Chapter 20 A stupid man
Lilac laid on that carpet for a good ten minutes. What were these images? Where they memories? She tried to recall what Eric had said. She killed someone for their marriage? Who? Then again, why did Eric marry her?
Lilac refused to believe he did it because they had been found in bed together by her parents. What a joke. Nothing happens that night. Both of them were knocked out and he was especially drugged. But unlike the movies, those aphrodisiacs did not do anything to their libido except knock them out.
Lilac sat up sharply. She wanted to know why he had married her. What was his goal? She got up and marched out of her room towards the dinning room where Eric was already seated having his meal.
"Oh, you finally come out," Eric mocked.
"Why did you marry me?" Lilac asked and Eric paused with a fork to his mouth.
"It seems you have some memory loss. Have you forgotten the dirty game your family played?" He asked.
"Dirty game? They drugged us and stuffed into one room. Nothing happened and you know it. Besides, even if it did, Are you a twentieth century priest or am I some defiled princess that honour demands you marry? Don't twist words and make that day out to be the nail that my family crucified you on!" Lilac sneered at his words.
"You speak as though you were not involved. Are you trying to remove yourself from blame?" He asked darkly.
"What blame do I need to go so far to deny? Spending a night with you? Even if it were true that something happened that night, do I need to keep denying it? I asked you a question, Eric. I don't believe you were forced into this marriage. So tell me, why did you agree to marry?" She asked, not backing down.
"Tessa Harold is still lying in a hospital bed in a coma but you want to wash yourself clean?" Eric said immediately shooting to his feet.
"What are your talking about?" Lilac asked.
"To force this marriage, you tried to have my mother taken by eastern rebels at our weakest moment but took the Harold family's daughter instead, to force my hand to register a marriage with you. And their daughter is now in a coma till this day, but you wish to wash yourself clean?" He asked through his teeth.
Lilac paused trying to comprehend what he had said. So there was really more to this. She tried to take her mother in law? But she never did such a thing. And who the hell is Tessa Harold?
"Is this Tessa from the same Harold family we are supposed to meet tomorrow?" Lilac asked, trying to sound calm.
"Are you going to claim you don't know her?" Eric asked with a sneer.
"Yes. I don't know her," Lilac said and Eric topped the table in one swift motion, sending the food to the ground. Lilac stared at him for a good minute.
"Are you in love with this Tessa girl?" Lilac asked and Eric who was about to turn away paused, turning back to face Lilac.
"What did you say?" He asked darkly. His eyes were filled with bloodlust and Lilac was sure he wanted nothing more than to tear her apart right now.
"If not, how can you, Eric Black be so easily played by other people?" She asked and stepped forward till she stood before him.
Lilac was too angry to think straight, but she wanted to clear her name. She could not believe all she went through was because of some plot. And the man she thought was very smart fell such nonsense.
"Eric, what do you think I particularly gain from being married to you? Have I gained wealth? No, your family gave me conditional shares without even paying a single dividend all these years. Have I gained fame? Many people where I work still don't know I am married to you. The entire country can pick out someone from the black family with their eyes closed even your brothers' wives. What about me? Did I gain affection? Obviously not. Why would I go so far to marry you?" Lilac asked, her face masked in a deep sneer.
Her chest heeved as her anger rose. She completely ignored the dangerous situation and stepped forward till she was looking right up at Eric.
"Through out this marriage, my family has gained something, the Harold family has gained something, even you have gained something. Or else why have you not quietly had me killed? Everyone has gained something except me. But I am the one who plotted to marry you?" Lilac asked then broke into a mad laugh.
Eric frowned slightly at her words.
"Do you think there is not enough evidence of what you did? So you think you can talk your way out of this?" Eric asked. Though her words made him uncomfortable, he recalled what he knew, what he had found out.
"To hell with the evidence. It can't be you are really stupid, right? No, maybe you first thought I did it because I love you or something, then you thought I wanted money and power and prestige and made sure I did not get a dime or recognition and then you concluded that I was stupid, that is why I am getting this outcome. But Eric Black, you may have claimed to not know my true character enough to make the mistake of thinking I am a foolish little girl, but do you really think that now?" She asked and Eric felt slightly shaken. True, he did not believe she was foolish.
"So I wo plotted such a thing, did not think you would kill me after the marriage? Or at the very least make sure I do not get money and fame if that is what I wanted? Or you thought I was settling for love because I tried to get along with you?" Lilac said with a sneer. The way he looked at him made Eric pause. She had never looked at him that way before. The Lilac he knew was quiet and always trying to please him and make the marriage work. Her eyes at this moment was full of loathing.
"It cannot be that you are one for those men, who think someone would love them enough to give up everything and gain nothing, right? I Lilac may have had a crush on you a millennium ago, but to plot kidnapping and drugging people just to occasionally have diner with you as your wife? Who the fuck do you think you are?" Lilac asked, her eyes spitting fire.
"So you hate me, now?" He asked with an indifferent raise of his brow. Looking down at her small form. She looked like a ginger cat with her claws out. He did not take it seriously.
"Good, it was about time your fantasies shattered," Eric said and turned around to walk away.
