Chapter 16 Chapter 16
"If you think she is not well, then we need to get the healer to come check on her," Kendrick said, meaning every word. But Warrick had a mischievous look on.
"There'll be no need for that. I think I have the right medicine for her–"
Ryker punched him on the shoulder. "We could tame her, discipline her to the calm little wolf you want as a mate, right Warrick?" he asked and bit his bottom lip as he rubbed his chest.
Kendrick realized what they meant and he shook his head. "I think it's the both of you that are sick."
Fresh fumes of anger arose in her chest as she watched them talk and describe her as crazy. "I'm not crazy," she snapped.
Warrick raised his brows and stared at her. "You behave like you do."
She gritted her teeth and narrowed her eyes at him. The side of his lips rose in a smirk and she pulled at the tie on her hand. "Just you wait, once I get free from this I will show you your place, you egoistic punk."
"See, I told ya– she's gone gaga," Warrick rolled his index finger by the side of his head for his brother and then started to head for the door.
"I hate you," she growled after him.
He paused, holding the door knob. "I–" he started, her heart stopped as she waited for his response, would he say he hated her too? Jerk!
He smacked his lips. "Unfortunately. I do not know what to feel about you." he said and went out the door.
Her chest heaved– In relief? She didn't know.
How would she be relieved that he didn't tell her he hated her too? Why did what he said even matter, he was a jerk to her and she just wanted to get away from him.
She faced Ryker and he winked at her before he turned and left. Kendrick turned to leave without even looking at her. "Kendrick," she called, softly. She had never used this tone on him since she met him. But he seemed to be the most understanding.
He paused. It was just her and him now. She hoped he would listen to her. She noticed the tenderness in his eyes when he looked at her.
"Are you going to leave me here too?" she asked him. He faced her slowly, forehead creased, his eyes so soft– it made her yearn for a hug.
Her chest heaved. "Let me go– if we were meant to be together, I would come back, but I don't want to be chased, caught and kept like some animal."
He gulped. "I can't let you go." He shook his head, avoiding her eyes.
She furrowed her brows. "Why?" she asked him.
He nodded. "Because, we are not just mates– you’re the upcoming Luna of this pack and that decision might affect my pack members."
"Why?" she asked, her voice shook and tears welled up in her eyes. "What are they you people? These phrases you use, how you’re so powerful. I don’t get it."
He gritted his teeth. "I wish I didn’t have to get you involved with us. But I had no choice, the moon goddess had chosen for us. Soon, I will explain everything to you."
She nodded, heaving a deep breath, "I'm–" her stomach growled and completed her sentence.
He smirked. "Hungry?" He asked.
"Famished," she corrected. He shook his head and tried touching her hair and she shifted off involuntarily. He smiled.
"It's fine. You are adorable."
She gritted her teeth, awkwardly, not sure how to reply to him. "Food please?" she asked, blinking at him.
He nodded and took a few steps away.
"What are you still doing here?" The door burst open and Warrick poked his head inside. She rolled her eyes as he spoiled the calm atmosphere in the room. "Don't tell me you are trying to free her?"
Kendrick shook his head as his shoulder slugged. "Warrick, she is not a prisoner. We should free her soon."
“Thank you,” she said to Kendrick in her mind.
Warrick chuckled as he entered. She frowned as he approached them. "You should go with him, I didn't want to see him," she told Kendrick.
"See, she doesn't want to see you, because you are being too harsh on her," Kendrick grumbled as he approached Warrick.
Warrick laughed out loud, it ached in her head, making her ears ring. "Whether she wants to see me or not, just make her understand that she is not leaving this room anytime soon."
She glared at him. The nerve of this Warrick, to think he would keep her a prisoner for as long as he wanted.
Kendrick furrowed his brows. "Don't be harsh, man. I don't want to have to bring this to Dad."
Warrick gasped. "Shoot. Dad?"
"Yes, Dad." Kendrick said. "You know he would never support keeping the poor little girl as hostage in our room, whether she was my mate or not."
Warrick nodded and tapped his shoulder. "That shouldn't be your worry now, poor Kendrick."
Kendrick raised his brows. "What's the matter?" He asked.
"Mum is back and she brought Daciana with her, your substitute Luna," Warrick replied.
Kendrick gasped and staggered back. "Mum is back? She’s with Daciana?" He asked twice.
Warrick smirked and turned to her. "She said, you would have your anniversary ceremony by the weekend. Don't worry about your poor little, sexy, human mate. I will take care of her."
Kendrick punched him in the gut. "There'll be no need for that, jerk."
