Chapter 1

My name is Kate David, a werewolf, the daughter of the Alpha, a mistake made by fate.

My mother died birthing me, resulting in a deep resentment from my father, brother, and everyone else—except for grandma.

My grandma has been putting up with me from the moment of my birth until now.

I was forced to live the life of a pariah, not even given a chance to be in the presence of my own father, only having such luxury when I needed to be berated or whipped by him because to him I am a rebellious nuisance.

Then there is my brother, who always derived pleasure from causing me pain, making sure my years in school were bleak with the help of his sluts and playmates.

Just existing has never been an option for me. I've been forced to pass through torture, both physically and mentally, as my daily routine, but at the same time, this has made me strong, has helped me form a wall around myself.

So that's basically the summary of how I came to live in a small and comfortable house with my tough grandma. She's not actually related to me by blood, but we both share a profound devotion to each other. She has been my strength all these years, and I can't imagine life without her.

Today is supposed to be a great day. Today is the day I turn eighteen; when I'll start being able to detect my mate, my one and only true love, but I don't feel like starting this day or leaving the comfort zone that is my bedroom.

I don't get optimistic or butterflies swimming in my belly just at the thought of having a soulmate because I just can't bring myself to care or bother with such inane things.

The moon goddess has made my life difficult and different, putting serious dangers to worry about in my path, like the hardship of gaining the ability to shift at the young age of thirteen, rather than sixteen like a normal werewolf.

It was an experience I don't even want to remember, being mystified and in so much trauma. Distress a young child should never endure or go through.

Ma took it upon herself to keep reminding me I am unique, which makes me special, but if being special makes you hated and treated differently, I would rather be like everybody else, living a serene life with loving parents and siblings, making good memories, and having an adventure.

I had to keep it a secret, make everyone believe I couldn't shift yet, which led to being bullied and seen as weak and worthless.

"Kate, come down now or you'll be late for your class."

"Give me a few minutes, I am trying to write a journal here," I yell back, shutting the journal before standing up.

I love school, but I hate being around those fake werewolves who think they know you or who judge you based on nothing but rumors, repeating those lies so they spread like wildfire.

I don't have any interest in friends, not after what I went through. Friends are lying and backstabbing snakes. Once they get what they need from you, they leave you.

Stripping my clothes, I make my way towards my closest, searching for something suitable before deciding on a black dress and pairing it with a black jacket. For footwear, I pick my black boots.

Placing my outfit on the bed, I walk into the bathroom, getting under the shower, and letting the water cascade down my body, taking my stress away.

I walk out, wrapping a towel around my body, looking in the mirror, and studying my countenance, which appears gloomy.

I put my long brown hair into a bun before slipping into my undies. After getting ready, I walk downstairs to meet my grandma.

She is in her fifties but still looks to be in her twenties, one of the benefits of being a werewolf.

She is still the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, with brown hair, lovely green eyes, and a beautiful soul. She's the true definition of elegance.

Dressed in a black apron, black jeans, and a blue button-up shirt with her hair in a low ponytail, she moves gracefully around the kitchen, putting things in order. I just admire her as she moves, my role model in everything.

She turns when she feels my presence. "Finally, took you long enough to get ready. Here, have some breakfast before leaving for school or you'll surely be late for class," she urges me to take a seat before pushing a glass of water, scrambled eggs, and bacon toward me.

"Okay, Ma, thank you, you're the best," I say, taking a seat before sipping from the glass of water.

Finishing my food, I put the plate into the sink before kissing her on the cheek, then I grab my bag, leaving for another day of misery. "I am off to school," I announce, walking towards the door.

"Okay, but before I forget, we were asked to meet your dad at 5:00 tonight, so don't be late," she says walking towards me.

I am guessing this is another form of retribution, but I ask anyway. "Why?" I inquire looking at her with confusion.

"I don't know, maybe for your birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" She says, giving me a tight hug and a kiss on my forehead.

"Bye grandma," I say leaving the house.

Like I said before, I never get through a day without facing some sort of difficulty.

I should get ready to see my beloved Alpha.
