Chapter 21 I would rather die

Chapter 21 I would rather die
Eric stormed off into his office and smallest the door behind him. He usually found Lilac annoying, but she had never gotten him this angry. If he did not leave quickly, be would have strangled her. As much as he would love to, she was still useful.
He took a swing of whiskey and sank into his chair. What she had said made perfect sense.
He had looked down on her, thinking she had no bottom line to do anything all for love, but how did he come to that conclusion? He recalled her family always apologizing for spoiling her, as much as he felt they were not innocent, he believed she was really that way. But the same family who tried to frame her the day before would they really be telling the truth?
She surely was not stupid. He had come to understand that these past forty eight hours. Then why would she go that far as trying to harm his mother to force him to marry her?
"Yes, everyone gained from our marriage except Lilac." Eric muttered to himself. Unless she was not the one.
Eric paused.
"No. I saw the evidence," he said.  He had searched through for his mother and her family had insisted that she would let his mother go if he married her, so he showed up to the registry. All because b could not risk people finding out his mother was missing. It was a delicate time for them.
But luckily, it was not his mother who had been taken, but Tessa Harold. She had taken his mother's place. For that reason, he had protected the Harold family.
Eric recalled that when he had shown up to the registry, Lilac was there waiting, dressed beautifully with a shy smile. The sight of her smile irritated him.
"I do not believe at all that she was truly innocent in the abduction as she had claimed," Eric sneered. But he had to admit that what she said made sense. Was it her family who had arranged the abduction and not Lilac?
Eric's head hurt.
While he was deep in thought, Lilac was sitting quietly looking out the window of her room.
She felt like laughing at herself. She suspected her parents were involved but could not prove it. Knowing Eric, he would not let it go. In fact, the entire Black family would never let her do if they believed she tried to harm their mother.
"I am so stupid. Divorce? They are probably going to kill me when they are done," she said.
But she recalled that the Black family was at most dismissive of her. They showed disdain, but had not really harmed her. Was it because the abduction failed that they let it go?
"No! Let it go? This family would never let it go," Lilac muttered. They had use for her, and she had not found out what it was.
She needed to leave.
Lilac took out her phone and confirmed where they were then booked a helicopter to come get her. It was expensive and took a chunk of her money, but she was determined to leave.
She was glad she had not unpacked her things. She grabbed her bag and walked out the door. The chopper service were coming from the mainland to the island. Even though it was deep into eh night, they had responded and said they would arrive in about thirty minutes.
Lilac walked out the door and started making her walk to the helipad. She already knew it would be a hassle to call a driver to take her over and she did not think any of Eric's me would obamey her orders so she would probably have to walk. As such she decided it was best to start walking over.
By the time the chopper arrived, she had made her way to the helipad. She easily got on and left the island.
While on the chopper, her phone rang. She saw it was Eric and hesitated before ending the call.
When the chopper landed at a hotel, Lilac heard her phone ring again. This time, she picked it up.
"How can I help you?" She asked.
"You left the island?" Eric asked.
"Yes, or were you expecting me to stay so I go with you to meet the Harold family? And do what? Apologize for something I did not do?" Lilac asked with a sneer.
"Lilac, do not test me!" Eric warned.
"Eric, it is clear what ever the reason you stay married to me is, it is not necessary for me to be present in your life or around your family to be useful to you. Afterall, all these years, I have barely ever interacted with you and your family. I prefer it to be this way," Lilac said.
"Only I will decide that! Get back here this instant!" Eric ordered.
"Oh, so it is a matter of male pride. You hate me and want me to suffer, so you must be the one to decide how I suffer, right? That is why you insist I meet with the Harold family. Well, you can keep dreaming. I will not meet with people who hate me," Lilac said.
"You owe them!" Eric seemed to say through his teeth. His words ignored Lilac's anger.
"I owe them nothing. With all your abilities you cannot even find out who harmed your mother, nor can they find out who harmed their daughter, so I have to take blame for something I did not do? I would rather die!" Lilac said and ended the call.
She was sure Eric could easily find out where she was and bring her back, so instead of spring the night at the hotel, Lilac changed her mind and booked the nearest fight back to the US.
She immediately took a taxi to the airport and waited. After a full hour of waiting, she boardsmed the flight and arrived at JFK airport in a few hours.
She was tired and had barely slept on the flight. But as soon as she stepped out of the plane, she saw a row of men dressed in dark suits waiting for her.
The approached her quickly.
"Madam, Mr Black has ordered us to send you home," theys aid and she went pale. Home. Which home?
