Chapter 223 Bonus Chapter
Chapter 223 Bonus Chapter
Kristen's POV
In the midst of the Alpha gathering, as discussions about the Moon's Veil unfold (A disease afflicting werewolves across different packs, causing loss of control during transformation and weakening their abilities), I catch sight of Ben Gregory for the first time in ages. His presence is a reminder of the Game of Alphas, where he betrayed Calhoun, leading to a dangerous confrontation with sharks.
As Ben's phone rings, he excuses himself from the Alphas' table. Curiosity piqued, I notice Calhoun rising from his seat and following Ben. Intrigued and sensing tension, I decide to trail after them, wondering about Calhoun's intentions.
My suspicions prove right when I witness Calhoun cornering Ben, pinning him against a wall. The boy struggles, attempting to free himself from Calhoun's formidable grip, but Calhoun's strength is
overpowering. His eyes glow with a fierce red
intensity, reflecting the lingering grudge from their past encounter.
"You thought you could get away with what you did at the Game of Alphas?" Calhoun's voice rumbles, anger seeping through each word.
Ben, visibly uneasy, stammers, "I...I didn't mean for things to go that far."
Calhoun tightens his grip, his fury palpable. "You could have cost me my life that night. Do you have any idea what I went through?"
Struggling to breathe, Ben pleads, "I was desperate. I didn't think it would escalate like that."
Calhoun, his eyes narrowing, retorts, "Desperation doesn't excuse your rash behavior. You're lucky I'm not tearing you apart right now."
Witnessing this confrontation, I stay silent.
Ben's actions were undeniably eveil, yet part of me wonders if revenge is the answer. After all, if Calhoun had been consumed by the sharks that night, Ben would have been responsible.
"You deserve every bit of this," Calhoun growls,
maintaining his hold on Ben.
Calhoun eventually releases his grip on Ben when he notices my presence, causing Ben to slump to the floor with a thud.
I let Calhoun pull me into a corner away from the commotion.
"How much did you see?" Calhoun inquires, his eyes searching mine.
"A lot," I respond with a smirk, crossing my arms. " As much as I don't feel too settled about this, Ben deserves it and more."
Calhoun's expression tightens with a mixture of lingering anger and concern. "I know it might seem harsh, but what he did during the Game of Alphas endangered me. Heck, We wouldn't have brought Elara into this world and Aiden would have been fatherless. Ben needs to understand the consequences, and finally get to deal with the fact that he's lost you for life."
I nod, acknowledging the weight of Ben's evil deeds and how he did that because he's jealous I chose Calhoun over him on countless occasions. "I get it, Calhoun. But revenge can be a slippery slope. Just... be careful not put too much attention on mere Alphas like Ben"
Calhoun's gaze softens, gratitude flickering in his eyes. "I appreciate your concern. It's just hard to let go of what he did."
"I understand," I reply, squeezing his hand reassuringly. "But let's focus on finding a solution to the Moon's Veil. We need unity now more than ever."
Calhoun agrees, pulling me into a quick hug, a brief but comforting embrace. He lets out a sweet, masculine sigh, and I feel the warmth of his gratitude.
"I don't know what I'd have done without you in my life, Kristen," he admits.
"No time for this, Calhoun. Let's get going. We have kids waiting for us at home after this meeting," I say, quick to pull away from the hug, but I still grab a hold
of his arm.
"I know, I know," Calhoun responds, allowing me to guide him along.
As we move down the hall, I catch a glimpse of Ben staring at us with evident jealousy. For a moment, I pause, unable to suppress a chuckle at the irony of the
situation.
When the meeting continues, the Alphas work together and find a solution for the Moon's Veil, a mysterious disease affecting werewolves. Ideas are shared, plans are made, and there's a sense of unity among the Alphas as they discuss ways to end this
problem.
After a day filled with challenges and successes, Calhoun and I return home. The air at home is a mix
of relief and satisfaction. We take care of the kids, making sure they're okay. Later that night, we decided to relax in a hot tub.
The warm water surrounds us, and under the
moonlight, Calhoun looks at me. There's a silent understanding and shared relief that our hard work paid off. I lean into his hug, feeling comforted by his
presence.
"Today was tough," Calhoun says, speaking softly.
I agree, running my fingers over the water's surface." But we did it. Found a way to end the Moon's Veil."
His hand finds mine, and we intertwine fingers. "We make a good team, Kristen."
I smile, meeting his gaze. "The best team."
In the quiet of the night, surrounded by gentle
sounds, our talk turns into a moment of intimacy.
Calhoun's touch is reassuring, a comfort beyond words.
"I'm proud of you," he whispers, his lips brushing
my forehead.
"And I'm proud of us," I reply, looking up at him.
In the warm tub, with the moon casting a soft glow,
the challenges we faced today and the threats to our pack seem to vanish. The world outside our home fades away at this intimate moment.
"I love you, Kristen," Calhoun declares against the
night. "I love you too, Calhoun," I respond, sealing it all
with a kiss that lingers in the steamy air.
The End.
