Chapter 60 Flogged till unable to breathe
Lilac's sneered at Barney.
“How is this a private matter? You wanted a child and you did not carry your concubine in through the side door like an ancient lord. Instead you went out to bought a whore for one copper coin in the red light district and took back home. You may have no shame, but does it mean the public cannot spell shame? How dare you dare scream at those spiting at you on the street, saying it is your private matter? If you cannot read the road signs find a translator; A brothel is a public place!"
Those listening on the other side almost choked, talk more Ethan and Mark standing in the room with her.
“How dare you have the cheek to bargain? Passerbys would misunderstood by just hearing you speak. The world would have thought professor Mandy was selling children. Ignore the fact that the police would want to hear about this, Why are you making it sound as though you went shopping? Is it not the wives who go to the market in the family? If you are jobless, say so. Don’t go around bringing back trash to the door. Should your wife thank you? Sew Mandy a wedding dress? Would Mandy dare to wear it?” Lilac asked faster than anyone could respond and Barney, talk more professor Mandy could not take it anymore.
“You dare call me a prostitute? I am your professor!” Professor Mandy stood and scolded.
“I have been waiting for the great professor to grace us with her voice all night, a little longer and I might have borrowed a plier from the neighbours to knock ope your jaws," Lilac sneered and Eric stepped back instinctively.
"Shut up!" Mandy shouted.
"It seems you are not mute? But why should I shut up? You have already climbed a matrimonial bed and taken off your clothes, but you are trying to claim you were only checking for bed bugs when the village arrived with forks and torches?" Lilac shot out her response before the professor could spin a thought. And she was not done.
"You really know you are supposed to be a respected professor, then why not wear your scholarly robes even when checking for bed bugs on other people’s marital beds when the wife is away? Is being a mistress your second job? You took off your robes for your side hustle, how do you have the audacity to be angry just because we did not recognise you as a scholar?” Lilac seized up the pregnant woman. Lilac's rapid words, made the professor dizzy. She held her swollen tummy and staggered.
“What are you doing? Take her out of here! This is a family matter. Do you want something to happen to the baby?” Barney scolded Eric.
“My wife just said a few word, why do you make it seem as though she wants to kill your mistress,” Eric asked with a sneer. and looked the other way.
Eric knew little about lilac, but he was a fast learner. He knew better than to interfere when Lilac opened her mouth. The people who have met her words in battle are still licking their wounds, their scars still ache. It is not his fault they went out past her bed time and she was cranky. Before Barney could m react to knowing who Lilac was, Lilac spoke again.
“Of course I know it is a family matter, that is why I called the family to witness this fiasco.” Lilac turned the phone screen so that he could see the video call happening.
The moment Barney realized the entire family was watching, it was his turn to stagger. Lilac handed the phone to Mark.
“You better not pass out, your prostitute scholar is already swaying as though she would fall any moment. You'd best stay awake so nothing happens to your baby. It is past my bed time so I am rolling out a corpse to flog, don’t confuse a mortician for a doctor because of my white coat,” Lilac said and Professor Mandy was so angered, she her breath hitched and as she started hyperventilating.
This caused Barney to panic and rush for her. He was too busy with Professor Mandy to care about video call anymore. Mark Unmuted the group chat to find that they were actually silent.
To put it simply, they were speechless. They had thought they knew Lilac somewhat but they have discovered Lilac's way of speaking was creative indeed. She spoke without raising her voice, you would have thought it was a random commentary, but every word was like deadly anumition, bullets hitting targets without missing. It may anger some people, but it made them feel refreshed.
“I am going back to sleep. Professor, come with your robes when you get back to your campus, don’t cause misunderstandings from innocent passerby. A university is still a public place and a naked woman walking around is against public decency. My spit has all been used up tonight, so I implore you to wait till I recover before doing anything more scandalous than this,” Lilac threw out those last words like a last slap and walked out of their house, only to pause at the door.
“Since the Lack Family now knew, we should leave Mr Barney to consider his options,” she returned and grabbed Eric’s hand and dragged him away with her. Ethan and and Mark could obviously not stay now that Eric had left, so they said goodbye to those on the video call and left with them.
Eric looked down at the little hand holding his Lilac's small figure walking in front of him and felt itchy suddenly. He bet that she was soft as a puddle and felt an urge to wrap his arm around her.
They soon returned to the rental house next door.
“I have never seen such shamelessness, so I might have said a few words, I am sorry for interfering.” she said when they walked in. Eric looked down at the hand she had let go. He suddenly slightly empty.
