Chapter 59 Verbal flogging
Hearing her name, the pregnant woman nodded at Lilac in confusion.
“Yes?” she asked in answer and those watching the video call in their homes had another round of shock.
“Proffessor, this is your husband? I did not know you were married!” Lilac said in shock, then turned to Barney next to her and apologized.
“I am sorry, Mr James, I recognized the wrong person,” she said.
“You, what are you doing here?” Mandy seemed to recognized Lilac slightly from the altercation they had that very night.
“You recognise me, the one who came out of the taxi? Good, professor, I am also your student. I took your course in my first year,” she introduced.
“Get to it!” Mandy had a bad feeling in her tummy, so she scolded sternly.
“Ah, you recall when I arrived and you thought I was stalking you? I remember I had asked you at that moment; 'Are you a celebrity? Are you a president or mistress hiding from the legal wife?' Lilac asked and the professor went pale.
"Who knew I hit the mark and you are really a mistress? With this level of talent, I must pitch a tent and read fortunes, it seems I have been ignoring my life’s calling.” the moment her words were spoken, Barney placed the frozen Mandy behind him protectively.
“What nonsense are you saying to my wife?” he asked.
“Your wife. So you are into polygamy. Does the government know this? I don’t think they would agree. Please be clear who the first wife is, so they do not arrest the innocent," she said, standing in the doorway so they might not be able to close the door.
“What are you all still doing back there? I have already entered the house,” she glanced behind her and said.
At that moment, Barney saw his nephew, Eric walk toward’s him with a face darker than a pot’s behind. Barney felt hai knees how weak. He knew that he was done for.
“Eric,” he said and started backing away, in the process, forcing Mandy hiding behind him deeper into the house.
“What a nice house, It can’t be that you bought this for the professor, right? If you used the family’s money to buy it, it can be repossessed in court, Mr Glinn. You need to be smarter.” Lilac said.
“Eric, let us sit down and talk,” Barney was more concerned with Eric walking into the house with a cold face than the jabs Lilac threw his way.
“Fine, sit and talk. Tell me who this new wife of yours is?” Eric pointed to the seat, telling them to sit.
Barney ran his hand through his barely remaining hair and sat. When he noticed that he was the only one sitting, and professor Mandy was still standing by the corner, not daring to sit. It seemed this man, Eric was related to Barney.
Mandy did not want to interfere in this conversation. But Barney felt uncomfortable seeing her stand.
“Come and sit, you can’t stand too long,” he said and Mandy moved closer and sat beside him.
“You know your aunt and I have been trying to have children, so Mandy is doing our family a favour,” Barney said.
“What did you just say?” Eric asked, he could not believe what he was hearing.
“You can’t tell your aunt this, it will kill her. You know how she is. I will tell her after the baby is born,”
“You know how she is and still did it? You know she would not be able to take it and still did it? It seems you take my family for granted,” Eric sid in this dangerous tone that nearly scared Barney's soul out of him.
Barney was clare what kind of family his wife was from and most importantly, what kind of person Eric was. This was a nephew even he was scared of. By right now, Barney tried to stay calm and explain his way out of this, man to man.
“That is why I say you should not tell her, all this will destabilize the baby, that is why I am waiting till the baby is born. You should understand what it feels like as a man to make hard choices,” Barney said.
Lilac raised a brow. Even the fly in the room could tell Barney was referring to Eric's choice to marry her when he famously had a woman he loved. Lilac sneered at this.
“Barney Glinn,” Eric cold voice called softly, Barney felt a chill down his spine. He was not sure why, but Eric looked even more dangerous after he said those words.
“The way you bargain with me, someone would think that I am a nephew from your family, not my aunty’s flesh and blood. Why should I care about the stability of your bastard? Why should I care about some whore you are keeping outside? How is your child related to me? Tell me, what could possibly stop me from destroying you now!?" Eric asked..
“Don’t call her that! No matter what I am still your aunt’s husband!” Barney immediately defended Mandy. He suppressed his fear and continued to explain hai reaonsing, “Your aunt and I don’t have children, Mandy is already carrying this burden for the family, don’t call her a whore!”
The next second, Lilac scoffed loudly.
“It can’t be that you are going to say she is suffering for the family so she should be treated well, right? Should your wife reward her for carrying a child for the family? Maybe even open a courtyard in the backyard and raise the baby for the family like a good legitimate wife, Having you been watching too much costume dramas?” Lilac could not take it anymore.
“This is a private matter, don’t open your mouth here!” Barney scolded Lilac. Hearing him scold Lilac completely offended Eric.
“Don’t you dare raise your voice at her!”he stepped forward in warning. But the already angered Lilac was done tolerating Barney and stepped around Eric to face Barney.
