Chapter 16 No way out
Lilac rushed away from the scene, her heart pounding in her chest.
She rushed to the upper deck to find the chopper leaving and resisted the usmrge to sure out loud. What? Was she destined to go by boat?
Her hands shook as she decided to see the boats in question. She moved around unhindered all the way to the boats getting docked. She paused by a corner to see the staff working around.
What now? If she had to leave by boat, she had to make sure she didn't enter the wrong one. But how does she find the one with the weapons on them?
"Does any of them need repairs?" Lilac heard some of the crew talking.
"Nothing so far. We will do some checks tonight."
"Why not morning?"
The family is leaving by morning.
Lilac panicked. How long would they be there? She needed to search the boats.
Frustrated, she decided she would find a cabin below and wait. She did not dare leave. She did not believe they could make repairs all night.
But before the men could start the checks, someone hurried over and stopped them.
"The captain has been informed that they have all been checked already. So there is not need to do it again," the person said.
Lilac raised a brow. Of course. Since there are illegal things on the boat, wouldn't the crew have found it during the checks? Unless someone stopped them.
Lilac immediately stepped forward into the light.
"I lost something on one of those boats. Search them all," she said and the crew paused and looked back to find who had spoken.
"Madam?" They asked.
"Since you don't need to check them, use this time to search through every part of the entire boat," she said.
"But madam, the crew..." The person who had stopped the checks stepped forward nervously.
"You should go report that they will be delayed about thirty minutes," she ordered the man. He hesitated before rushing away.
"Search quickly, so we can all get out of the cold," Lilac ordered.
"What are we trying to find?" The leader asked.
Lilac frowned at this. She tried to recall her dream. There were small flat crates taken out as the agents shouted they had found them.
"Crates. Find them. We are leaving tomorrow morning so I need them moved," she said and the crew began.
In storage, of two boats they found small crates. When Lilac heard they had found something, she almost sighed in relief before she turned stiff again. No. She could not let them look inside. She had barely escaped the wrath for eh Back family and was sure Eric would not let this matter go.
"Alright. Thank you. You can leave now," she told them and they nodded and left.
Soon my the entire docking station on deck was silent.
When there was no one around, lilac rushed forward to open the rates but stopped. She was afraid of leaving finger prints.
Her eyes spanned to the dark sea below and had an idea. The sea water would get rid of something like a finger print, right? She picked up a small crate and chucked it into the ocean below.
She did not bother opening the crates. She was not worried anything here could belong to the black family. She may have been a black ship and her husband may not tsut her with any information that involved his family, but she knew they never transported things this way. All these crates must be to frame her or someone else.
One by one se chucked then into the sea.
She had barely gone through them all when a large hand grabbed her by the neck and she yelped in sudden fear.
The hand covered her mouth and she bit down hard till they let go. Thrashing around her elbow connected with the mysterious person's ribs and their grip on her loosened. Lilac jumped away, looking back to find that she recognized this person.
"You should be in bed, Madam," he said.
This was the very person who tried to stop the checks.
"You work for Micheal," Lilac said as light form the boats hit the mancs face, exposing him to her eyes.
"I jus need to do my job," he said and Lilac scrambled to escape but he was faster. He grabbed her by the arm and threw her against the crates.
Pain tore through Lilac as her head slammed unto the crate. She struggled to stand but the man dragged her to the railings.
Lilac's eyes met the darkness of the vast sea and her heart stopped. It was as though she was back in her past life when June pushed her overboard.
"No!" She shouted, thrashing with all her strength.
"Some energy you have," the man said trying to lift her, but Lilac hooked her limbs on the railings like a needy octopus and would not let go.
Seeing this he stopped back and Lilac dashed away again. But this time she did not try into run. She jumped towards the cracked crate and pulled a gun. The man paused as the weapon pointed at him.
Lilac doubted the weapon was loaded but it did not matter. I'm his frozen steps, she noticed him retreat towards the railing and closed in.
As though he could read her thoughts, the man called her bluff.and jumped towards directly into the knife Lilac had concealed in the fabric of her clothes.
With one strong push, she pushed him backwards towards the railings. Now in pain, the man could not react as she picked up his legs and tilted him till he fell overboard into the sea.
Lilac looked down at her shaking hands and slid down to the ground. She actually survived.
Her hands bloody she heard sounds coming from afar. Quickly, she picked up the rest of the crates and started throwing them into the sea. She worked as fast as she could, throwing both the knife and the gun in too.
She turned away just as a group of crewmen were talking over. She lowered her head and grabbed tightly to her clothes, hoping they don't notice anything.
