Logan, I swear. Please, let me just explain." I whispered back, tugging on his shirt.

"Hello?" Lexie called out, opening the door slowly, making Logan and I turn.

Lexie and Troy walked in, making Logan clench his jaw.

"Well well, the other boyfriend finally decides to show up," Logan says towards Troy.

"Ok, doc. Thank you very much. We'll keep in touch." Dad walks right behind Troy, making Logan clear his throat.

"Hey, guys. Glad to see the gang is all here. Thank you for coming by. Logan, do me a favored son." Dad asks Logan making Logan glance at dad.

"Anything sir," Logan responds making dad chuckle.

"My wife had just talked to me a few minutes before this whole incident happened. I guess she was worried about Sophie. She hasn't eaten in days." Dad scolded me with his stare.

I was so filled with worriedness from this whole event, I had forgotten that I, in fact, hadn't eaten since days ago. Yet, I wasn't hungry at all.

Logan looked at me, making me walk away.

Logan followed right behind, pulling me back by my arm once we were by the sitting area.

"What is your dad talking about? Why haven't you eaten anything Sophie?" He demanded making me scuff.

"What? Now you're worried about me? Just go home, Logan. We both know you can care less about being here for me. You only came for my mom. Thankfully, you saw she's ok. So you can go now. Free of guilt. Right?"

"Stop acting like a kid Soph. This is bad for your health. You're being irrational and very childish. Let's go." He said pulling my arm.

"No. Now get out. " I protested, pulling my arm away.

"Oh for fucks sake, woman." He said, complaining and turning around to face me.

"Fuck it." He said, pulling my arm and throwing me on his shoulder.

"Logan? Put me down. What are you doing?"

"Shut up. You're making a scene. Stop acting like a fucking brat." He said, walking with me on his shoulder out of the sitting area all the way to the elevator.

Once inside, he placed me down harshly, making my back crash against the wall.

"Oww!"

"Well, what'd you expect? Prince charming? I was that, and you stepped all over me. Now deal with it." Logan sneered, placing me between his arms and the elevator wall.

A few hours later

Lexie

Logan and Sophie had come back without a word after they had left earlier. Since then Sophie has been sitting next to me. Dylan came right after football practice as well and fell asleep after a while.

I was worried -to say the least- about the two. They are both so in love.

I hate that this misunderstanding is getting in the way of their relationship.

I had to find a way to make things better for them, and Troy as well.

Though, frankly, Troy needs to stop being so scared and screw people. Dylan makes him happy, I know it. I just wish he could stop being scared and embrace the relationship he has with Dylan.

Seems that everyone was willing to stay here for the night. Mr. P had asked us to go home, but we all wanted to make sure Mrs. P was ok. To me, she was like a second mom, that's why we were here until tomorrow when she'd go home.

Logan was beginning to fall asleep, and Sophie was asleep on the chair next to me.

Dylan and T had taken advantage that Logan was asleep to chat, and of course, I couldn't help but listen.

"I tried. You saw me earlier in the week, ok? I tried explaining to him, but he just didn't believe me." Troy whispered to Dylan.

"So then. What are you going to do?" Dylan asked T.

"I don't know. I have to find a way to clear this misunderstanding."

"But how?" Dylan asked.

"I don't know. But I'll find a way, I promise." Troy said caressing Dylan's jaw, quickly pulling away when a nurse passed by.

"Seriously? Fuck this T," Dylan said standing quickly.

"Dylan wait. Please."

"Are you kidding? No one really cares T. No one but you cares whether you're gay it not. You are the one who judges yourself harsher than anyone else. I want to be with you, T. I do. But how can we when you pull away while being in public with me? I mean, look at them?" Dylan whispered yell as I pretended to sleep as well.

"They broke up because she kept your stupid secret. Can you live with yourself knowing she's heartbroken because of this? Because of us? Look at Logan? He adores that girl, and he's done so much for her. You're stealing their happiness, and all because you are just too damn scared." Dylan whispered yell at T, scolding him again.

"I know, Dylan. I promised her I'd fix things, and I will. I'll find a way, I swear. Just, don't be mad, please?" T pleaded with Dylan.

It wasn't long before I peeked at them, Troy held Dylan's hand and squeezed it, making Dylan chuckle.

"You owe me big time. I don't know how, but you need to make it up to me. You know that?" Dylan said to T making me chuckle internally.

They were so focused on each other that they forgot all about me.

"Oh really? I can do that. How do you want me to make it up?" Troy asked, biting his bottom lip, and blushing.

This was it. If I knew these two, they were horny-toads right now. Sorry buddy, but this was my chance to do you four a favor and clear this shit-smell misunderstanding.

"I have an idea how you can make it up to me." Dylan leaned over biting T's neck slightly. Holy shit. Things were getting spicy between these two.

Dylan got up and pulled T along with him.

We were in a small sitting area, and the only restrooms were either in the patient rooms or the unisex bathroom right by the vending machine.

"Now or never Lexie." I encouraged myself. I bumped onto Logan's seat purposely waking him up.

"Sorry, Logan." I apologized.

"It's fine. No worries." He responded.

"Where are the guys?" He asked looking around.

"Oh, they stepped out for a while. Probably hungry or something, you know?" I smiled and sat back down, acting as if I was just coming back in.

Logan stood up, stretching a bit.

"Where are you going?" I asked curiously.

"I'm getting some coffee. Would you like one?" He asked.

"No thanks. Oh, darn it. Could you do me a favor though, I think I left my wallet in the bathroom next to the machines, could you check for me before someone else grabs it?" I asked sheepishly.

The bathroom had a broken lock, I know because I had already gone. I almost walked in on an elder lady peeing.

Yes, I know, you're thinking how fucked up I am setting up Logan on a scary predicament, but- fuck it. Sophie is my best friend too. I love this girl, and I've had enough of seeing her cry every day I go drop off her school work.

Logan nodded his head and walked away, I slowly tiptoed behind to see their reaction, hoping and praying that things would soon be revealed and misunderstandings finally become clear.

Am I evil?? Probably.

Do I care? Will I regret it? Probably not.
